Celeste’s POV

The café was quieter than I remembered.

A soft jazz tune floated through the speakers, sunlight spilling across the wooden floor.

Officer Raymond was already there, sitting at the same corner table as last time, nursing an espresso and pretending he wasn’t waiting for us.

Ryan pulled the door open for me, his hand brushing lightly against my back as we walked in.

It wasn’t a tender gesture, it was more of a territorial one.

Raymond stood the moment he saw me.

“Ms. Sinclair.” His smile was warm, but his eyes glinted mischievously as they flicked to Ryan. “And you brought company this time.”

“Officer,” Ryan said coolly, taking a seat across from him. His jaw flexed. “Thought it’d be good to hear everything firsthand.”

I sat between them, already sensing the storm brewing under the polite smiles.

“Thank you for meeting us again,” I began, setting my bag down. “We wanted to show you something Jenny—our intern—found this morning.”

Raymond leaned forward. “Ah, the sharp young o

Vanessa’s POVI hadn’t stepped foot in Maximilian’s office in two weeks. Not since the board started tearing into the blood diamond investigation, all thanks to the act I had put on.But today was different.Today, I had something he couldn’t ignore. When I walked in, his eyes lifted slowly from the papers in front of him.His face was filled with anger. I knew I had upset him by the little act I put in front of the board, but I had to get the upper hand so Maximilian thought twice before putting the blame on me for something he overlooked.“Mr. Edwards,” I started softly, one hand instinctively pressing against my belly. “I… I know you’re busy, but I really needed to talk to you.”He didn’t say anything for a moment, just leaned back in his chair and studied me like I was a puzzle he’d already solved.“You’ve been avoiding me, Vanessa.”My throat tightened deliberately. “I thought it would be best. After… everything.”“Hm.” His tone was dry. “And now?”I lowered my gaze, pretending to

Celeste’s POVThe morning started like any other, except it didn’t.My phone hadn’t stopped vibrating since sunrise.Every ping brought another headline, another cancellation, another knot tightening in my chest.“Rosemary Atelier under investigation for design theft.”“Audit initiated—Rosemary’s reputation in question?”I didn’t know whether to throw my phone across the room or hide it under a pile of sketchbooks.“This can’t be happening,” I whispered, staring at the unread messages piling up like tiny knives.Ryan appeared beside me, his sleeves rolled up, his expression dark but composed. “It’s happening,” he said evenly, “but panicking won’t fix it.”“I’m not panicking,” I snapped before realizing how sharp my voice sounded. “I’m—”He raised a brow. “Gripping your pen like it’s a dagger?”I sighed and set it down, massaging my temples. “We’re going to lose everything, Ryan. The clients, the orders, the trust—”He crouched in front of me, his gaze steady, searching. “You built this

Ryan’s POVMy phone buzzed for the third time in five minutes, and I finally picked it up, expecting some minor work update. Instead, it was Vivian.I sighed and swiped to answer.“Hey, Viv. How are you settling in?” I asked, trying to keep my voice light after a long day of meetings with Evelyn and thinking about what the Jewelry Association might throw at us tomorrow.Vivian didn’t wait for small talk. “Ryan, it’s chaos here! Molly refuses to go to school, she won’t talk to the other kids, she’s sitting in a corner doing nothing. I’ve tried everything—bribes, threats, her favorite breakfast, even songs—and nothing is working.”I felt my stomach knot. “Molly? She’s… she’s really acting out?”Vivian’s voice cracked. “She’s miserable. She keeps saying she wants to go home. She misses you, she misses Aunt Celeste… I don’t know what to do anymore!”I rubbed my face. “Okay, okay. Let me talk to her.”“Be gentle, Ryan. She’s inconsolable right now,” Vivian warned.I took a deep breath and a

Celeste’s POVI stood in the middle of my studio, staring at the photographs spread across the worktable. The walls that once smelled of resin and lavender now felt suffocating, too quiet except for the faint hum of the heater and the soft tap of Ryan’s tools against metal.Evelyn had made Mr. Lee and his team leave not even half an hour ago, but her words still echoed in my head.“They’ll be back, Celeste. And next time, they won’t just ask questions. Watch your back.”Ryan leaned on the edge of the desk, arms folded. His face was unreadable, but the lines around his eyes had deepened.“Do you believe them?” he asked quietly.“I believe they’re looking for someone to blame.” My voice came out tighter than I intended. “And I believe we’re the perfect targets right now.”The door creaked open, and Jenny slipped in, clutching her tablet like it was a lifeline.“Ms. Sinclair,” she said, a little breathless. “You… you need to see this.”“What is it?”She hesitated, glancing at Ryan before

Vivian’s POV“Get up, Molly. Come on, sweetheart. You’ll be late for school again.”I tried to sound patient, but my voice came out sharper than I intended.Molly didn’t even stir. She curled tighter under the blanket, a little lump of stubbornness with her messy hair peeking out.“Molly,” I said again, tugging the blanket off her. “I mean it this time.”A soft whine. Then, muffled, “I don’t want to go.”I closed my eyes, inhaled. Counted to three. It didn’t help.“Molly, we’ve talked about this. You can’t just stay home every day. It’s a new school, I know, but you’ll make friends once you actually go.”“No!” She sat up suddenly, eyes already brimming with tears. “I hate it there!”Her voice cracked. For a second, it stunned me. She’d never shouted at me before.“Molly…” I started, trying to keep my tone even. “You don’t mean that.”“Yes, I do!” she insisted, fists rubbing her eyes. “I hate it here! I want to go home!”Home. The word landed like a stone in my chest.“This is home,” I
