Chapter 52| Visions of fire

Blood, sweat, tears. All of a sudden, I could taste all three of them at the tip of my tongue.

I was in darkness. The air around me was thick, and strange, eerie sounds filled the space. Birds chirping from a distance, owls howling. I was alone in the darkness with the three poignant tastes in my mouth, sweating profusely, I continued to look around.

My heart pounded in my chest as I stood there, trying to make sense of where I was. I had never been in anything like it before.

Suddenly, a large fire blazed up in the middle of the forest.

Then I saw her—Lillie. She lay on the ground, naked and weak. The sides of her head were bruised, and both her hands were stretched out, as though she had been hit while trying to crawl. My breath hitched in my throat as my eyes widened in shock.
