Incoming Luna

Long after the Alpha left the infirmary, Sam had looked for a secluded place to cry her heart.

Everything that took place and how the people had watched afterward flashed before her eyes.

Now she was afraid that they would look at her like a slave rather than their equal. And she was supposed to be their Luna.

She was in the infirmary bathroom still crying her out, when someone knocked.

Her heart lurched and she worked to steady her ragged breathing as well as regain her emotional poise. She had come here for privacy. Why would they not just allow her a few minutes to herself?

Don’t forget you are a slave. The thought flitted by.

Unlatching the lock with quivering hands, Sam opened the door and looked out. “Hy,” she mewled. It was the girl she had met previously in the nursery. She stood there peering at Sam with something that Sam could discern as pity etched in her eyes.

Realizing she was acting creepy, the girl stuttered on her feet and cleared her throat. “Are you crying?...” then she pinched her eyes closed, her hand going to her forehead, “Forgive my absurd question. Of course, you are crying.” She gestured to Sam’s red-rimmed eyes. “I am so sorry for what happened back there. The Alpha can be very mean at times. We fear him on this si___” she faltered, maybe comprehending that she was talking ill of her leader, quickly retracted.

“Mrs. Berkeley said you should meet her in the left-wing. In her office,” she said instead.

Sam’s head was already bouncing, hoping the girl leaves her on time. “I will be there in a minute. Let me just…clean up,” she said while looking down, not wanting to see the look of apathy on the girl’s face for her.

“Okay, I will let her know. Take as much time as you want. I gat you.” With that the girl walked down the empty hall, leaving Sam staring after her still in poor spirit.

Not long, Sam had to wash her face to conceal any evidence of her lamentation and strolled in the direction the girl had given her.

“Hy, Mrs. Berkely, I was told you called for me,” Sam informed the older woman the minute she walked into her compatible office.

Mrs. Berkely looked up from the file she was addressing, her face lighting up when she saw Sam. “Go ahead and make yourself comfortable,” she gestures at the chair in front of her.

Sam was of double mind. Why is the woman being this kind to her instead of treating her like a slave as has been instructed? Don’t get ahead of yourself Samantha. She hasn’t even said anything. Maybe she is waiting to strike. She concluded within.

So far today, Mrs. Berkely has been dangling between kindness and haughty. Sam couldn’t discern where to place the woman’s personality.

“Thanks,” Sam mumbled, her butt finding the seat, and looked up.

If the woman noticed anything off about Sam, she didn’t say. She went ahead with what she had to say, “I noticed you haven’t been busy since the Alpha left, so I had to ask to see you.”

“Uhm…I’m sorry Ma. I had simply gone to use the restroom.”

“It’s alright. I must confess I am a little bit put off with what the Alpha did and I must tell you I am not in concurrence with it.” Sam’s eyes expanded.

“However, I am just a mere nurse here. Not the main director like Theo. So I can do little to nothing about it. I just want to let you know that you will have to work hard so that the director won’t have to notice any relapse. He is hardly here, so you have nothing to worry about,”

Sam was still striving to comprehend why the woman was trying to help her. She is the second in command here and should be hostile with her, making sure she abides by the Alpha’s rules.

“That’s all for now, Samantha. You can assist Charity at the nursery “

Sam stood, her hand still secured in front of her. “Thank you very much, ma. I appreciate “ “It’s nothing.”

Sam nodded and strutted out of the office to locate the nursery. She didn’t know who was Charity but wasn’t bothered since she would just have to ask anyone there.

The day was turning out wretched just as she had imagined it. And she hasn’t even had any proper food, still.

When evening came, and Sam was dismissed for the day, she left with the strict instruction to resume by 7: 00 the next day.

On her way home, she met with the girl from the morning that has brought her to the infirmary.

“I’m sorry I was late. That impish Alpha of ours won’t let us rest from running about the place, just because of the arrangement for the incoming Luna.”

Sam’s ears perked up. “Incoming Luna?” she queried, her thoughts going to what the Alpha had said yesterday before she left.

“Yea, that uncouth Lady Paisley is to be initiated as the Luna. I don’t understand why though. It’s not anyone likes her,” she shrugged, as they neared the house.

“So when is the ceremony?”

“From the preparations, I will say it’s very near. The Alpha wasn’t looking like he was in a haste before. I don’t know why he became like that since he came home from the mission,”

Sam recalled the incident of the first meeting with her mate and instantly became more curious.

“About that, what really happened? What mission did he come back from?”

The girl’s eyes twitched as she discovered she has spewed more than required. She shook her head and increased her step, “It’s nothing to worry about. For your own good don’t ask such questions to the hearing if the big ranks if you want to live long,”

Sam walked after her in confusion. Why was the girl suddenly defensive? She had merely asked a harmless question why the fight?

Why is everyone acting weird when it comes to questions pertaining to the Alpha? She pondered.

They soon got home and the girl followed her until Sam was in front of her room. She was very tired and needed sleep.

“Get your rest, the Beta said I should pick you up by 8:30 this night. I will bring you a new dress and prepare you like the last time,” she gave Sam a pitiful smile and sauntered off.

Sam was more than pissed. She is fatigued from running about today. She has hardly sat down more than a minute to rest, and yet she had to appease the Alpha this night.

After he humiliated her in public.

Tears gathered at the idea of her helplessness. She couldn’t even tell anyone that he was her mate. What would they say? They would laugh at her face and call her absurd.

It totally skipped her mind about tonight. And now she was tired and famished.
