Chapter 2

Author: Nameless
No one had any idea that the woman resting in Jayden's arms on the viewing platform, the one relentlessly trying to kill me, was my wife.

All I could do was watch as the woman, who had embraced me that very morning and promised me the moon and the stars, expressed her love for Jayden over and over again in front of everyone.

With the hyenas’ breath inching closer to my throat, I could also see the Grim Reaper waving at me.

Just as I thought that was the end of me, Jayden’s voice echoed from the viewing platform.

“I change my mind. How about we up the ante?

“Since he’s going to die anyway, babe, why don’t we play a little game?

“It’s about guessing whether the boy has symmetrical hearts to the guy.”

Jayden’s malicious tone blared across the loudspeakers, exploding in my ears.

As Scarlett furrowed her brows, I hoped for a second that she would recall her promise to me.

For today’s surgery to separate our child's fused heart, Scarlett clung to her cross pendant and clasped her hands together, praying day and night for a miracle.

Yet, those same hands now ran along Jayden’s hair affectionately.

Her voice was lethally sweet.

“Alright. You’re the boss. Whatever makes you happy.”

Behind the soggy hood, I felt my blood run cold.

It turned out that when it came to Jayden, Scarlett really could cast aside every one of her principles.

Next, my son and I were dragged onto a cold steel operating table by thick, heavy ropes.

Jayden ripped off my hood with a sneer and spat on my face.

“Too bad she didn’t recognize you. She didn’t keep her promise to you either.”

Catching my gaze on his leather shoes, Jayden propped his foot on the operating table.

“See that? Scarlett buys two of every gift she gets you. Once you’re gone, I’ll be her one and only.

“I bet you didn’t know that she was out with me when she told you she was away on business trips.

“Remember the time your father died because there was no surgeon available? My dog fell sick, so she felt bad enough to summon all the doctors for its end-of-life care.”

Every word from his lips cut through me like a knife.

In the end, I was buried under sheer agony.

Blood gushed endlessly from the deep tear bites.

The doctor hovered his scalpel over my chest, hesitating to make the incision. He turned to Scarlett, who was approaching in large strides.

“Mrs. Poole, this is too big of a risk. A slight mistake could be—”

The cloud of doubt in Scarlett’s eyes was brushed away by Jayden’s sudden shriek.

“Babe, the guy grabbed me! What if he carried some infectious disease? Oh, no…”

As Scarlett turned to him with concern, Jayden pulled his hand back.

The faint, self-inflicted scratch marks didn’t even break Jayden’s skin. Still, Scarlett flew into a rage.

She whacked me right in the face.

“How dare you hurt Jayden? Carry on the procedure without anesthesia. I’d like to see how tough he is.”

She stared me down through the hood.

My eyes fixed on the three teeth that had been knocked out of my mouth as emptiness washed over me.

With Scarlett sinking her weight onto Jayden, the latter met my gaze smugly.

“Sorry, sir.”

The doctor put the anesthetic back onto the tray and whispered to me sympathetically, “Don’t put this on me. I’ll do my best to finish this as soon as possible to minimize your suffering.”

The moment the cold scalpel cut into me, the pain was so intense it shook my very soul.

A scream ripped from my throat. Amid my agonized cries, the necklace around her neck broke apart.

Scarlett snapped her head back to look at me.

“Why does he sound so much like Damian?”

I looked up in a struggle, my shaking hands reaching to grab the hem of Scarlett’s blouse.

Stunned, Jayden drew closer and put himself between Scarlett and me.

“I didn’t think he’d mimic Damian’s voice just to get your attention!”

“Scarlett, did you really think God would answer prayers that were never meant to come true?” With each word I spoke, Scarlett grew paler, and her shoulders slumped. She then pulled out a knife. I inched back warily. To my surprise, Scarlett handed me the blade, her eyes flushed red. “Here, take the blade. You can kill me if that makes you feel better.” Her eyes bore no fear. As I barely held onto the blade, Scarlett became sure that I could never hurt her. Not shattering her illusion, I kept giving her an attitude. “Oh, really? Why, though? Aren’t you head over heels in love with Jayden? “With me out of the way, he’ll become your husband.” Scarlett took the bait and swore up and down right in front of Jayden. “Trust me, Damian. He was nothing but a fling to me. “I’ll get rid of him now.” The brutality in her gaze made me shudder. I would have held a sliver of respect for her had she stood firmly by her affection for Jayden. However, she simply narrowed

  • No Way Home   Chapter 9

“Scarlett, it hurts!” Scarlett didn’t even look at Jayden. The second our eyes met, Scarlett took strides toward me. When she was just a step away, I squeezed out every last drop of my strength and rasped, “Don’t come any closer! You make my skin crawl!” She teared up, hurt by the look in my eyes. In the past, all she had to do was look fragile, and I would forgive her for anything at all. This time, she could bawl her eyes out for all I cared. I would not feel anything for her. She reached me and wrapped both hands around mine, holding on with desperate strength as I struggled against her.“Damian, please… I made the biggest mistake of my life. I’ve ended things with Jayden. He’s out of our lives for good. You’re the only one for me. “I know you can’t forgive me right now. I don’t blame you. Our son’s death... it’s on me.“I’ll make it up to you. Trust me. I’ve changed.” She was inconsolable. The mention of our son unleashed the rage and hatred in me. She coul

Jayden noticed that Scarlett had been swamped lately. He barely got to see her. Scarlett split her time between visiting me at the hospital and the office. The back-and-forth pushed her mind and body to the brink of exhaustion. Overjoyed, Jayden saw this as his golden opportunity. He put on Scarlett’s favorite lab coat roleplay outfit and hid inside her private lounge at the office. Scarlett would get a nosebleed when she walked right into the steamy room. Previously, all it took was this outfit for Scarlett to throw herself at him, making the bed squeak through the entire night.Feeling her hand on his shoulder, Jayden shivered with thrill as if he could already see his future as the husband of the richest woman in the city. However, Scarlett simply took a callous look at him and smacked him square in the jaw. “My husband is in a coma right now, and you think this is appropriate? Is this some kind of sick joke? “If you make an enemy of Damian, you’ve made one of me.”

  • No Way Home   Chapter 7

Unable to accept the fact that I was in a coma, Scarlett summoned all the top neurosurgeons in the world for a consultation. In between, Scarlett visited and took notes of families whose loved ones had woken up from their coma. She offered tens of millions of dollars for any information at all. Once, she put a ten-million-dollar price on my life. Now, she was willing to pay over ten times that just to wake me up.Still, no amount of money or desperate measures could change the outcome. There was nothing she could do except pray for a miracle. That day, Scarlett fell awfully silent as the doctors gave their medical opinions. Without a word, she drove to the old hillside chapel where I’d often gone and knelt before the altar before lighting a candle for our son. Instead of placing it among the candles for healing and hope, the church attendant carried it to the remembrance table, where photographs, sympathy cards, and handwritten prayers honored those who had passed away.S

It felt like a sick joke played by fate. Scarlett clutched the ring and stared at it long and hard.It took a while before her voice cracked. “This… can’t be real.” With things spiraling out of control, Jayden took her arm, but Scarlett pushed him away. As reality seemed to crash down on her, Scarlett staggered toward me. “Damian, babe… Is that really you? “This isn’t happening. You had so many chances to tell me. Why didn’t you say something?” Scarlett’s eyes were bloodshot with regret, but all I wanted to do was sneer at her. Didn’t say something? What about the hand gestures I signed? What were those repeated attempts to grab her hand then? I did everything I could to tell her that I was Damian. Yet, what did I get in return? My pleas to her were met with threats and physical attacks that knocked my teeth out. Worst of all, Scarlett’s mind wandered to the infant with his tiny body cut open. She froze, her complexion discolored. Her teeth chattered violently.

  • No Way Home   Chapter 5

I believed I might be dead. As my eyelids fell shut, all the pain just disappeared. Adrift in a haze, I thought I could finally sleep in peace. However, my soul hovered into the air on its own. Only when I stood alongside the weeping medical staff, gazing down at my own bloodstained body, did I realize I was, in fact, dead.Had the young nurse not been clutching the dead man’s hand so tightly, I would never have believed I was lying there. In less than twenty-four hours, I, who used to be obsessed with cleanliness, looked like I came from the dump. I was caked in blood and grime, reeking of stale sweat. My body was covered in cuts and bruises. The mottled scars had taken on a sickly white hue.Amid her weeping, the young nurse cleaned out the scraps of cotton in my mouth. The head nurse gave her a nudge. “It’s time to wrap it up and inform his next of kin.” The door of the operating room swung open. Scarlett was back again. She aggressively barged into the opera
