Chapter 3

Author: Susan Mayer
Amelia flinched and immediately retorted.

"I didn't!"

Susan's son, Leo, added, "Uncle Oliver, but there's no one else here. It must be her."

My daughter retorted, "It wasn't me! I swear..."

"But you looked poor and suspicious," Leo said angrily, rushing over.

He shoved Amelia, throwing her onto the ground. Oliver didn't stop him, just stood there, looking at Amelia with pure disappointment. "I knew you came here with bad intentions!

First, your mother incited you to frame Susan, and now you dare steal? How could I have a daughter like you? Tell me, where did you hide the bracelet? Bring it out now!"

My mind went blank.

I rushed to stand in front of Oliver, tears streaming down my face as I said,

"How dare you hit my child! Did you really believe every word Susan said?" But no one saw my anger.

My daughter looked at her dad in disbelief and sobbed uncontrollably.

"I didn't steal her bracelet! Mom never lets me do bad things. She frames me on purpose.

She's not as good as you think! She's been bullying me and Mom. You're being fooled by her!"

My daughter's sobs didn't convince Oliver, and they only enraged him more.

Oliver asked aggressively, "Tell it! Where's the bracelet?"

My daughter saw that she was getting no support from her father, so she just wanted to come home early to wake me up herself.

When she was ready to run home, Oliver grabbed her and shook her shoulders angrily. My daughter struggled wildly from her father, but she couldn't, like a helpless cub.

"Didn't you hear what I just asked you? Where did you hide the bracelet?"

"I don't know. I really didn't steal it! I need to go home and wake Mom up."

Oliver only pressed harder, leaving purple bruises on my daughter's shoulders.

My daughter wailed in pain, and my heart ached as if it had been broken.

I kept pulling Oliver away, but I couldn't. I was just a useless spirit.

Susan watched leisurely, her eyes dripping with disdain.

When my daughter was pushed onto the ground by Oliver, she stopped struggling.

Hate filled her eyes as she looked at Oliver.

Finding the bracelet in my daughter's pocket, Oliver froze.

Then he saw my daughter's hateful stare and lost all reason.

He got furious, dragged her body, and threw her into the snow.

"If you won't behave well, stay in the snow and sober up." Then Oliver added:

"Go reflect on your actions and apologize to me, and then you'll be allowed to leave."

Oliver even asked the butler to keep an eye on my daughter.

Biting cold surged through me.

I knew Amelia would obey for my sake, but I didn't want this obedience.

My daughter stayed put in the snow. Her tiny figure stood in the freezing night, letting snow cover her bit by bit.

Inside the warm and grand mansion, Susan held her daughter and pretended to ask:

"Oliver, Amelia is still a little child. Isn't this too cruel?"

Oliver stared out the window, frustrated:

"Cruel? She was the one who did wrong. If she can't take this lesson, how can she be a leader to take over my business?

Susan's smile faded, jealousy burning in her eyes.

She hadn't expected Oliver to still consider my daughter as heir.

But then she looked outside the window and relaxed.

What did it matter? The little girl was not a match for her at all.

Susan's smile grew sweeter as she smoothly changed the subject.

Inside: warmth and happiness.

Outside: howling snow and sadness.

My daughter finally collapsed in the snow. Before losing consciousness, she mumbled:

"Dad, I haven't stolen her bracelet. Why don't you believe me? Mom..."

After a while, the old butler rushed into Oliver’s study nervously.

"Mr. Johnson, it's been three hours... Miss Amelia has fainted in the snow..."

"What?" Oliver's face paled, and he stood up at once. Just then, his phone rang.

"Hello? Is this Mr. Johnson? We received a report. A body was found in a rental department under your name."

"Tell me, how much did she pay you? How much?"Mr. Smith shook his head. "Believe it or not, this is the truth. Mr. Johnson, please come to the police station with me."After saying that, he pulled handcuffs from his pocket, ready to arrest Oliver.Oliver still didn't believe it and struggled fiercely. But the butler, as if he'd thought of something, turned deathly pale in an instant."Could it be...?"Oliver froze, his eyes raw and red, as if the veins were about to rupture."Butler, do you know something?"Mr. Smith immediately turned to the butler and interrogated:"What do you know?"The butler then stammered out everything he knew."On the day of the kidney donation, Susan went to see the doctor secretly.I was just passing by and overheard them.""I heard Susan say it was Mr. Johnson's order, and that she'd give the doctor 10 million after it was done. I always thought they were talking about forcing Charlotte to donate the kidney, but now I think maybe...""Susan!"Oliver spat ou

But soon I was shocked again by Susan's actions.Seeing that Leo didn't dare to speak, Susan's anger flared up. She frantically pummeled Leo's back, and Leo stumbled and fell to the ground. As she got tired, she kept complaining bitterly in a suppressed voice:"Brat, it's all your fault! All your fault!I've already driven Charlotte and that little bitch out for days, and you still haven't made that fool Oliver completely like and approve of you.Aren't you the one who always plays the pitiful, innocent card to get what you want? Why are you failing now?If you'd really made Oliver forget that little bitch Amelia, I wouldn't have to be so scared. It's all your fault, all your fault!"Every time Susan said a word, she pinched Leo hard.It was like she wanted to pour all her anger onto Leo.And Leo, as if used to it, didn't dare to resist at all.He just bowed his head numbly, not even daring to make a sound when crying. My daughter couldn't stand it anymore and whispered to me:"Mommy

The butler hurried in. "Sir, Mr. Smith from the City Police Department is here. Hurry, give me Amelia's body. We must not let them find out that Amelia's death has anything to do with you.He wants to ask you some questions about Ms Charlotte."Oliver lowered his head, looking at my daughter in his arms, who seemed to be asleep. An absolute, crushing stillness that screamed louder than any cry could. His arms were locked around my daughter. He was now hollowed out by grief so deep it felt like it would swallow the world whole. But reason told him that hiding the cause of Amelia's death was the right thing to do.Susan also hurried to persuade him:"Oliver, the butler is right. Even though you didn't mean it, things have already happened. We should hide Amelia's body as soon as possible."Oliver stared blankly at Susan, his voice hoarse:"Susan, I killed Amelia and then hid her. She'll never forgive me."A flash of impatience crossed Susan's eyes, but she quickly forced a gentle l

He took off his coat and wrapped it tightly around the stiff, motionless figure on the ground.Tears streamed down in big drops, falling onto Amelia's purple-tinged face, making it look even more terrifying."Mommy, is Daddy crying for me?"My daughter's soul huddled in my arms, asking in a small voice."Mommy, does Daddy regret it?"She blinked, her blue eyes reflecting only my face.I smiled and brushed the snowflakes off her."Amelia, your daddy is a fool."My daughter was surprised because I'm usually gentle and kind, and I even rarely call someone a "fool".But she understood my grievance. She just held me close and gazed quietly at her father."Mommy, I want to be with you

Oliver slammed his fist onto the table, causing a deafening crash. He was in a panic and gripped his phone tightly and snapped:"Who died? Who's that speaking? This joke has gone way too far!"The person on the other end seemed familiar with such situations; upon hearing Oliver's questioning, his tone still remained calm."Mr. Johnson, please calm down. I am Mr. Smith from the City Police Department. An hour ago, we received a report about an unknown odor coming from a rental department.
