TRIGGER WARNING: MENTION OF SUICIDEElena POV“Can you give it to me when you’re done?” A low voice suddenly sounded right next to my ear.I looked around carefully but there was no one else in the cell with me. “Give what?” I asked, almost certain that I was now hearing things.“I saw your tray. They removed every sharp object you could have used to harm yourself but you aren’t even worried.” The voice continued. “It’s obvious you have something hidden already. Can you pass it to me when you’re done?”Unlike my initial assumption, the voice was real and it was coming from the wall behind me.I tried not to let the worry show in my voice. Was she going to tell Lucas? “Why not use yours?”After a prolonged dry chuckle, the woman’s voice sounded again. “You think everyone’s like you? Some of us have to eat with our bare hands.”I pushed away my surprise at her words and forced my voice to remain calm. “Why do you think I’m planning to hurt myself?”“It sounded that way earlier.” She sa
TRIGGER WARNING: MENTION OF SUICIDE Elena POV Half asleep, I burrowed deeper into the blanket but no matter how much I turned, it never seemed to cover me fully. “Draven,” I called drowsily after a few more seconds, “I’m cold.” When the blanket didn’t magically fix itself around me and no thick arm reached to pull me closer to a warm chest, I opened my eyes, blinking in confusion at the unfamiliar walls around me. Right. My breath caught in my throat as the memories came rushing in, washing away every bit of sleep from my eyes. He’s gone. My hands held on tightly to the blanket. I shouldn’t have opened my eyes. I should have continued sleeping. Maybe then I would have been able to dream of him. In the middle of my daily round of self pity, I heard footsteps. Quickly, I closed my eyes and calmed my breathing before the person could get close enough to see that I wasn’t sleeping. A short while later, the person moved away as if they’d only come to check who I’d been talking to.
Draven POVThe doctor rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. “Weusuallykeepasparekeyoutside.”“Huh?” I raised an eyebrow at him. “Speak English.”“The intern kept losing the key whenever he took it home.” He said, looking away. “So I started keeping a spare key outside under a potted plant. They must have been watching us for longer than I’d thought for them to have noticed it.”“How careless.” I muttered. “How would you have fought the four of them off alone if Jon and I hadn’t come here today?”“I guess that’s why you’re here then.” He said, smiling broadly. “Consider the bill for your consultation settled.”I shook my head and looked down at Jon, his face was still pale but he looked a bit more relaxed. “What do you need me to do?”***********************“Is there really no way to restore my vision?” I asked the doctor in a low voice. “Even if just for a short while. It’s important.”He was in the middle of slowly shaking his head when an irritated look appeared on his face. He t
Elena POVThe shouts and cries of the pack members faded out from behind me as the warriors hurried me towards… I looked up, the council hall. It hadn’t even been fifteen minutes since I’d last been in the hall and yet within those few short minutes, it felt like everything in my life had changed. Once again.Despite all I’d seen and heard within the last few minutes, despite the confusion that swirled in my mind like vicious fog, my hands didn’t tremble. They were far too busy clutching the sides of my dress.Crash! In the split second between hearing the unmistakeable sound of metal hitting the floor and searching for the source of the noise, a body pushed roughly against mine only to be thrown back out by the encirclement of warriors that immediately grew tighter around me.“What do you think you’re doing?” One of the warriors bellowed at the intruding servant after a quick check at me to ensure I was still in one piece. The servant, hearing the plain anger in his voice promptly d
Elena POVSeveral pack members exchanged glances with each other, mumbling a few words between themselves. Then a sharp voice broke out from amongst them.“Something else?” The pack member raised his voice. He looked big enough to be an Alpha, but from that distance, I wasn’t sure. “What else could kill without rhyme or reason if not rogues? Is the palace trying to avoid taking responsibility for what’s happened to us? What were the warriors doing that they allowed rogues to come into the capital?”“We’re not trying to avoid taking responsibility.” I said softly. “But we still have to investigate properly and find out where the problem is coming from, otherwise it might end up affecting more people. As beta Lucas has said, this isn’t the work of rogues.”“If even the palace doesn’t know what caused it,” another omega said as she dropped to the floor, tears streaming down her face, “then what hope is there for the rest of us? Where can we go to get justice?”“He kept saying we should
Elena POV“A riot?” I stood up immediately, my heart pounding in my throat. “Is it from the reporters? Have they come to bother us again?”“No.” The warrior said as he shook his head vigorously. “Not reporters. There are several pack members at the gates and they’re all screaming to be let inside. It’s getting harder to keep them out without hurting them. As we speak, some of them may have even made their way inside.”“Let’s go.” I said even as a sickening feeling took over my stomach. “Take me there.”Before I got close to the warrior, Lucas appeared at my side, his voice low and his face full of worry. “Are you sure Luna? We don’t know what’s happening out there yet. Maybe you should wait here for me to investigate first and make sure it’s safe.”“No.” I shook my head immediately. “Would Draven sit back if he were here?”A helpless look came over his face. “He wouldn’t but—““Then I won’t either.” I cut in. “But you don’t even want this position.” He whispered, lowering his voice
TRIGGER WARNINGS; MENTIONS OF SA, SUICIDE Elena POV I stared at him not quite trusting my ears, “it happened in front of the pack? The whole pack?” Logan must have heard something in my voice because his gaze immediately shifted between Kane’s and mine as if he was searching for some proof that
Elena POV He took one look at me and his face darkened as he found his answer, “it is.” Cursing quietly, he walked faster, “how is this even possible? You were supposed to have it at eighteen.” “Well,” I started, but he immediately cut in. “Stop talking,” he growled, as he kicked open a door,
Draven POV I hated it. The pristine halls full of families with dull faces as they talked in low tones. The way their shoulders hunched into their chests as they waited on benches for the doctor’s diagnosis. I hated it. The sterile air that plagued the hallways and the smell of disinfecta
Elena POV My eyes trailed down to my wrist, my bare wrist. More than a week had passed since the bracelet broke and I hadn’t had any episodes or any pain since then. Which was… a good thing. But I just couldn’t stop thinking about it, what if my powers suddenly flare up out of the blue again? O
