MAXIMUM

After we made love, we fell asleep, but my mind was still fixated on how to handle Lana’s mom.

The next morning, I woke up before her. I gently kissed her forehead, took a moment to admire her beauty, then washed up and sent a quick message to my secretary. I didn’t wake her; it was the weekend after all. Instead, I went downstairs to have breakfast.

Once I confirmed Lana’s mom hadn’t left for New York, I arranged a meeting with her. I made some quick arrangements before leaving the house.

When I arrived at the private room, I found her waiting for me, her face tense with anger.

“Ma—” I started to say, but she cut me off sharply.

“Don’t call me that,” she snapped, her eyes narrowing with disdain. “I know what you’re up to. Asking my husband for a divorce, isn’t it? Planning to tear our family apart? To isolate Lana and ruin her relationship with her family? Or maybe… I guess you just want to do whatever you want with her, without anyone interfering.”

MAXIMUMAt that moment, I wasn't sure whether to feel relief or anger. I could see she had no intention of hurting me. Without thinking, I pulled her into my arms."I know, my love," I whispered softly. "But please, do it for your mother. If you refuse to do what she asks, she’ll never give up. She’ll keep bothering you, showing up everywhere, pestering you nonstop."Lana looked into my eyes, the reluctance visible in her gaze.“I will do as you’ve said,” she finally told me.A breath of relief escaped me. I was glad I had been persistent, even if it pained me to see her mother suffering. Though she tried to hide it, I could tell she was sad.“Let’s go have dinner,” I said after I changed clothes. We ate together, and afterwards, we retired to bed.I had already instructed my men to force Lionel into agreeing to meet with me—he’d been declining all my invitations. And tonight, their efforts paid off. My phone rang in the office.I reached out and picked it up. The caller was none othe

LANABeing judged by complete strangers who had no idea what was really going on made Lana furious. She lashed out, yelling, “Who made you the judges? Do you all not have your own family problems? Are you all living perfect, wonderful lives?”When I questioned them, they all looked at me in surprise. I didn’t hold back. “You shouldn’t comment or condemn people when you have no idea what’s happening. Keep your mouths shut and stay out of what you don’t understand.”Their reactions left them dumbfounded. I turned to my mom, noticing her realization that I wasn’t happy. Without a word, she stood up.“Lana...” she began softly.I cut her off. “Mom, do you realize that doing this could ruin my reputation at school? Do you want to ruin my college years too? Can we please keep our family matters private? It’s too shameful.”I turned away and headed toward the car. I refused to look back.“Lana,” my mom called after me.I stopped just before the car, refusing to turn around and face her.“If

LANAWhen I returned home, I felt overwhelmed with worry and anxiety after learning about my dad's plan to use me and my mother to murder Maximum. The fear was so intense that I couldn’t calm down.Even Maximum noticed I wasn’t myself during dinner.“Are you alright, babe? You don’t seem like yourself,” he asked gently.I looked at him, unsure whether to reveal the truth. Seeing my hesitation, he added, “Eat first. We can talk about it after dinner.”Relieved by his understanding, I exhaled deeply, my tension easing just a little. After we finished eating, we went to the bedroom. He pulled me into his arms, kissed my forehead softly, and asked, “Is something troubling you?”I looked into his eyes and nodded. “My dad.”His arms around my waist tightened as he looked at me with concern. “Is he making your mom’s life difficult?”I hesitated before replying, “More than that.”He raised an eyebrow, waiting for me to continue. I took a deep breath and explained, “My dad wants to give you a

LANAWhen we got home, I was already exhausted. After washing up, I climbed into bed and drifted off to sleep. Maximum was so understanding that he didn’t bother me or try to start a conversation. The next morning, the sweet aroma of a delicious meal woke me from my sleep. I opened my eyes to see my husband standing nearby."Breakfast in bed, baby," he said with a smile.I looked at him and returned his smile, greeting, "Good morning, my love."He walked over, kissed my forehead gently, and said, "Eat quickly."I stretched, yawned, and asked, "Are you going out?"He turned to me and reassured, "I’ll be back sooner than you think."Relief washed over me because I missed him so much and wished I could spend the whole day with him.He left the room, and I began eating. After breakfast, I washed up and then fell asleep again, unaware that I was mentally stressed from spending days confined in my father’s house.A kiss on my forehead woke me from sleep. With my eyes still shut, I reached o

MAXIMUMLionel was momentarily stunned by my decisive action—I don’t think he expected me to stand my ground. My men moved silently into the rooms, their presence commanding."Stop this madness right now! Maximum," he barked, his teeth clenched and eyes blazing with fury as he shouted coldly.I calmly walked over to the sofa in the sitting room, sat cross-legged, and regarded him with a smirk that wasn’t quite a smile. He took a deep breath, fists clenched tightly at his sides."I am your father-in-law," he warned, voice strained with anger. "You are disobeying me. Ask Max to stop them now, or I’ll make sure Lana divorces you."I didn’t bother to take his threats seriously. In fact, the more he threatened, the more I felt justified in ordering my men to search the house. He had been obstructing me from uncovering what he’s been hiding."Repeating it won’t scare me. Stop trying to bully me. I’ll apologize to you if Lana isn’t here," I replied coolly. Then I leaned back, closed my eyes,

LANAWhen I realized he was actually ridiculing the statement I had made, I felt my blood boil with frustration. Impatiently, I blurted out, "Don't say I didn't warn you, Dad. Let me go."My dad shot me a look that practically called me an idiot, then shook his head and said, "Don’t dream too much, baby girl. Your dear husband has already been fooled—he’s taken the bait. Right now, he thinks you're in Spain with Bernardo, considering your history with him..."He cackled evilly, and I felt my whole body tremble at the revelation: my dad knew everything that had happened between Mom and me, especially with Bernardo. He had always acted like he didn’t know.Seeing the shock on my face, he chuckled softly before adding, "Don’t worry, I don’t know all the details. But remember, you are still my daughter. Think about what I said."Then he turned around and walked away. I watched him go, realization sinking in—that my dad had been fooling all of us all along. He was pretending, playing us li

LANAThe next day, as promised, my mom came to see me. When I saw her, she looked like a black panda, her dark eye circles betraying a night of restless sleep.I knew she hadn't slept well either."Mom," I called softly. She sighed heavily, looking disheartened. She took my hands and sat on my bed. "I'm sorry, Lana, for being the worst mother in the world. I feel like I’ve not only ruined your childhood but also given you the worst father on Earth. I feel like I’ve let you down..."I quickly interrupted her. "No, no, no."Shaking my head, I reassured her, "Mom, you might have your faults and make mistakes—because you're human, and everyone does. But what makes us better people is recognizing those mistakes, accepting them, and trying to correct them."My mother smiled helplessly. Then she said, "You have so much hope in me, Lana. I don’t think I can do anything. I talked to your dad, and he refused to agree to my request to let you go. He doesn’t want to hear me out."Her eyes reddene

LANAI could hardly believe my ears. I thought he was joking, but when I heard him say, “Take all her belongings and don’t let her step out of the door. She isn’t allowed to leave her room,” I realized my father was serious. The mansion’s security guards walked in, responding in unison, “Yes, sir.”He released my hand and looked at me with an icy glare. In that moment, I understood: his intention to imprison me wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment decision. It had been premeditated.“You know my husband will come for me,” I managed to say, trying to hold onto my defiance. My father sneered. “Not when I tell him you’re not here. I’ll make him believe you eloped with your stepfather, Bernardo.”My eyes widened as the truth struck me. Bernardo was free in New York not because he had the means to be, but because my father was protecting him.All the good impressions I once held of my father shattered in an instant. He wasn’t just a scoundrel; he was a monster. But I refused to let his actions brea
