She Is A Slave

The infirmary was in an uproar as everyone jostled about in absolute somberness following the news of the visitation of the Alpha.

Everyone was on their best behavior as had been instructed by the head of the infirmary Theodore. He had called them shortly after Mr. Berkley had instructed Sam to clean one of the rooms of the wards.

The rule was simple to make sure the nurses and Doctors had the place running properly… No speck. No dust.

Everyone had been surprised to see Dr. Theodore coming to the hospital after a long week He hardly comes to the infirmary. This meant that this was very important and no one wanted to be a scapegoat.

Sam who just finished scrubbing the ward she had been assigned to, was rushing out of the packing store where she dropped the cleaning equipment when she nearly collided with someone.

She quickly righted herself and staggered back, “I am sorry Sir,” cried Sam, smoothing her hand on her gown. She looked up subtly and flinched back in apprehension as her eyes met with that of Dr. Theodore’s.

“Who are you?” he asked in a clipped tone.

“I…I…”

“That’s our new assistant, Dr. Theodore,” provided Mrs. Berkeley, appearing instantly beside Sam. “She came in this morning and I was waiting to introduce her later. She would be helping with the pups and the aged pack members,”

Sam looked down at her hands as she noticed the unwavering scrutiny of the haughty-looking man.

“I see, bring her to my office for proper documentation once the Alpha leaves. That is if he comes,” he mumbled the last line, his eyes still pinned at Sam, before walking away.

“What were you thinking falling into his path?” Mrs. Berkley addressed Sam once he was out of earshot.

“I…I…I”

“Just get to work. Do something. Anything. He doesn’t like seeing people running about idle,” Mrs. Berkley said referring to Dr. Theodore.

Sam nodded and scurried away wondering what she should do next.

After lurking around the halls for the umpteenth time, Sam eventually located the children’s room and went in to help one of the hands there.

They all gaped at her as she walked in, obviously not familiar with her. She cringed within brow beating herself for coming in here in the first place. Since morning, she has been engaging in other things all in a bid to avoid here. Now she has finally made it here.

“Hi,” she waved at one of the girls as she drew near.

“Hi, you are new here?” the girl asked picking one of the pups in her arms.

Sam’s eyes followed the movement with uttermost amusement. “Yes, I just came in this morning.”

“Oh, when did you come into the pack,”

“I…I am the Al_”

“What are you two doing?” Mrs. Berkeley materialized from nowhere disrupting their chat. “Sam, follow immediately “ she was, out as she had come in

Sam exhaled loudly, smacking her head in worry as she followed the woman after giving the girl a poor pathetic smile for almost getting her in trouble. She didn’t even get to know her name. She fretted.

“You will have to attend to Mrs. Carpenter as she woke up and wouldn’t stop causing a fiasco. She always does that when she needs attention. So go and keep her busy Anyhow you can do that. Thanks.” She waved off Sam and sauntered off hurriedly

“Dear, Gad. Why does that cold of a man have to visit today of all days? He should have just let me settle in first before already working to plunge me into misery,” she complained as walked towards the ward she has just scrubbed a few minutes ago.

As she made to corner the ward, she ran smack into a hard chest. A hand reached out and tipped her away, and her eyes widened when they met that of Dr. Theodore once more.

“What are you going here?” he asked her, seemingly irritated.

“I was going to one of the patient’s wards. I’m sorry for running into you,” she shook her hand at him and made to escape.

“Stop!” he hollered, and Sam slowly twisted about to face him. “You can go,” he said through tight lips, his fist balling by his side.

Sam didn’t need another order before disappearing into the patient’s ward.

A few minutes later.

The door to the ward’s room swung open. “The Alpha is here and he asked to see you,” came the voice of Mrs. Berkeley. She sounded agitated.

“Me?” Sam asked equally flustered.

“Yea, for some reasons beyond me, he said he wanted to see the newest person in the facility. He was so intent on knowing what you have been doing since you came here,”

Sam smiled nodded and looked at Mrs. Carpenter, the aged woman who she has managed to quell down her at tantrums. The latter was already feeling drowsy, so she bent to kiss her brow and followed Mrs. Berkeley out.

Her hands kept smoothing on her gown as they walked down the hall.

Panning out, she was amazed at the number of people she saw standing at the reception listening to someone. Someone who stopped talking the moment he noticed her.

Sam’s face fell to the ground, fear gripping her as she thought of the worst thing he could do to her in front of these people. None of them knew her true identity, not that they had asked anyways apart from the girl she met at the nursery.

Would he declare her his slave before them and made them suffer her? She thought in trepidation.

Her movement became rigid as she neared him. She also noticed his eyes were very intent on hers as if every other person in the facility stopped existing the second she entered.

Standing in front of him, she slowly raised her eyes to meet his, they were bearing his signature scowl. No hint of a smile. His fist was knotted by his side as his brows creased in outward rage.

“What was she doing in there?” he asked Mrs. Berkeley in a hardened voice his eyes not leaving hers.

Mrs. Berkeley rushed forward, “She was attending to a patient, Alpha, in one of the wards,”

He growled, his eyes diverting from Sam to meet Mrs. Berkeley who instantly blanched in fear. “When did she become a Doctor?”

Mrs. Berkeley made to say something but at the lifting of his fingers, she abruptly shut her mouth, her eyes finding her feet. He faced Dr. Theodore with a profound furious visage, “She is a slave. And slaves work hard. She was brought here to do the menial work as the Omega slave she is. Make that happen. The next time I come here, I should meet her scrubbing the ground, with sweats falling down her face, showing she is working hard enough, than doing some damn doctor duties! Or,” the threat in his eyes could be read without the use of spectacles.

“You know very well what I’m capable of,” with that, he whirled around and stormed out of the infirmary, leaving Sam standing there as hot tears pooled at her eyes and tumbled down her face as reality hit on her. He was bent on destroying her. Her life just spiraled to a zero in front of her.

Is this what it means to have your heart shattered? She grieved.
