LANA

I thought about it seriously, seeing the hopeful look filled with expectation in his eyes. I nodded.

He eagerly asked, "Does that mean yes? Are you going home with me?"

I smiled warmly and was about to respond, "Yes, we ca—"

Before I could finish, he impatiently interrupted, "Let’s go home."

He was about to pull the IV drip, but I stopped him. "Don’t. We can go after your discharge. I promise, I’ll be here until you’re ready to go."

He looked at me doubtfully, so I reassured him, "I promise I won’t go back on my word."

He exhaled slowly and relaxed back onto the hospital bed. He then reached out and took my hand, his eyelids growing heavy. That’s when I noticed the dark circles under his eyes—he hadn’t been sleeping. A wave of pity washed over me.

Holding my palm tightly, he murmured, "You promise you won’t leave."

Those were his last words before he drifted into a deep sleep. I stayed by his side, watching over him for thirty minutes; he continued sleeping soundly.

LANAI stood up and reached into my handbag, grabbing the bottle of pills. Without hesitation, I entered the bathroom and dumped all of them into the toilet. I flushed, then returned to the bedroom and lay down on the bed, slowly drifting off to sleep. The next morning, I woke up to find Maximum smiling at me. I raised an eyebrow, giving him an inquiring look."Good morning," I muttered groggily. He grinned wider and said, "Lana, I've decided to tell you everything you need to know."I frowned, remembering how last night he hadn't wanted to share anything, refusing even to give me a hint when I asked. Now, suddenly, he was willing."What changed?" I asked, curious. He glanced toward the bathroom door, and I immediately understood the reason. But I chose to speak my mind. "It's not because I’ve forgiven you. The real reason I did it is because I don’t trust my dad either. I don’t know what you’re fighting over, but it’s none of my business. I refuse to be a pawn in his game."He shrugg

LANAHearing this from my father left me feeling confused about his true intentions.I confronted him directly. "Dad, are you telling me about another man who's into me while I’m still married? What are you trying to achieve with this?"He froze, realizing he had misspoken. After a moment, he quickly apologized. "I didn't mean that. I was just surprised he was so captivated by your charm."I wasn't in the mood to continue the conversation. I didn't even know how it had started; all I wanted was to see Maximum.Even my father seemed to notice my mood. He reminded me softly, "Lana, don’t lose focus. That beast killed your mother."Hearing those words stunned me into silence. I fell quiet as he drove me home, the car pulling up at the gate. I stepped out, knowing my father; if he saw Maximum, he wouldn’t hesitate to confront him.I waved goodbye as he reversed and drove off. I then made my way inside the mansion alone, a car sent to pick me up at the gate.As I stepped out of the vehicle

LANAI took the pill bottle from my dad, and he nodded in satisfaction before smiling warmly. "You are the true daughter of your father," he said softly.I didn't bother asking what the pills were for—deep down, I already knew. My dad had never hidden his intentions regarding Maximum, though I thought it was an extreme measure. But now, my feelings had shifted."Edward is awake. Would you like to see him?" my dad suggested.Thinking it over, I realized it was best to see Edward with my dad—to avoid any misunderstandings with my husband. I nodded without hesitation. “Yes, let’s go and see him.”My dad smiled and started the car. He drove out of campus, but barely had we left the gate when my phone rang. I stared at the screen—Maximumm calling.I hesitated, debating whether to answer.“Your phone is ringing. Who is calling?” my dad’s voice broke into my thoughts.I looked at him briefly before answering. “It’s Maximum.”His expression darkened, and his eyes grew fierce—an unmistakable l

LANAI was stunned when my dad returned barely thirty minutes after he had left. As he approached from the other end of the corridor, his footsteps quickened, and he looked extremely anxious. My heart started pounding with fear, and I instinctively stood on my toes, asking, "Dad, what happened?"He looked at me seriously, then asked, "Did you tell Maximum that you’re planning to divorce him?"I didn’t try to deny it. Instead, I nodded and affirmed, "Yes."He fell silent, his face unreadable, and remained quiet for two long minutes. I had no idea what he was thinking, and the tense silence made my stomach tighten with anxiety. I wondered what was going through his mind. Finally, he sighed heavily and said regretfully, "Don’t you think you’re rushing into this? Have you really made up your mind? Do you still love him?"I was taken aback by his tone—he seemed confused, almost conflicted. I had always thought he didn’t want me and Maximum together, but now he seemed unsure and strange.“I

A few minutes later, they arrived, and the paramedics took him to the hospital. He was admitted to the emergency ward, and I sat down in the waiting lounge. A few moments later, I was stunned to see my dad walk into the hospital. I was surprised he had found out, because I hadn't intended to let him know."Who did this? Was it that scum?" my dad's roar echoed from down the corridor as he hurried toward me.I rose to my feet.As he drew closer, he repeated more firmly, "It’s Maximum who hurt him, right?"I hesitated, wanting to prevent him from confronting Maximum. I tried to calm him down. "Dad, sit first. The doctor will be out soon."He shot me a dissatisfied glare. "Are you protecting that violent monster?""Isn't—"But he cut me off sharply before I could finish. "Today it's Edward. Tomorrow, it could be someone else. Lana, open your eyes.
