Jason's POV

“Because you are my mate.”

I wanted to say but there was no way a human would understand.

She couldn't understand the raging need that plagued my wolf since I had laid my eyes on her.

He had begging to be let loose. To start a howling session.

But as I stared down at her, there was no way I could tell her.

So I said something else.

“Because I want to make an offer.” I said, looking into her eyes.

Oh Elissa, if only you knew the damn thing you were doing to me.

“What offer?” Her sultry voice came out and my eyes narrowed.

“It's better I tell you, when you are more clear minded.”

I took her hand, willing myself to ignore the clawing of Lewdrake, my wolf.

He wanted to pounce and take all of her.

“Elissa. I need to take you home.”

Before I do something I'd regret.

Her expression became hooded and she turned away.

A second later, she brought her hands to her eyes.

She was crying.

“I don't want to go there.” Her voice came out broken, and it shattered my heart along with it.

I could smell fear and it was the last thing I wanted to see.

“Let's go.”

Pulling her, I walked to my car. “I'm taking you to my place, and you can't run away this time.”

It was a bad idea and I knew that.

But this time, I'd be under control.

As the Alpha of my pack, control was what I led my life with.

But I hadn't even found my mate. What if I lost?

Elissa didn't struggle and she walked quietly behind me.

The theft scene.

It was Vanessa.

My wolf could smell the lie from her.

I chuckled. Joe was such a fool, and he was one of our star players.

I buckled Elissa into the front seat.

“I'm sorry, Jason. For how I yelled at you back there.” Her tiny voice came out, as she adjusted her glasses.

But the alcohol made her clumsy.

The action made me smile.

And my body moved forward. But I stopped.

“Not now, Jason. She does not know about the bond. You don't want them to kill her.” Lewdrake’s voice echoed in my head.

I gripped the steering wheel tighter.

Curse those rogues.

To think they had followed me to the human world.

“It's fine Elissa. I'm not angry. I don't want to see you hurt.” I said, focusing on the road.

I could feel her gaze on me but I didn't want to say anything.

The drive to my house was unnecessarily long and my phone was almost broken with calls.

It was expected, since I had left the club unannounced.

By the time I had arrived at the house, Elissa was fast asleep.

I lifted her, ensuring she wouldn't wake.

Or my thirst wouldn't wake and I'd be forced to do something else.

“You must enjoy torturing me, Elissa.” I chuckled but she only shifted closer to my body.

I walked inside, “Alfred, I need you to prepare an extra room. Please make sure it's clean and have breakfast prepared very early in the morning.”

Looking at my mate in my arms, I shook my head, “Also prepare some hang over medicine.”

Alfred walked out of this room, and for a split second, his eyes settled on the woman.

Without saying a word, he headed back to work.

The front door swung open and my eyes sharpened.

“Relax bro, it's me.” Ralph said, locking the door. He must have felt my blood lust.

He turned around and his eyes widened.

“The nerd? Doesn't she help coach plan the hockey formations? What are you doing with her?”

A growl escaped my lips, “Don't call her that.”

A quick sense of realisation appeared on his face. “She's your mate.” He said the obvious, “Jason, she's human.”

“I know that, Ralph.” I said, baring my fangs. “It's not my fault that the moon goddess think this is funny.”

He ignored my sarcasm and took a seat. “Would you accept it?”

A laughter escaped my lips, “If I don't, I'd die.”

“If you do, she'd die.” He retorted.

A tired sigh escaped my lips. “I don't know.”

Ralph's eyes landed on her again, and a small sense of jealousy rose from my chest.

“Stop looking at her like that, man.” I said, turning away.

“Tch. You know she's going to be in trouble if she sticks with you.” He said, and my brow went up in confusion.

“No one would dare touch her.”

Ralph chuckled, “And Tracy? How do you think she'd take it?”

Tracy? She was insignificant. And there was nothing she could do.

“She better make peace with it and respect my choices.” I said, “She knows her place already.”

A mere side character in my life has nothing to do with me.

“And Elissa?” Ralph's voice dropped low. “Werewolves only exist in fantasy books. She's going to break.”

The urge to send him out of this place rose. But he was my beta and he knew better than anyone else what I needed to hear.

Nothing but the truth.

My eyes fell on Elissa, and I moved the loose strands of her hair away from her face.

“I'm not planning to tell her.” I answered, “At least not yet.”

Hearing my words, Ralph let out a chuckle.

It was like we both knew what was going to happen in the end.

But I didn't care.

She was my mate, and I was going to give my life for her.

Instead, a strange image flashed through my mind. "What..." I frowned. Golden eyes? I rubbed my face and let out a nervous laugh. The room was exactly as I'd left it. Books were scattered across my study table. My backpack lay on the floor where I'd dropped it the day before. Everything looked normal. Too normal. Then why couldn't I remember coming home.
