Chapter 34 – Ana

I sat on the edge of the large bed, positioned just behind Desmond. The room felt incredibly quiet. The only sounds were the soft crackle of the fire in the hearth and the faint, steady sound of his breathing. His back was bare, showing his broad shoulders. They looked rigid and tight beneath my hands. I moved slowly, gently spreading the cool herbal paste over the angry red welt that his father had carved across his skin.

The whip mark looked even worse now that I was up close.
