Chapter 1

Author: Tranquil Phoenix
Oscar Miller was Shirley Bishop's personal bodyguard, but when she got attacked on her birthday, he shielded her foster sister, Myra Bishop, with his own body.

Shirley got cut three times—once across her face, once on her arm, and a third that stabbed her lower abdomen, leaving her unable to have children ever again.

But even after all that, she still wanted to marry him.

Later, Oscar did marry her—but he never touched her, not even once, all the way until his death.

At his funeral, the insurance company showed up.

"Mr. Miller purchased a large insurance policy before his death. The beneficiary is Ms. Myra Bishop."

Shirley's eyes went red with shock. "What?"

The agent explained, "When Mr. Miller bought the policy, he said that Ms. Myra had no one in the world to care for her. He wanted to make sure she'd be taken care of if something happened to him."

That was when Shirley realized that after all these years, Oscar had never gotten over Myra.

Shirley couldn't remember much from that funeral. But when she got home, she opened the door to Oscar's secret study and found the walls plastered with Myra's photos.

In the corners, dolls made in her image were lined up, each more lifelike than the last.

So, these were what he had used to relieve himself when he abstained from sleeping with her.

And buried in a corner, Shirley found his bank statements. Every single transfer over the years was to Myra.

Then there were the letters—piles of love letters he had written her over time, stacked so high that they were shocking.

Looking at it all, Shirley remembered the words he whispered before dying.

"If there's another life, don't choose me. The person I've always wanted to marry is Ms. Myra."

"Shirley, have you decided who you want?"

Daniel Bishop's familiar voice sounded from above. Shirley lifted her head in surprise.

"The four boys you grew up with are now capable young men, and it's time for you to get married. Tell me who you choose."

Looking at her father's still-young face and her own reflection in the mirror, Shirley realized she had been reborn. She was back on the day she had to announce which one would become her future husband.

The Bishops were the most powerful family in Anteford, but they had only one daughter, Shirley. To make sure she would have a suitable husband in the future, Daniel had chosen the boys from four other powerful families—the Tuckers, Fosters, Millers, and Watsons—to grow up alongside her.

These four boys had grown up with her as her personal bodyguards. They weren't just strong—they were smart and handsome, too.

Oscar was her top choice. He was calm and stunningly good-looking; he was always straight-backed when he walked and steady when speaking, and he rarely looked her in the eyes.

His physique alone made him stand out, with his broad shoulders, narrow waist, and a presence that drew attention.

On her 18th birthday, he wore a white suit and played the piano for her. She'd fallen for him right then. From that day on, she always requested that he protect her wherever she went.

But today, when Daniel asked if she had chosen her future husband, she stayed silent.

"What's wrong? You've always preferred Oscar. Why are you taking so long today?" Daniel gently stroked her hair. "Just pick him. The Millers aren't the best among the four families, but as long as he agrees that your first child takes our last name, I'll approve the marriage."

Child?

Shirley bitterly smiled. In her last life, Oscar hadn't even touched her—not a single time. He had only ever loved Myra.

"No, I'm chosing someone else."

Daniel's shock was clear. "Someone else? You don't have feelings for Oscar?"

"No, not anymore. And frankly, never again."

The boys' parents had already gathered in the hall, waiting. When Shirley entered, Oscar immediately pulled her aside.

"I know you've chosen me today," he said, "but my heart already belongs to someone else. I hope you'll reconsider."

Shirley had heard this before in her previous life. Back then, she had been too confident, believing she could win his heart, so she had gone ahead anyway.

This time, she wouldn't.

"It's not your place to interfere with who I choose. If you really don't want to marry me, take your parents and leave now. Never show your face here again."

Hearing how firm her tone was, Oscar froze.

She had never spoken to him like this before. Usually, she'd brush against him or tease him with words. But today, it was different.

"If you have nothing to say, I'll head inside. I hope you'll be happy with my choice this time."

Seeing him stay silent, Shirley walked into the living room without looking back.

In an instant, five men appeared out of nowhere, pouring gasoline all over the floor.Five bottles of gasoline were poured, nearly covering the entire orphanage. The sharp smell made Shirley's stomach turn."Wh-what are you doing, Myra?""Can't you see?" Shirley shouted.Myra flicked the lighter, ready to throw it down, but a yell came from behind her.Oscar and Jamie arrived almost at the same time. When Jamie saw the flame dancing in Myra's hand, his heart skipped a beat."Myra, what are you doing? Let her go!""You're all here, huh?" Myra laughed. "Good. Let's see if you'd risk your lives for Shirley!"She released her grip on the lighter."No!"The gasoline ignited instantly. Flames swallowed the orphanage, surrounding Shirley in a wall of fire."Cough! Night had fallen when the servant brought in Shirley's herbal soup.Shirley frowned and said with a pout, "I don't want to drink it tonight. Can I skip it just this once?""But Mr. Bishop ordered us to make sure you take it every night. You know your health isn't great; you should drink it."Shirley sighed, pinched her nose, and reluctantly drank it.Afterwards, the servant placed a candy in her hand."Mr. Watson told me to give this to you."Seeing the candy, Shirley felt the bitterness in her mouth ease a little. "Where is he?" she asked."Seems like something came up outside. He went to check it out." The servant closed the door behind her. "Get some rest."No sooner had the door shut than Shirley began to feel dizzy. She shook her head, but the room blurred, and the next second, she lost consciousness. When she woke up again, she found her hands and feet bound, and a black cloth covered her eyes, leaving her completely in the dark. She struggled a few times, but her wrist

Not long after Shirley and Jamie left, Myra came rushing over. She didn't even give a nod or greet Shirley even though they crossed paths. She stormed straight into the ER.Shirley didn't pay her any mind and walked away with Jamie."Shirley, Shirley…"Myra stepped inside, just as Oscar was calling Shirley's name. She was furious, but she held herself back."Hey, Oscar.""What are you doing here? I don't want to see you!" The moment Oscar saw her, his expression changed completely. "I need to see Shirley! Is she outside? Why won't she come in?""Heh, who do you think you are? Wake up! Shirley already left with Jamie! Even if you were dying, she wouldn't give you a second glance!""No, that's impossible! I have to see her!"He ripped off the IV from his arm, threw back the covers, and tried to get out of bed.But when he rushed into the hall, it was empty. Seeing the man nearly beaten to death, the manager finally stepped out cautiously."M-Mr. Miller, please let us handle this. We'll make sure you're satisfied."If Oscar kept hitting him like that, the guy would probably be paralyzed, if not dead."If anyone can just waltz into Cloudcrest Lounge, then you might as well shut the place down." Oscar stepped off the man, kicking him hard. "Now get lost."The two guys didn't hesitate. They scrambled away as fast as they could. The manager noticed blood still running down the back of Oscar's head and asked anxiously, "Do you need a ride to the hospital? You're hurt pretty badly."Before he could finish, Oscar collapsed onto the floor."Oscar!" Shirley jumped, panic flooding her chest. "Call an ambulance! Now!"Oscar was rushed into the ER. Shirley sat on a hallway bench with a frown, her heart pounding. It wasn't long before a deep voice cut through the tense quiet."Shirley!"She looked up and, seeing Jamie, ran straight into his

Everyone froze, and the private room went completely silent.Oscar slowly lifted his eyes to look at the woman in front of him, only to see a burning hatred blazing in her gaze."Wake up already! I'll say this one last time—I don't love you, and I don't have any feelings for you! I love my husband, Jamie! He's the only one for me, now and forever! If you keep harassing me, we won't even be friends!"George and Theo exchanged a glance. They'd never seen Shirley this furious before."Have I made myself clear?" Shirley asked, her voice sharp."I don't believe you." Oscar shook his head, unwilling to accept it.Shirley wiped her hands and tossed the tissue into the trash."I don't care whether you believe me. I won't stop you if you wanna keep being delusional. But from now on, consider us strangers!" she spat before walking away.Oscar tore himself from Theo and George's grip. "Don't go!"Shirley ignored him, pressed the elevator button, and walked in.By the time Oscar reached

Jamie was away on a business trip, and Shirley was just sitting around, wondering how to pass the time, when George called."Yo, Shirley. Are you free tonight?""Why are you asking?""Tonight's my birthday, and I'm holding a party at Cloudcrest Lounge! Are you gonna show up, for old times' sake?"From the background came Theo's teasing voice. "Now that you're married and all, you probably won't hang out with us anymore, huh?"Shirley actually got along pretty well with these two. They were a bit immature compared to Oscar and Jamie, but she considered them her close friends. In her past life, when the Bishops faced some setbacks, these two were always the ones who helped her again and again."Of course, I'm going to George's birthday party! Cloudcrest Lounge, right? I'll dress up and be there."Cloudcrest Lounge was the favorite hangout for Anteford's rich crowd—a place for fun and relaxation, all in one. The first two floors were for entertainment, the third and fourth for pri
