She was busy working at the orphanage. Surely that would explain why she had been taking so long to reply.

He was reassured by Amelie’s remark and relaxed visibly. He heaved a long sigh before turning to Amelie with a look of guilt in his eyes.

“Amelie, if you behave and keep to yourself, I promise to give you anything. The only thing I can’t give you is to take you as one of my family.

Later that night, Amelie started to vomit constantly again. It was almost daybreak when her condition stabilized.
