Celeste’s POV

I stood in the middle of my studio, staring at the photographs spread across the worktable.

The walls that once smelled of resin and lavender now felt suffocating, too quiet except for the faint hum of the heater and the soft tap of Ryan’s tools against metal.

Evelyn had made Mr. Lee and his team leave not even half an hour ago, but her words still echoed in my head.

“They’ll be back, Celeste. And next time, they won’t just ask questions. Watch your back.”

Ryan leaned on the edge of the desk, arms folded.

His face was unreadable, but the lines around his eyes had deepened.

“Do you believe them?” he asked quietly.

“I believe they’re looking for someone to blame.” My voice came out tighter than I intended. “And I believe we’re the perfect targets right now.”

The door creaked open, and Jenny slipped in, clutching her tablet like it was a lifeline.

“Ms. Sinclair,” she said, a little breathless. “You… you need to see this.”

“What is it?”

She hesitated, glancing at Ryan before

Vanessa’s POVDamien slammed the bedroom door so hard the walls shuddered.I stood in the center of the room with my arms crossed, forcing myself not to flinch. If I flinched, he’d think he’d won.“You’re being ridiculous,” I said, keeping my voice clipped, cool, as if I wasn’t one breath away from snapping. “If Bonnie wants to stay with Celeste, then let her. She clearly prefers it.”His head whipped toward me, eyes blazing. “She’s my daughter.”“And?” I arched a brow. “She ran away, Damien. She chose Celeste. Maybe that tells you something.”“That tells me she’s hurt,” he shot back. “And that she needs me. I don’t care where she is, I need to see her. I need to see my daughter’s little face.”His voice cracked on the last word.Pathetic.But I didn’t say that. Not when he looked like a kicked dog, humiliated, furious, grieving all at once.Bonnie had always been his soft spot, the one blind angle where logic died. He couldn’t see how much easier everything would be if he just… let he

Celeste’s POVGrace’s building felt colder tonight than it ever had before.Maybe it was just me.Or maybe it was what waited behind the door, the aftermath of a truth so brutal it could split a person open. The elevator ride felt endless, each floor dinging like a warning bell.By the time I reached her apartment, I didn’t even have to knock. The door was already cracked open, a light spilling weakly into the hallway.“Grace?” I called softly as I stepped inside. The silence that answered me felt heavy, trembling at the edges. Then I saw her, curled on the living room floor, knees pulled to her chest, eyes swollen red from crying. She looked smaller than I’d ever seen her. Not the fierce, impulsive Grace who could storm into a boardroom and turn executives into statues. Not the woman who laughed too loudly, loved too quickly, and threw her whole heart into people who didn’t deserve it.Just a girl who’d been betrayed again. And this time, it was by the man she’d trusted with her child

Celeste’s POVI never thought the quiet hum of Rosemary Atelier could feel so suffocating at night, but as I stood beside Ryan in the dim glow of the task lamps, waiting for his tech guy to finish setting up, it felt like the whole building was holding its breath.Maybe I was too.“Give me ten minutes,” the man said, already hunched over the main console. “If there’s anything the system didn’t overwrite, I’ll find it.”I nodded and folded my arms, more to keep myself together than to keep warmIt had already been a brutal day, trying to keep up a calm, normal face for Bonnie while my insides twisted like vines, but this was the part of the night that made everything feel heavier.Because if the footage proved what we suspected, then we were about to break Grace’s heart in a way she didn’t deserve.Ryan stood a little behind me, arms crossed, jaw tight, watching the tech guy work like he wanted to personally throttle the computer into confessing. He always carried his anger with discipl

Ryan’s POVThe message from my informant comes just past midnight.A single buzz on my phone. Then another. Then the file transfer notification, the kind that only means one thing:He found something.I step out onto the balcony so I don’t wake Celeste. The night wind brushes across my face, cool and sharp enough to slice straight through the exhaustion of the day.A minute later, the files finish downloading.Photos. Surveillance clips. Receipts. And then, one image that punches the air right out of my lungs.Gideon.Sitting in a dimly lit lounge, velvet draped behind him, champagne glass in one hand. And Vanessa Abrams, leaning in so close her lips practically touch his ear, her smile the exact brand of poisonous sweetness I’ve seen a hundred times. My jaw tightens. Not surprise. Not even disgust.Just confirmation.I scroll through the rest, bank transfers, voice snippets, screenshots of her texts. Then the final file:Andre Cox – Avalon Club EscortGideon’s real face stares back at

Celeste’s POVBy the third morning, Bonnie’s fever holds steady. She’s still weak, still clinging to Molly’s hand as if it’s the only safe thing in the world, but she’s stable. And that, for now, is enough.I sit on the edge of the couch where she’s curled under a blanket. Her lashes are damp from sleep, her breathing shallow but even.I brush her hair back one last time and kiss her forehead.“Mom,” I call softly toward the kitchen. “Could you stay with her for a few hours? I need to go into the Atelier.”My mother turns, wearing her apron and that look, half concern, half gentle scolding.“Of course I’ll stay. You go. But don’t push yourself, Celeste. You’re stretched thin.”“I know,” I whisper, though I’m not sure I believe it. “Thank you.”She squeezes my arm, and somehow it steadies me more than I’d like to admit. At Rosemary, the air is humming. The moment I step off the elevator, I see Rachel bent over a tray of stones, loupe pressed to her eye, eyebrows drawn in concentration.

  • No Way to Win Me Back   Chapter Three Hundred and Seventy-Four

Celeste’s POVFor the first twelve hours, I did not leave Bonnie’s side. Her fever spiked, dipped, and threatened to rise again. She drifted in and out of sleep, small whimpers escaped her throat whenever the pain rolled through her. And every time she winced, something sharp pulled inside me, an old wound, buried deeper than I wanted to admit.I knew this pain. The ache of being a child who believed she was too difficult to love. And that was the part that was hardest to look at.By morning, when she finally slept deeply, her little fist still clutching the corner of Molly’s lavender blanket, I stepped out of the room and pressed my forehead to the hallway wall. I breathed. Slowly. Carefully. The way I used to teach myself when everything in my life was falling apart. She was safe. She was here. But the fear of what could have happened kept echoing behind my ribs.I called Rachel and told her I would not be coming in for the next few days. She did not ask why, her voice went soft, alm
