Chapter 6

Author: Cyathia
[Kaelen's POV]

Liana had just stabilized when my mother's chronic condition suddenly flared up.

A storm raged outside that night, the humidity aggravating the old silver burns in her lungs.

Her breathing became ragged and shallow.

Her face turned a terrifying shade of purple.

She grabbed my hand, gasping for air, her nails digging into my flesh.

"Son... save me... I can't breathe..."

In the other room, Liana clutched her chest, leaning weakly against the headboard and weeping.

"Kaelen, I feel te

Although dangerous, I had found dignity and freedom here.I had taken root in this war-torn land and found my worth. That so-called home was nothing more than a cage I would never return to.Seeing my resolve, Kaelen panicked completely. He rushed forward and grabbed my wrist, his grip so tight it made me frown."Elara, you're still angry, aren't you? I know I was a jerk, but I've changed!""Liana's body has collapsed. The healers say she has a few days left at most.""As long as you come back with me, you will be the only Luna of the Silvermoon Pack. I'll send that child away!""Didn't you say you would be with me forever? Have you forgotten our vows?"I shook off his hand with force, my eyes cold as ice."Vows? You were the one who broke them first, Kaelen.""Since you chose betrayal, don't expect me to wait for you to look back.""I don't eat leftovers, and I certainly won't go back to clean up your mess. Give up."Kaelen opened his mouth to speak, but I cut him off."Please leave.

[Elara's POV]The shuttle broke through the clouds, leaving the Silvermoon territory far behind.I leaned against the window, watching the forests and buildings shrink into nothingness. My heart was eerily calm. From this moment on, I was no longer the Luna of Silvermoon.I belonged to no pack. After a dozen hours of flight, I landed on the border of the Forgotten Continent. This was a lawless zone, filled with rogues, mercenaries, and dangerous creatures.Unlike the safe life in the pack, the air here smelled of blood and gunpowder. The leader of the neutral medical team met me.He handed me a crude bulletproof vest."Here, survival is more important than anything. Even if you're a healer, no one will show mercy."His words struck a chord in me.I suddenly remembered the years I spent mated to Kaelen.I had treated him like my god.I had valued him more than my own life. But that boy who once saw only me had long died in the vortex of power and desire. For the rest of my life, I would

Did the shock make the wolfsbane poison spread?"Two women down at the same time.I was pacing like a trapped wolf.My father was furious, ordering the warriors to drag every healer in the pack to the main house.Just as my mother was about to go into shock and was being wheeled into the emergency room, I ran into an elderly man in a long robe in the hallway. It was the legendary Master Herbalist, known across the entire continent.I didn't care about my Alpha dignity.I dropped to m

On the back was a note."You already have your pup. Mine don't need a father. We will never meet again."Kaelen's hand trembled violently, the thin piece of paper feeling as heavy as a mountain."No... this is impossible..."His eyes blazed red as he looked wildly at the door. "Elara! Get out here! This isn't real!"The courier just shrugged. "Ms. Elara boarded the shuttle to the Forgotten Continent right after sending this package. By now, she should be well out of the pack's airspace."With that, he left.[Kaelen's POV]I stared at the pregnancy report in my hand until my vision blurred. The word "Twins" seemed to mock me, burning into my retinas. The whispers of the guests rose like a tide, threatening to drown me."Impossible. How could Elara be pregnant?"My hands trembled violently. The thin piece of paper felt heavier than a boulder.I wanted to run after that courier.I wanted to grab him by the collar and demand to know where Elara had gone. But the moment I took a step, a pai

With three days left before my departure, I received a message from the director of the healer's clinic. He said the master herbalist I had asked him to contact was passing through our territory today and could take a look at the old Luna's chronic ailment.Years ago, the old Luna had been wounded by a silver weapon in battle, leaving her with a lung condition. Though managed, she suffered from severe breathing difficulty on rainy days. While studying abroad, I had consistently asked my colleagues to help me find related case studies. No matter what had happened, our years of connection still meant something. After doing this one last thing, my debt to them would be paid in full. But when I told the old Luna I was taking her to see the master, her face instantly darkened."Why on earth would I see a master? Just because I criticized you, you're now cursing me to die early?""Elara, how can you be so malicious? My last check-up with the pack healers said I was perfectly healthy. There's

Such a monumental betrayal, yet he spoke of it so lightly.I packed the last of my clothes into my suitcase. Just then, the old Luna pushed the door open. She saw the suitcase at my feet and her face showed a flicker of satisfaction."While you were gone, I let Liana use your main bedroom. The study next to it has been converted into a nursery. You can sleep on the living room sofa tonight. If you don't like it, you can find a guest cabin outside."I was truly exhausted. My wolf was weary from the long journey and the crushing emotional blow.On top of that, being pregnant had weakened me slightly. I had no energy to argue.I simply nodded, preparing to spend the night on the sofa. But deep into the night, the pup's loud cries echoed from the master bedroom.I turned over, about to use my mental energy to block out the noise, when I heard Liana's tearful complaint."Kaelen, do something about the baby. He won't stop crying, and I can't sleep."Then came Kaelen's soft, gentle laughter.
