Chapter 3

Gordon had chosen the lab where we were to get the DNA test. Worried that I would somehow sabotage the results, he'd selected one of the most authoritative research labs in the country.

I scoffed at his choice. What a self-righteous man.

After taking blood samples from me, Ingrid, and Ella, I told the staff to test Gordon's blood as well.

Gordon looked at me in disbelief. "Have you lost your mind? There's no doubt that Ella is my daughter!"

I smiled slyly. "Come on. We're already here. Might as well get it done."

Ella didn't know why I was doing this, but she knew that I had a reason. Therefore, she threw a small tantrum and insisted that Gordon do the DNA test as well.

Since she was now Gordon's source of fortune, he agreed to her demands easily.

As we were leaving the lab, David appeared with a bouquet of flowers.

"Ella!" he cried warmly. He handed her the flowers and made to hug her.

Ella scrunched up her face in disgust and pushed him away. "Don't touch me."

David was about half a foot taller than Ella and pretty decent-looking.

"This is your brother, Ella," Ingrid said quickly. "You should treat your brother well. He's family!"

Ella rolled her eyes. "The test results aren't out yet, so let's not be hasty with this 'family' business."

"Well then, I'll leave you guys to your family bonding," I said indifferently. "Gordon, let's go to the courthouse now and finalize our divorce."

Since neither of us had any sizable assets to our names now nor child custody issues to address, it was very easy for us to finalize our divorce. All we had to do was sign the necessary paperwork and attend a quick court hearing to get our divorce decree.

Ingrid's eyes were wide the whole time. She was visibly delighted.

Clearly, she hadn't expected our divorce to go through so quickly. She'd probably thought that I would put up more of a resistance.

However, Ella was still standing firmly on my side. When she saw how close Ella was to me, she got jealous.

When Ella went to the parking lot to get our car, Ingrid finally found the chance to taunt me without her overhearing. "Gordon never loved you, Eden. Do you know how Ella got her name? That's because I chose the name and told Gordon to name her that!"

Gordon wrapped an arm around Ingrid and said arrogantly, "She'll come back to us once the DNA results are in."

David also dropped his harmless act and sneered, "All of your money belongs to Ella now. Once the test results are in, you'll end up homeless on the streets!"

I didn't even bother responding to their idiotic provocations.

When I didn't respond, Gordon assumed that he had won and finally revealed his true colors. "You've been controlling the Grant Corporation for so many years. It's my turn to take charge now!"

"I knew it. You were using Ella to get to the Grant Corporation," I said, smiling coldly.

"So what if I am?" Gordon said dismissively. "Now, all of your assets are under Ella's name. Once the DNA test results are out, I'll become the rightful owner of the Grant Corporation!"

"I'll wait, then," I said, giving him a cold look. "I want to see if you really have the fortune to lead the Grant Corporation."

They thought they'd planned this out and that victory was imminent, but they didn't realize that they'd already lost from the start.

While I was handing over my tasks at the company, David turned up at the company and kicked the general manager out of his own office.

He settled onto the leather chair and crossed his legs, telling everyone that he was the general manager since his sister was now the CEO.

Nobody dared to stop him, but I had no problem teaching him a lesson. "Throw him out," I ordered.

Several security guards stepped forward to remove him.

"How dare you touch me!" David leaped to his feet and began yelling at the guards. "My sister is the CEO! I am her biological brother! Don't you dare lay a hand on me, you dogs!"

He even insulted me. "You've been kicked out of the Grant family, you bitch! You have no right to order them around!"

As he yelled, he tried to shove the guards away, even attempting to hit me.

What a wretch!

Just then, Ella arrived.

"What's going on?" she asked, her expression cold.

"You're just in time, Ella!" David immediately adopted a pitiful look. "This bitch is trying to kick me out of the company!"

"This is a workplace, not a place for you to act out," Ella said coldly. "I'm also not your sister, so don't call me by my name."

"Ella, how can you talk to your brother like that?" Ingrid had arrived as well. "You're siblings by blood. Your brother will be helping you manage the company from now on. Without family support, you'll be vulnerable."

Ella scoffed. "Throw them both out!"

Seeing that persuasion was not the way to go, Ingrid quickly changed tack and resorted to throwing a tantrum, refusing to let the guards touch her. "I am the wife of the heir of the company and Ella's mother! I own this company too!"

I scoffed. "Throw them out. Don't let them taint the company's reputation."

The guards now knew who was truly in charge. They picked the pair up without hesitation and dragged them away.

As she went, Ingrid screamed, "Just you wait, Eden Bergman! Once the DNA test results are in, I'll make you beg for mercy!"

I stared after her pathetic exit and said calmly, "Don't worry. I'm waiting for the test results too."
