Author: Goya
Enzo's POV

The video opened with Corinne's voice, light and easy. "Enzo, by the time you see this, I've already started a better life. One without you."

"This is my gift to you."

"You think your little Elara is really so sweet and innocent?"

The moment those words landed, Elara's dark, twisted face appeared dead center on the screen.

Enzo recognized the background instantly—Corinne's office.

It was the surveillance footage from her office.

The camera had been tucked into a corner, hidden so well

Enzo's POVEnzo couldn't accept it. Eyes red-rimmed, he stopped passing Palermo employees and asked, "Is Corinne really Vincent's fiancée?"They all nodded, baffled by the question. "Corinne and Mr. Palermo are great together. They've only been together two years, but they already live like an old married couple.""Mr. Palermo pursued her. He treasures this relationship. They're going to grow old together."Treasures.The word pierced Enzo's heart like a blade. He staggered back a few steps, dazed. He was the one who'd trampled Corinne's sincerity. Now he wanted to treasure her too—but her heart had long since stopped being his.Enzo slammed his fist into a tree trunk. The pain ricocheted through his body. He couldn't help but crouch down, curl into himself, and choke out, "I..."Enzo waited until night fell.Only when the Palermo building closed and the security guards were getting ready to leave did Enzo realize something was wrong. He walked over slowly. "Excuse me—has everyone insi

Clang.Enzo stood and knocked over the metal chair."How is that possible?" His jaw was clenched, his voice low and heavy. "Are you two playing me for a fool? Teaming up to lie to my face?!""Is that even necessary? Mr. Moretti seems to think far too highly of himself."Vincent stood too. He was a little taller than Enzo, and he looked down at him, his voice calm. "We're getting married in a month.""But Mr. Moretti won't be welcome at the wedding.""And, Mr. Moretti, I have to remind you—even setting aside the fact that she's my fiancée, Corinne is an outstanding employee of the Palermo family. She is not a commodity for you to trade."The two men faced off. Enzo could tell Vincent's possessiveness over me wasn't an act.In an instant, jealousy burned his eyes red. He was nearly roaring. "She's my fiancée! I never agreed to cancel the engagement! The one she's supposed to marry is me! Me!"Vincent smiled faintly, but there was something dark in his eyes—and beneath it, a deep ache on

He loved me.Never having told me to my face.Once the confession was out, everything after it came easier.Enzo spoke fast, veins bulging at his temples from the rush, his voice thick with a sob he couldn't hold back. "I—I looked for you for so long. I thought I'd never see you again...""I love you. Only after you left did I realize how deep it went.""I did so many things to hurt you. Not a moment goes by that I don't think about you. Without you, these two years, I've been a walking corpse."Then he stepped forward and grabbed my hand, lacing his fingers tight through mine. "Corinne, come back with me. We'll get married. I'll treat you well for the rest of my life. Let's just live our lives together..."Smack!Before he could finish, I struck his hand away, hard. My voice was ice. "Enzo. Have some self-respect.""I have nothing to do with you anymore. This is the Palermo family. We're strangers."My calm expression had flickered—just barely—when he said I love you. But only for an

Two years later."Corinne, the meeting's in an hour."I nodded at my assistant, took the documents I knew by heart, and pushed the door open.Vincent Palermo was seated at the head of the table. When our eyes met, he curved a smile, silently asking if I was ready.I nodded back, took the seat beside Vincent, and looked down at the papers in my hand. The cover read, in bold: Moretti Family Corporation Acquisition.A second later, the assistant knocked. "Mr. Moretti is here."Vincent and I rose together. My gaze landed on Enzo as he walked in—calm, unrippled. "Mr. Moretti. Good morning. I'm Corinne Worth, manager at the Palermo family company. I'll be handling this acquisition."Two years apart, and Enzo looked like a stranger.I found the man in front of me barely matched the figure in my memory. This Enzo was a wreck. These past two years, he'd had no heart for the business. The group had bled out, piece by piece, until it was reduced to being acquired. This Enzo had none of the drive

Enzo's POVIt was the seventh day the Moretti family had stayed silent on the scandal. The seventh day their stock had hit the floor, limit down, over and over. And the seventh day since Corinne'd disappeared without a trace.Inside the company, the shareholders were pacing in circles, hounding the assistant. "Has Mr. Moretti come up with anything?""Just hold a press conference. Even one statement, and PR can keep working the narrative. We can still salvage this."But if it was like the past seven days—if Enzo kept shutting himself in his bedroom, drinking himself stupid, refusing to engage—Then the Moretti family could just sit back and wait to die.The assistant let out a long sigh, shouldered the burden, and knocked on Enzo's door.A slurred "Come in" came from inside. The assistant pushed the door open and nearly coughed from the wall of alcohol and cigarette smoke that hit him.Through the haze, Enzo was slumped on the floor, a bottle in his hand. His eyes were unfocused. "Did y

His jaw tightened. He looked at Elara, whose face had gone bone-white, and the unease and dread in his chest hit their peak. Then he heard it—"I—I think I might be pregnant! Elara, please, you have to tell Enzo!""...Guards, keep an eye on her. Don't let her leave early. And not a word about what happened here to Mr. Moretti."He couldn't believe what he was seeing and hearing. He saw the blood pooling beneath Corinne's feet—and
