ZAYLA

It wasn't long before the waitress returned to the table with the drinks. Gianna stood up, a sweet, wicked smile tugging at her lips, as she walked around the table. With elegance and practiced ease she grabbed two glasses of drink from the table and moved to where the brothers were seated.

"Here," she said, her smile widening just a little as she handed the drinks to Ziven and Zarek. "You don't usually bring ladies to our table. And when you did, I judged your preference. I judged her. Well, she proved my judgement absolutely wrong, and I'm really sorry about that."

My gaze swept her all over again, looking for a trace of lie or insincerity, but there was none.

"That was a hell of a speech, G," Archer cut in, his voice teasing.

"Shut up, Archer," Gianna scolded dramatically, trying so hard not to laugh.

Both siblings were holding back their laugh, which only meant one thing.

"Hey, come on. I'm being remorseful here." Gianna drawled, shooting them a glare.

"Ok, whatever,"

  • OWNED BY THE MADDOX BROTHERS    A Beautiful kind of Cruelty

ZAYLAThe bathroom was an extension of the suite's luxury, sleek black marble, gold fixtures, and a sink wide enough for two. I stared at Zane briefly as we stood in front of the mirror, the usual warm glint in his eyes had returned, but wrapped with something darker, hooded even and indescribable. He hasn't said a word since we walked in here, which was very unlike Zane. But I shrugged and turned on the water faucet. Steam fogged the mirror as the warm water rushed out, the sound drowning out the pounding in my chest. He came behind me, close enough that I felt the heat radiating off him. It was just us. Him and me. In this spacious bathroom, yet his presence found a way to fill the whole space, making it feel small, Intimate even. Fighting the heat growing inside me, I turned and took his hands. I guided them under the steam, watching the water turn pink as it washed away the dried blood. Matteo's blood. Yes. Matteo's blood. "Zane," I muttered low, my voice breathy as I pumped so

  • OWNED BY THE MADDOX BROTHERS    Voices in my head

ZAYLAThe suite Ziven brought me into was warm, opulent and picturesque. It was nothing short of magnificent. An airy expanse of marble floors, floor to ceiling windows, and understated gold accents that spoke of effortless wealth. Every piece of furniture looked custom-made, every surface polished to perfection, giving the space the quiet, intimidating elegance of money that never needed to announce itself. He dropped me gently on the black leather sofa, straightening his shirt as he stood fully, his gaze not leaving me."Feel better?" He asked, his gaze still lingering on me before he turned, stepping away. My gaze followed him until he disappeared further into the room. Yes, I was feeling better. I was no longer trembling, and my heart no longer felt like it was going to leave my ribcage in the next second. But my neck... my neck still ached, and felt really painful. I could only imagine the marks on there. What if Zane hadn't arrived on time? What if they hadn't come at all? I

ZAYLA"Angel," his voice came again, cracking right down the middle, sharp and deadly. He sank to his knees with me clutched against him, like he couldn't stand either. My throat was on fire, scorching hot. My heart was pounding, trying to claw its way out of my ribcage. Everything was too much."Zane..." I choked between sobs, barely able to breathe. His arms closed around me immediately, pressing me into his chest. Then he pulled away a bit, to cup my cheeks with both hands, his gun forgotten on the floor. "Look at me, Angel. Breathe with me. In... out... Again. I've got you. I've got you."I tried, God I tried. But I failed. Still trembling as panic held me captive. His thumb gently wiped the blood—Matteo's blood, my tears—smearing it across my face. "Shhh... I'm here. Nobody will ever touch you again." My fingers twisted in his shirt, my knuckles white. I wanted to speak, to tell him it wasn’t just this life, it was the last one too, that I’d already died like this once and

ZAYLA Matteo. It was Matteo. His breath, alcohol mixed with tobacco fanned against my face, as he stepped close, closing the gap between us. "We meet again... bella." He smiled, slow and cruel. I swallowed hard, and forced a smile, masking the horror crawling up my spine. "Matteo?" my smile widened, grateful my voice didn't betray me. "Ahh, little stronza got my name," he laughed out loudly, ugly, and the men behind him followed. The sound of their laughter filling the silent hallway like hyena. I didn't know if I should laugh along or not, so I kept my smile small, contemplating what next to say. "Had no idea I was going to meet you here, you seem to be going to the restroom, yeah?" "No." Matteo shook his head, the smile on his lips gone. My throat constricted, as the air around us shifted, heavier now. He closed in even more, the gold chain on his neck slightly brushing my collarbone. I moved back a bit, only for my back to hit the wall, leaving me trapped."I'm he

  • OWNED BY THE MADDOX BROTHERS    Scopa and Sin

ZAYLA The men exchanged serious glances like they didn't expect me to be really serious about playing with them. Zarek's dark gaze snapped to me, sharp and unreadable. Then Ziven's, he watched me, clearly displeased, but didn't stop me."Jeez, I really like her!" I hear Rafaella's say, her tone laced with interest as all their attention shifted to me. I swear, I'd be lying if I said I was panicking inwardly. I was genuinely freaked out, but I reined it in with a confident and sharp smile. The tattooed man laughed under his breath, mocking. "Do you even know the rules, Bella?" "No," I said, smiling. "But I'm a fast learner." "I see," he grunted, and shuffled the worn deck with loud sloppy confidence. "Alright, Bella. Let's play. Four cards each. Table gets four. Match numbers to take cards. Simple enough? Try not to cry when you lose." My smile turned sharper, "I won't cry," I said and sat forward." I turned sharply, just long enough to meet the brothers burning gaze. Neither
