LANA

I exhaled in relief, glad my dad hadn’t called me back.

With Max and me alone in the room, he gently pulled me into his arms. We lay together on the bed, and in his embrace, I felt a profound sense of peace. I didn’t even notice when I drifted off to sleep.

His soft lips pressed to my forehead made me flutter awake. I opened my eyes to see his face close to mine, and I was captivated—mesmerized by his features. No matter how many times I looked at him, I couldn’t help but love his face; he’s just too adorable.

“Good morning,” I heard him whisper.

Butterflies erupted in my stomach. I pressed a gentle kiss to his lips before replying, “Good morning.”

I hugged him tightly, feeling so safe and comfortable in his arms that I didn’t want to let go. He then said softly, “Go wash up. She’s been waiting for us.”

Reluctantly, I slid down from the bed and made my way to the bathroom. After washing up and getting dressed, we left the room together, stopping for breakfast on the way out.

MAXIMUMThat night, I couldn’t sleep. Standing on the balcony of the hotel I’d booked, I stared out into the darkness—silent, contemplative, empty. Lana wasn’t by my side; without her, my life had lost all meaning, become dull and colorless.I lowered my gaze to my toes, then immediately downed a shot of liquor, the burn of it flooding my throat. What a world, I sighed heavily, rubbing my forehead as frustration and anguish churned inside me.“Boss, we’ve infiltrated Lionel’s ranks, but…” one of my subordinates reported, voice trembling, “we found out Lana’s been taken by someone.”That news only fueled my irritation. I snapped, “Who is it? Who the hell did they give my wife to? Who?”In my rage, I smashed the glass in my hand against the wall, shards scattering everywhere. My whole body tensed with fury. The subordinate flinched, apologizing hurriedly, “We’re still investigating, sir.”I pointed at the door, voice sharp. “Get out. I want results, not guesses. I want Lana back—her, an

MAXIMUMUnder my instruction, my men stormed the mansion, searching every corner thoroughly.Lionel sat there, completely unconcerned, indifference etched across his face.As the minutes dragged into hours, I realized Lana wasn’t inside the mansion at all. My gaze hardened as I looked at Lionel coldly. He must have taken her somewhere I wouldn’t find her easily.Clenching my fists, I spoke with icy precision. "Where is she? Where the hell did you take her? Where's my wife? Tell me."Lionel glanced at me, then casually cleaned his ear with his finger before retorting, "Why are you shouting so loud? Honestly, I can hear you just fine without all the noise. No need to yell at the top of your lungs."My jaw tightened as I steadied myself. "I’m not in the mood for your games. Just tell me—where is Lana?"He leaned back, crossing his legs with a nonchalant air. "No idea."I stared him down, my voice steely. "The last place she was seen was in your house. She left in that car your men drove

LANAAt this moment, I realized I was surrounded by people who hated me—people who wanted to ruin and destroy me.When Bernardo revealed he knew who my real mother was, a shiver ran down my spine. Terror gripped me.He sneered, “Your mother didn’t just betray me—she broke my heart.”That was when it hit me—the reason Bernardo had treated me so harshly all these years. Now, I understood. His marriage to Stella wasn’t because he loved her; it was a calculated move to ensure I suffered at his hands.“How did my mother betray you? What does it have to do with me?” I demanded, furious. I was suffering, maltreated for someone I’d never met in my life.I couldn’t understand why I was being punished for the sins of a woman I never knew.Bernardo’s eyes darkened as he sneered, “Of course it’s about you. It’s all because of you.”He slammed his fist against the wall, bloodshot eyes fixed on me, trembling with emotion.“She was such a sweet girl. The Wilsons took her away, but I couldn’t get her

MAXIMUMI had suspected all along that old Lionel was up to no good. No wonder Lana hadn’t come back—deep down, I’d guessed he’d done something terrible to her.The sniper team had probably been captured by my men, and the rest of my forces had stormed the house. Gunfire echoed loudly through the air.Knowing Lionel’s ruthlessness and twisted nature, I ordered an immediate retreat. I didn’t trust him—especially not with the mansion potentially rigged with explosives. That old man is crazy enough to do something like that.My men and I hurried into the car and sped away.We hadn’t gone far when an explosion engulfed the mansion in flames—a deafening blast that lit up the night sky.I shook my head. So predictable.Once we were a safe distance away, I headed straight back home. I went directly to my study and made a few urgent calls. I dispatched my men to find Lionel—no matter how deep they had to dig, I wanted to know his whereabouts, hidden or not.“Find him. I want to know where he

LANAA chill ran through my entire body, and fear clenched my chest as I realized what my father was really revealing—his feelings toward all women, including me. I opened my mouth to speak, but no words came out.He sneered, “You already figured it out, didn’t you?”His smile was so terrifying that I found it hard to breathe. Summoning all my courage, I asked, “Was everything you told me about your feelings toward my mother and Stella true?”He scoffed and sneered. “Those are just empty words. Do you really think I loved them? I never did. When I came here, I had no love for Stella either. She thought she was sleeping with me, but it wasn’t really me—someone else was in my place. She claimed to love me, but she still enjoyed sex with another man in my bedroom.”A wild, furious glint burned in his eyes as he continued. “Every time I heard her moan, all I could feel was disgust. I wanted her dead—she’s so disgusting.”A cold shiver ran down my spine. It became painfully clear how twist

LANAI got into the driver's seat, and he drove off immediately, heading straight to the hospital. After parking, I got out and went to see the lab technician. He handed me an envelope. "Here it is," he said.I took it, but I didn’t open it right away. My heart was pounding in my chest. My emotions were a jumble—confusion, anxiety, hope—and I wasn’t sure how I should react to the DNA results. What if Charles was Maximum’s son? What if he wasn’t?My feelings were tangled. When I finally got back into the car, I hesitated before unsealing the envelope. I carefully pulled out the DNA result slip and read it."Charles isn’t his son," I mumbled, softly, as I absorbed the words. A wave of relief washed over me, yet guilt crept in—I felt I hadn’t trusted Maximum enough. I lowered my eyes guiltily. The driver broke the silence. "Ma’am, should I drive to the campus?"“No,” I replied quietly. “Drive to my father’s house. I want to see him.”As the car moved towards my father’s place, my mind ra
