"It's dark here!" I exclaimed, rising up from my bed. I first thought it was only a dream I had been having.
It was a darker day, partially bright. As usual, the entire land of Arleta covered almost dark places only. It was believed that there was a powerful moon which controlled the land and always empowered the enemy wolves.
I walked out of my room, trying to go and check on Angus. My footsteps sounded very loudly that I stopped and looked back. I didn't feel free with him yet, but I was often pained when I was alone.
Why would my mother's situation keep ringing in my ears?
"Anyone?" I asked, keeping mute after that. I first thought Angus was the one intentionally chasing me. I knew he loved playing with me in such a way.
Suddenly, I heard footsteps other than mine. I knew too well that it wasn't mine. But, it also didn't sound like a strong man's footsteps like Angus's, because Angus wouldn't want to scare me by stomping the ground and pursuing me.
I ran, as I kept on gasping. Immediately I saw a fence, I hid behind it. I was bothered and was wondering how an enemy could pervade into my abode again.
Where was Angus?
My eyes blinked, as the atmosphere began to change. It started with a gusty and unending wind. I couldn't remain behind the fence, so I walked by the tip far away from the spot I had heard the strange footsteps.
"Hey, Future Luna!" I heard a voice, stiff and so deep, which cast me in fright that I froze. There was a tree beside me, so I quickly stood behind the stem, watching out for the pursuer.
I could no longer hold it. The eerie sound coming from the front of the tree was ringing louder than my ears could contain. "Who is that?!" I let out, my voice coming low, meaning to disallow the stranger from locating me. "Where is Angus?" I muttered to myself, almost sobbing.
"Fortunately for me, I've found the real you!" The strange voice continued. "Just like I found your mother, I have found you… hahaha!"
I was shocked. Would I remain at the spot hearing that? Even if I tried to run away, the stranger who could be a werewolf, would catch me easily. How was I going to escape him?
I gasped.
Within a short while, I began to hear the clashes of swords. I couldn't turn my head forward to pry into the scene, since I feared weapons. I held my chest with my right hand and began to sob.
The voice who called me the future Luna must have known me before. He was speaking like the brutal wolf who tortured and devoured my mother. I didn't know what he meant by referring to me as the future Luna.
"Let her come out!" I heard again, the voice sounding in the same way as the stranger's. It was still him, but I didn't see what sort of person or creature he was. "Why not give it a try?!"
"Can you dare me?" Another voice returned, sounding exactly as Angus's. I was stunned and forced to look at the scene, just with one eye.
It was Angus, holding a very smooth sword with rage, and was approaching the enemy in slow steps.
"Do you know me at all?" The wolf questioned Angus, his voice breathing out foams of fire. I decided to leave the spot, since Angus was there. But, I still wanted to hear Angus's response to the enemy.
"Who are you?" Angus reverted, his voice swallowing that of the wolf. "I think you should have resigned and asked the moon to stop supporting you!"
"That angers me the most, fool!" The wolf exclaimed, "I must not see that girl here. Else, I will kill her. Her blood does not taste sweet in my tongue. Trust me."
"You're silly!" Angus exclaimed back, as he rushed to the wolf and stabbed him by his side. "Let me give you a taste of this smooth sword. You'll be forced to surrender, when I capture and punish all your pack members!"
"I have never lost one of them since years now…" the wolf objected, raising his voice as he touched the wounded part of his body. "How are you sure you will cause that to happen?"
"It will be an interesting job to play on my end, Alpha Thane!" Angus retorted, breathing heavily as he deliberately stopped striking. "What the sword cannot do, I will do to make sure I seize power from you."
"How do you even know my name?" The wolf asked, blinking his eyes in amazement.
"I don't have time for stories." Angus rapped.
"You're troubling my nerves, but I won't say anything until I'm ready to..." The wolf complained, as he rushed to Angus and suddenly closed his eyes.
Without wasting time, Angus, having discovered the wolf's tactics, kicked him out of his way. The wolf was trying to evoke powers into his body, heal his wound and strike Angus till he was defeated. I could remember how that wicked Alpha always gesticulated whenever he was trampling his prey underfoot to feed on them. He would look up and close his two eyes. It gave me a glimpse into the past, so I turned my face back, and my neck made a slight but audibly sound.
"Who's right there, behind you?" The wolf questioned Angus, his eyes still off.
"Open your eyes and see for yourself." Angus retorted, as he returned the sword into the sheath. "I'm done with you for now. I don't have time to waste here."
Immediately the wolf heard that, he opened his eyes again and breathed softly, smiling at Angus.
"I need the future Luna." The wolf requested, proving to be submissive as his voice suddenly became softer. "I wonder if you can get her for me."
"Are you still craving her?!" Angus questioned him, frowning his face and nearly brought out the sword, again.
"What if I am craving her?" The wolf asked back, as he moved side to side and was approaching Angus, very closely.
"Then, you can't have her!" Angus exclaimed.
"I pity you." The wolf said, his voice raised louder and fiercely. "I thought you should have known you're already a prey…"
Very intelligently and quickly, Angus turned backwards and jumped onto a cliff, targeting a dangling rope that was stuck to a metal on the nearby mountain.
Angus noticed there were numerous snarling wolves right behind him, but when they discovered they had lost sight of him, the wolf leader screamed at them, commanding them to locate Angus. I was already seated on the branch of the tree, since I couldn't stand being wounded by the bloodthirsty wolf, without a prior signal.
"I just hope Ellie is not anywhere close…" Angus muttered, his words sliding into my ears, as I began to pant.
Moonlight and clearing reigned, as even now the full energy of the ancient tree coursed through me. Visions were mercifully bright and elegant, telling secrets of our pack's history and destiny. It stirred awe and wonder in me, as my brain tried to process the weight of what I had learned. Deep breath, to chill out the racing thoughts. I clearly knew that I had to share it with Angus and our advisors to let any meaning sink in, but for now, I may just stand in the serene clearing. Suddenly, silence fell apart with the rustling of leaves. Turned alert on high senses, a figure showed from the shadows, eyes sicked upon me with an unnerving intensity. Then close, I was shaken by the shiver that raked my spine again as he took a step closer, facial features still hidden by darkness. "Scream caution. Protect. Our pack."It raised wide hands, preparing to defend, were it needed. Another step forward and I could make out a little of their features - shape of face, general outline of eye
I lay down softly on the ground and began to look around for the fight. The Thane Wrest pack was powerful, but I was not to be defeated. With one smooth move, I tore into the wolves, closing my fingers around their mouths to rip out their teeth. They howled and snapped as they stumbled backward, trying to shake out the confusion.I attacked quickly, bringing down wolf after wolf. But with each kill, the gnawing sense of caution appeared to grow stronger. I didn't want to kill those wolves. They were forced to fight just as my pack members were. A moment's hesitation was all the Thane Wrest needed to rally. The wolves were breeding practically unlimited. I realised the need to do something fast. "No killing. I wonder why we cannot just settle this fight between us!” The wolves stopped their growls but looked at me with frightened but firm eyes. I knew I had to do something or be swamped.Breathing a little harder, I bound my mind and unleashed a blast of my power. The wolves were knoc
I stood there tall in front of the Thane Wrest pack. My feet were suspended above the ground, and my voice rang clear through the clearing, being reflected back off the trees. "I am here for peace, with an offer for a treaty that would end the bloodshed between our packs." The tension was palatable, the pack members exchanging casino glances. Some looked away; others looked at me with a blend of curiosity and hostility. I met them unwavering. Then from the throng, a tall figure strode forth. There appeared a frown on Alpha Thane's face and in the process, it widened in rage. "You're nothing but a fool, don't you know?" he shouted at me, spitting on the ground, his tone wrapped with scorn. "How can just walk in here and demand that we sign a treaty?" I grinned; my gaze was fixed on his. "I don't demand Alpha Thane; I propose. I'm willing to negotiate terms." Alpha Thane's face grew even darker. "The only term I'll accept is you becoming mine." I laughed, filling the clearing with
CHAPTER 76 It was the first day of the full dark moon and I realised it was just counting. The moment meant for the war with strange beasts and we, the wolves had just started. I was seated with Angus, my wolf mate and what he could only do was caress me. "Angus!" I calmed him down, looking at him closely. "Why aren't you concerned about what might suddenly happen?" "When I am horny?" Angus reacted strangely, rolling his tongue lustfully. "I shouldn't be any concerned, my love.” "Angus, this isn't the time for your lustful desires!" I retorted, pushing him away gently. "We have a war to prepare for, lives to protect!" He chuckled, his golden eyes gleaming in the dim light of our den. "And what better way to protect lives than to ensure the continuation of our pack, my Luna?" He reached for me again, but I stood up, my patience wearing thin. "Angus, be serious!" I growled, my wolf instincts rising to the surface. "The dark moon brings out the worst in those creatures. We need
The following day was sweet, as well. But, I felt no change in my body. My wolf didn't come out of my body. I wondered but the feeling of sleeping with Angus, my husband that night was too sweet. Angus reached me, as if knowing each of my thoughts. "Are you ready for an outing in Arleta. Shall we go to a nearby bar?""Hmm, what of Eric, your friend?" I asked, concerned."No." Angus objected. "He can't be with us, seeing our tools. I will fuck you right there too.""Okay." I replied, firmly agreed to Angus as I kept staring at him. "I want doggy..." I purred, rubbing my body against his, feeling the familiar heat rise within me. He chuckled, a low, rumbling sound that vibrated through my core. "As you wish, my love. But first, let's have a drink, shall we?" He took my hand, his touch sending shivers down my spine. The anticipation was almost unbearable. I knew that tonight, under the Arletan sky, with the taste of alcohol on our lips, we would unleash a passion that would leave us bre
"I don't see you," I said, my heart pounding in my chest. "This isn't funny, Angus."A low growl reverberated through the air, and the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end. It wasn't Angus's voice, and it definitely wasn't human. The sound seemed to come from all directions, making it impossible to locate its source. Panic began to set in, and I spun around, desperately trying to find something familiar in the shifting shadows. Then I saw it. A pair of glowing eyes, burning like embers in the darkness. They were fixed on me, and I felt a primal fear grip me, paralyzing me in place. The growling intensified, and a dark shape began to emerge from the trees. It was large, muscular, and covered in thick fur. Its teeth were bared in a menacing snarl, and its eyes held a wild, predatory gleam. This was no ordinary animal. This was something else entirely. Something terrifying."Angus?" I whispered again, but I already knew it wasn't him. This creature, whatever it was, had taken his pl
At a nearby restaurant called Klingon bar, where Angus usually visited since we got here, in order to have some fun, and take his mind off worries, he stood and watched around, hoping he would meet Mr. Kenneth, who was his new adviser. As usual, I was around him to ensure he was doing well and nothing bothered him much. I stayed with Sarah, his friend at the bar. It had been two hours, Angus hadn't even heard of the man. Several peeping through his window didn't work, especially when he found out from Sarah that the man had travelled for a tour. Angus yawned. Sarah offered him a chair as usual, but not with any soft drink. He called her, talking to her as if he was joking. "Sarah! Won't you offer me a drink at least? I trust you for the delicious… orange juice." "Hmm…" Sarah returned, her response conveying the same thought as Angus's. "I think we have a small extra here, I'll be back soon." She entered to get one cup for him and arrived so quickly with a straw neatly pierced in i
It was a snowy day. Nothing happened yet. Suddenly, Angus's voice broke the silence. I was in the study room, overhearing Angus's complaints. "God!" Angus howled, not speaking to anybody, but to himself. "It's high time I found a job in this strange land. Why should everything be unclear?” "Perhaps New Hawkshire wasn't meant for you…" Mr. Cooper retorted, as he appeared suddenly from the dining room. "Oh, you are here, sir…" Angus whimpered, almost bowing. “What's the meaning of that?” "Keep it right there." Mr. Cooper reverted, his mind clearly rejecting Angus's greeting, and angry, because of the words he heard him say earlier. "Are you reporting me to God, or what? Whatever…! Just make sure you secure a job, and shamelessly make your own money, at least for once…" "Money?!" Angus interrupted him, almost rudely. He was getting frustrated and at that particular time, I walked in. "Dad, what's wrong again?" I questioned Mr. Cooper, who played the role of my father due to his w
Since we found ourselves in another land, we weren't settled yet. What bothered everyone mostly was the war.Angus sighed, waking up to the usually dull atmosphere, his mouth effusing cold breath as of an idle person. He didn't have any work to do, not even a reasonable duty. "Hi, Mr. Cooper!" He greeted the man he called his father-in-law, who had accommodated him in a family house. "Hope you slept well, Angus?" Mr. Cooper returned, closing and opening his eyes intermittently to shake off some dust off his face. "Yes, sir." Angus answered, hoping to escape and go outside to perhaps walk around. He feared Mr. Cooper's threat, especially whenever he was angry and was pointing at him, hurling potent words at him. "Come over…" Mr. Cooper interposed, not letting Angus move a step. "Have you ever seen the person you love today? Let me start from there." "Oh, sincerely…" Angus replied, trying to snub the right response. "But, she hasn't woken up. Lily often wakes up late, these days, s
