Chapter 3 Fulfilling Your Wish

That explained why Juliet had called Henry last night and thanked him for the roses he had supposedly given her.

Henry's gaze turned icy. "Fire that person."

Wade was startled, but he swiftly nodded. "Yes, Mr. Chase."

Just then, Henry's phone rang.

Wade wisely backed out of the office.

Henry glanced at the caller ID. He didn't take the call.

Natalie kept calling stubbornly.

Finally at his limit, Henry answered the call and growled out, "I'm warning you, Natalie. Don't test my patience!"

Natalie paused before asking quietly, "You keep telling me to get lost, don't you? Isn't it great that I'm finally fulfilling your wish?"

Henry rubbed his temples before retorting sarcastically, "Now you think about fulfilling my wish, huh? What about what happened three months ago, then?

"You went to extreme lengths to set me up and climb into my bed, but now, you're telling me you want a divorce? Do you take me for a fool?"

"Henry—"

He cut her off and continued, "What's the matter? Once wasn't enough, so you're planning on setting me up a second time? Do you think I'll let you get the chance to do that?"

Henry's voice dripped with mockery.

Then, without waiting for Natalie's reply, he dropped the call.

Natalie stood by the window. Her face was ghostly pale.

She chuckled self-deprecatingly.

Of course, she knew he would never let her come near him again.

She knew full well how much he despised her.

Three months ago, she had already felt hopeless about their marriage. A thought occurred to her then.

If they had a child … would their relationship change?

The thought festered in her mind before consuming her entirely. As if under a spell, she ignored the consequences and tricked him.

If she could turn back time to three months ago …

No, she wanted to go three years back in time. That way, she would never let this empty marriage happen in the first place.

While thinking about this, Natalie stroked her belly.

Even though she schemed to have this baby, its arrival was still unexpected …

She was brought out of her thoughts by the sound of her phone ringing.

When Natalie saw Henry's name on the caller ID, she assumed he was finally agreeing to her request. So, she immediately asked, "When are you free to head to the courthouse?"

Instead of answering her, Henry asked, "Where are you now?"

"Are you picking me up so that we can go down to the courthouse together?"

"Natalie, if you bring this up again, I'll kill you right now!" Henry's patience had run out.

He swiftly said, "Grandpa called. He wants us to go over for a meal."

Startled, Natalie paused briefly before saying, "I'm at Tranquil Heights. Come over and pick me up."

Natalie had nothing but gratitude and respect for Owen.

Three years ago, the Shepherd family had been in deep trouble. If Owen hadn't shown up to resolve many of the issues for Natalie, she did not know what would have become of her.

Since she had decided to divorce Henry, she needed to inform Owen and his wife, Moira Kinney, about it.

One hour later, the car pulled up outside a standalone residence.

Owen and Moira kept a low profile, so the family home was plain as well. It was just a small villa.

Though it was not a huge house, it was decorated with a warm and homey feeling.

There was only one housekeeper in charge of tending to the elderly couple's needs.

Owen and Moira were happy to see Natalie. They kept showering her with concern.

"You lost weight again, Natalie. Why don't you move back in? I'll get Greta to take good care of you."

The moment Moira finished her sentence, Owen piped up, "You really have! That brat doesn't know how to take care of others at all. I need to give him a talking-to later!"

Natalie's heart warmed. No matter how much Henry loathed her, Owen and Moira truly cared about her.

She was just about to respond when Henry eyed her before suddenly remarking, "Did she lose weight? She looks like she gained weight instead!

"Well, it's no surprise. How can she not gain weight when all she does is stay at home in a lapse of luxury?"

"Henry!" Owen was so mad that he used his cane to whack Henry on the leg.

Moira couldn't stop herself from glaring at her grandson, too. "How can you say that?"

Then, she turned back to Natalie and consoled, "Ignore him, Natalie! Your grandpa will teach him a lesson later!"

Natalie smiled, but she wasn't as calm as she looked.

Ever since she got pregnant, her weight began increasing.

She figured Owen and Moira only said she lost weight because they wanted her to move in with them for a while.

Still, she didn't expect Henry to notice she had gained weight …

Natalie realized she needed to put more effort into hiding her pregnancy from him.

Throughout the meal, Natalie was a little distracted.

Once the meal was over, Owen said happily, "Natalie, we asked you two to come over today because we have something important to tell you!"

Moira was all smiles too. "That's right! We've been thinking about it for a long time!"

Owen and Moira led Natalie over to the couch.

They paid no attention to Henry. It was as if he were invisible.

"Grandpa, Grandma, what is it?" Natalie was rather puzzled.

Moira sat down beside Natalie and took her hand. "Soon, it'll be the third anniversary of your marriage, right?"

Naturally, Natalie remembered their wedding anniversary.

It was the day she first met Henry.

However, she doubted that Henry even bothered to remember such things.

"Yeah. It has almost been three years." A mixture of emotions surged within Natalie's heart.

"Well, your grandma and I have decided to organize a banquet to celebrate the occasion." Owen couldn't wait to make the announcement.

Natalie froze. She did not know what to say.

Moira continued, "Your grandpa and I have discussed all the details. You and Henry don't have to do anything. You just have to show up at the banquet."

Natalie's lips trembled slightly, looking as though she wanted to speak up. At the same time, she was getting choked up.

She was already planning to divorce Henry, yet at a time like this, Owen and Moira wanted to host a banquet to celebrate their wedding anniversary …

Natalie instinctively glanced at Henry.

The man, who had been silent the whole time, finally spoke up curtly, "That won't be necessary."
