Selene's POV

Unsettled.

The morning sun filters through the window, spilling on my face. My eyelids fluttered first like a trap bird, then I rolled over to the other side of the bed.

No matter how much I tried, Lucian's face wouldn't leave my mind, the look in his eyes stayed with me.

“That's fine with me," he had said when I told him I rejected whatever I was feeling.

Kael and Kieran say he's dangerous and can't be trusted, my experience with Tyler taught me never to trust easily, but Lucian

SELENEThe moment we crossed into Tyler's pack, I knew things were different. The road was familiar enough that I recognized some of the buildings, but everything felt strangely distant now. I remembered traveling these same roads years ago, sitting quietly while people passed by without giving me a second glance. This time, people stopped to stare. Some stepped out of shops, others stood in their doorways, and whispers followed our car as we moved through the main street.“Are they all staring?” Kieran asked from the front.“Yes,” I answered.“I noticed.”Kael glanced at him through the rearview mirror. “Don't start anything.”“I haven't done anything.”“You're thinking about it.”Kieran laughed, but I couldn't. My stomach was too tight. I knew they were wondering why we were there, and some of them probably recognized me. Others might have only heard the stories about me, but either way, I could feel their eyes following us until we finally reached the pack house. The gates opened i

SELENE“Okay. I agree.”Tyler's answer came so quickly that I almost thought I had heard him wrong. He straightened, his expression serious as he looked directly at me.“I'll do it. I'll tell them the truth. I'll tell everyone what happened, and I'll make Helena, Marcus, and Amelia do the same.”I studied his face for a moment, trying to see whether he was saying it because he had no other choice or because he genuinely meant it.Either way, I had my answer.“Good.”Tyler released a breath and nodded. “Then we should leave immediately.”Kieran frowned. “Immediately?”“Yes.” Tyler looked between us. “The pack needs help. Every day matters.”“I know,” I said.“Then I'll take you back with me today.”Before I could answer, Kael stepped forward.“No.”Tyler looked at him.“No?” he repeated.“We're not leaving today.”Tyler's brows pulled together. “Kael, there's a plague spreading through my pack.”“And rushing Selene into the middle of it won't make the plague disappear faster.”Tyler op

SELENEI stared at all of them, but no answer came.Tyler was still standing in front of me, waiting for something I wasn't ready to give him. His face looked exhausted, and for the first time, I could see genuine fear in his eyes. Not fear for himself. Fear for the people he had left behind.Kael, Kieran, and Lucien were watching me too, but none of them tried to speak for me.They knew this was my decision.Part of me wanted to say no immediately.I wanted to tell Tyler that his problems were no longer mine. His pack had nothing to do with me, and after everything he had done, I had every reason to turn around and walk away. He had stood by while my life was destroyed. He had believed the lies about me. He had watched me get taken away and never came looking for the truth. Why should I care what happened to him now?I looked at him again. Then I remembered what he had said. The children are sick.My chest tightened.I swallowed and looked down at our joined hands before finally pull

SELENEI stared at the man standing in the doorway, my heart pounding so hard I could barely hear anything else. For a moment, I couldn't make sense of what I was seeing. His clothes were damp from the rain, his shoulders were tense, and his face was partly hidden by the darkness in the hallway. Then he stepped closer. The light from the sitting room fell across his face.My breath caught.“Tyler.”The name left my mouth before I could stop it.Kieran went completely still on the couch, the bowl of popcorn forgotten in his hands. Kael's expression hardened immediately, and he took a step forward like he was already deciding whether to throw Tyler out himself, while Lucien's arm tightened around me without me even having to ask.None of us had expected to see him standing there, especially not after everything that had happened.Tyler didn't say anything at first. He just looked at me, his eyes red and unfocused, like he'd been walking in that rain for hours. And then, to my surprise,

SELENE“I’m not moving.”I dropped onto the couch the moment we got back, kicking my shoes off without bothering to place them properly. My legs were sore, my hair was a mess, and somehow Kieran still had enough energy to carry the ridiculous giant teddy bear he had won all the way from the amusement park.“You said that ten minutes ago,” Kieran said, walking past me with the bear blocking half his face. “Yet here you are, still talking.”“I’m allowed to talk while not moving.”Kael looked over from where he was taking off his jacket. “You look exhausted.”“I am exhausted.”“That was the point of today,” Kieran said. “To exhaust her.”I gave him a tired look. “You were the one screaming louder than me on the roller coaster.”“I was expressing myself.”“You were screaming.”“So were you.”“I had a reason. I thought I was going to die.”Kieran dropped the teddy bear onto the couch beside me. It practically swallowed the entire seat. “You’re dramatic.”I stared at him. “You screamed when

SELENEBy the time we reached the market, I could already hear the noise from the square. It wasn't the usual afternoon bustle. The vendors were still calling out to customers, but their voices kept getting drowned out by the crowd gathered near the center. People had stopped what they were doing to watch whatever was happening there, and even from the restaurant entrance, I could tell something was wrong.I slowed beside the window, trying to see past the people packed around the road.“What is everyone looking at?” I asked.Kieran came up behind me, but instead of answering immediately, he glanced through the window himself. Kael stood on my other side, his expression unreadable as he watched the crowd. Lucien remained close enough that his arm brushed mine whenever either of us moved.I looked at Kieran. “You knew there would be a crowd.”He sighed. “I had a feeling.”“A feeling?”“I heard Amelia was around the market this morning. She'd already been asking questions and making a s
