Chapter 6

Author: Inky Tea
Emily's face darkened.

Graham stepped over to the table, looking for the broken photo frame, but it was gone.

He froze, then looked straight at her. "Where's the photo frame that was here?"

She frowned. "I threw it out."

His voice suddenly shot up. "You threw it out?"

"Yeah, it was broken anyway. And really, why keep a picture of you and your housekeeper? What good is that?"

Graham clenched his fists. "Where did you throw it?"

"I tossed it in a trash bag. The garbage collectors came by a little while ago, and I handed it off to them."

His phone slipped from his hand and hit the floor with a sharp crack.

Emily turned to him in surprise, only to see his eyes burning with anger.

"Graham, what's wrong with you?"

He didn't answer. He turned toward the door, ready to go out again.

Emily rushed forward and grabbed his arm.

"Where are you going now? What's going on with you today? You've been acting like a completely different person."

Graham tried to pull away, but she only held

"Leon treats Mommy really well. He always answers her calls and remembers that I don't like peach cake. If I could choose, I'd rather Leon be my father. He loves Mommy, and he loves me too!"Naomi's voice cracked into sobs.Graham's lips trembled, and for a moment, he stood there completely speechless.I gently wiped away her tears and turned to him. "If there's nothing else, then we'll be going."I took Naomi's hand and walked away quickly. Graham followed a few paces behind, refusing to let us go.Finally, I couldn't take it anymore and turned around to snap at him. "What are you doing, Graham? Why are you still trying to interfere in our lives?"He froze at my words, his eyes clouding with regret. "Nora, come home with me."I let out a sarcastic laugh. "Do you really think I'm your housekeeper? That you can just come and go as you please?""I..."Just then, Leon pulled up beside me in his car, rolling down the window. "Ms. Fields, can I take you and Naomi home today?""Yes

I had memorized every part of Graham's daily routine. I even tracked his meal times down to the minute, making sure everything ran like clockwork. Some days, I was so busy I didn't even have time for lunch, rushing back home after work just to prepare his dinner. But Graham's mind was always elsewhere, focused only on work or Emily. He never once acknowledged the effort I poured into him. After chatting a little more with Rachel, I ended the call....Inside the conference room, Graham slammed a report on the table. "Can't HR find a decent secretary? The one you hired can't even sort files properly."The HR team exchanged awkward looks. Finally, the department lead, Julia Marks, couldn't hold back anymore and snapped, "Mr. Ashford, she has no trouble sorting files. You just never gave her clear instructions!"Graham's expression darkened, but the HR lead didn't flinch. She continued, "This is the best secretary we've been able to recruit. If she's not good enough for you, there

Graham's brows pulled into a frown. "She resigned and left Eastmoore? Where could she possibly go?"We had been together for five years, and our daughter was already four. He didn't believe for a second that I would just pack up and run.Besides, he didn't have the time to chase me back.On the other end of the line, Adeline hesitated before saying, "Ms. Fields didn't leave alone. She took her daughter with her."The moment those words hit Graham's ears, a sinking feeling settled in his chest. He opened his mouth to ask more, but a pair of slender arms slipped around him from behind.Emily leaned in on her tiptoes, her breath warm against his ear. "Graham, stay with me tonight, will you?"His entire body stiffened."Mr. Ashford, are you still there?" Adeline's voice came through the phone again. "Mr. Ashford, hello?"Graham forced his voice into calm. "That's all. Thanks."With that, he ended the call.Emily gave a coy smile. "Graham, were you serious when you said you'd marr

By noon the next day, Graham really came home with a cake.Naomi's eyes lit up. She threw herself into his arms with a bright smile. "Daddy, you really got me a cake!"Graham took her hand and said warmly, "Come on, let's go make a wish."The scene in front of me was one I hadn't seen in a long time.Seeing Naomi smile so happily, I couldn't help but smile too.As long as my daughter was happy, so was I.Naomi climbed onto the chair, bracing her little hands on the edge of the table, bouncing with excitement. "Mommy, hurry! Help me open the box!""Alright." I untied the ribbon and opened the box. The peach cake sat there, perfectly decorated. But Naomi's smile faded, and so did mine.Graham didn't notice. He grabbed the plastic knife and cut a piece, placing it on a plate. "Happy birthday, Naomi."Naomi didn't reach for it. She looked at him disappointedly.Graham blinked. "You don't like it?"I clenched the ribbon in my hand, trying to hold back my anger. "Graham, she can'

  • No to Marriage? Goodbye, Then   Chapter 3

"Graham," Emily said through sobs, "if I divorced Dean, would you marry me?"Graham looked at her for a long second. "If that's what you want, I'd marry you anytime."His words exploded in my mind like a thunderclap.Years ago, when I first found out I was pregnant, I had hopefully asked him, "Should we get married? It'll make things easier for the baby, especially with paperwork."He had frowned and told me, "Nora, marriage feels like a burden to me. The baby can have your name or mine, it doesn't matter. I don't need a marriage license to give you both a good life."He gave me everything I asked for for five years, except commitment.I had truly believed he didn't believe in marriage. But now, I knew the truth. It wasn't about marriage. It was about who he wanted to marry.I let out a bitter laugh, turned to head back inside, and walked downstairs with the resignation letter in my hands.Dean's car had already pulled away from the curb.Emily was still crying in Graham's arm
