LOGINI've been working all day.
The cleaner hadn't shown up in three days, and Anna had been around, so the house was a mess.
I had to clean.
It was just me in the house. Anna had gone to see her mom, and Essa had left yesterday.
I had cleaned all the rooms upstairs and was heading downstairs to the kitchen when I saw someone in the living room.
I was startled and slipped.
Thank God for the handrail. I would have ended up with a broken waist.
“Are you okay? You should be more careful,” Anthony said.
“I was careful. It's just that you startled me.”
He stared at me, and I could see it in his eyes that he wanted to apologize, but his ego wouldn't let him.
Anthony was back from work earlier than usual.
I didn't know why. I wanted to ask, but then I remembered. He's the CEO, so he can go and come back whenever he wants.
I headed straight to the kitchen. I had to clean quickly because I had a dinner date by seven.
I had accepted to go on a dinner date with Jason.
Anthony followed me almost immediately.
“Why are you the one cleaning?”
“The cleaner hasn't shown up for some days, so I had to do it myself.”
“She’s fired. Find someone else.”
“Just like that? What if she's sick?”
“Suit yourself. Hire someone else, or keep stressing yourself while you wait for her. Just please make sure my house remains tidy.”
He left after grabbing a bottle of water.
But for real, I had to find out her reasons. Whatever it was, this wasn't my job description.
Later, I was done with everything, and it was time to get ready for the date.
I freshened up and got dressed.
I loved my outfit so much. It was a short, sleeveless red dress. Simple but classy.
I just hoped Anthony wouldn't see me going out and start asking questions. It was worse today because Anna wouldn't be there to help me out.
Fortunately for me, when I came downstairs, he wasn't there. His car wasn't outside either, so I guessed he wasn't home anymore.
I opened the door to head out and, alas...
My mom.
What the hell was she doing here? How did she even know where I stayed?
“Hi, Mom,” I said hesitantly.
“Hi to you too, Emma. What are you doing here?”
I scoffed.
“I should be asking you that.”
“Emma, where is your child, and how did you get here?”
“With all due respect, Ma, that's none of your business. It's not like you care. And keep your voice down.”
I walked past her before she could say anything else.
Thank God nobody was home, or else I would have had to explain why I had a woman disturbing the peace of the house and asking about my child.
I drove myself to the restaurant.
Jason was already waiting for me.
“Hi, I'm sorry I'm a bit late.”
“It's fine. You look amazing,” he said with a smile.
“Thank you. You're looking good as well.”
We ordered some food and started eating.
We had conversations—funny ones, serious ones, and even awkward ones.
For a while, I actually forgot about everything else.
“You should come to my studio sometime.”
“Are you inviting me to your studio?”
“Fine. I'd love for you to come to my studio,” he replied.
“I'll think about it.”
Jason was nice and calm too, and kinda fine too, but not as good-looking as Anthony.
Why was I even comparing them?
It was obvious Jason didn't want to be just friends, but I had to wait until he spilled his intentions first.
Dinner ended nicely, and I enjoyed it.
On my way home, the car started jerking.
“No way.”
I didn't have the slightest idea how to fix anything in a car, and this car just had to break down right now.
I stood beside the car, contemplating what to do, when a car pulled over.
It looked like Anthony's.
He wound down his window.
“So, your date couldn't make sure you got home safely?”
How did he know about the dinner?
I hadn't said anything.
“Come in. Let's go home. I'll call the driver to take care of the car.”
I entered the car and sat beside him.
“Next time, go on dates with intentional men,” he said, throwing me a glance.
I took a deep breath.
We got home to a man standing in front of the door.
“How can I help you?” Anthony asked.
“Um, I didn't mean to disturb you. I'm looking for Essa.”
Anthony frowned and signaled for him to continue talking.
“She's my girlfriend. Well, she was, actually, because she broke up with me a week ago.”
Anthony and I looked at each other.
“She's pregnant with my baby, and she broke up with me immediately after I found out. She said she can't raise a baby with me. I'm here because I asked some people to trace her, and they found out she comes here often,” the man explained.
“So, if I'm getting you right, Essa is carrying your baby, and you've been looking for her?” Anthony asked.
“Yes. I need to know where she is. I can't let her get rid of the child, so please…”
Anthony was dumbfounded.
He didn't say anything else to the man. He just went inside.
“Essa does come here, but she doesn't live here. You can give me your contact, and I'll call you the next time she comes,” I offered.
I took the man's contact, and he
left.
So, in simple terms, Essa is playing two men at the same time, and now she's pregnant for one and trying to pin it on the other.
Damn.
This is messy.
Days passed, and we tried to keep our relationship professional. But there were still awkward moments because, no matter how much we tried, we'd already crossed a line. That morning, I woke up to Anthony knocking on my door.I opened it.“My PA is taking two days of sick leave. I'll need you to follow me to the office today and tomorrow,” he said, his arms crossed.“That’s not in my job description,” I blurted out immediately.“I’ll add something to your salary at the end of the month,” he replied, looking me straight in the eyes.I didn't respond.I mean, that's more money, right? He took my silence as a yes.“Get ready. We'll be leaving in thirty.”He turned, and I shut the door.Oh God. I had just woken up, and now I was supposed to get ready in thirty minutes.I got ready anyway, taking an extra ten minutes._We drove to the office in his car.The building was big. Really big.The Williams Empire dominated the business world—real estate, high-end restaurants and hotels, technolog
Later that night, I came downstairs to the kitchen to get some water.I hadn't seen Anthony since earlier that day, and I hoped it would continue that way.I walked quietly into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge. Then I caught the scent of his cologne.I froze.I turned around, and there he was, standing in the doorway.Grey joggers. White singlet.I immediately looked away and tried to leave the kitchen, but he gently caught my wrist and pulled me back.He placed both hands on the counter, leaving me standing between them."You've been avoiding me," he said, stepping closer.I swallowed."I haven't."He looked directly into my eyes, but I couldn't hold his gaze."You have. Since the kiss."I didn't respond. He took another step, closing the little space between us.For a moment, neither of us said anything. Then he looked at me."God, Emma. You're so beautiful."My heart started racing.I opened my mouth, but no words came out.Gosh, this man had too much of a
Lisa told me over the phone that they were in the hospital.I left and rushed to the hospital immediately.Thankfully, it was a minor accident.Jayden had slipped and fallen in the bathroom, but he was okay now. The doctor said he could go home in the morning.Lisa agreed to stay with him while I went home.As soon as I reached the door, the next thing that came to my mind was the party. Then the elevator. The kiss.I went inside the house, and just as I had hoped, Anthony was already in his room.I quietly went to my room, showered, and got ready to sleep. But each time I tried to shut my eyes, the scene of that kiss came back to me.I knew I had felt something when he kissed me, but whatever it was, I couldn't let it grow stronger.I buried my face in the pillow, wishing it could smother the memory._I woke up earlier than usual the next morning. The plan was to make breakfast, set the table, then retire to my room before he came down. After what happened last night, all I wanted t
The next day, Anna sent me an address to a restaurant where I was supposed to meet her during the day.She was already there before me.“Hey, girl,” I said as I sat down.“You're right on time,” she replied.“Shouldn't you be planning your party? Why did you ask me to come here?” I asked.“Girl, relax. I've got someone doing that. I wanted you to come here so we can make our choice of outfits.”I raised my eyebrows. “You don't have your outfit ready?”“No.”“You know, Anna, you could host a simple party. Just drinks, you know, nothing loud.”“There's no fun in that.”“Girl, you are always looking for a reason to throw a party. Well, this one is worth it. I'm proud of you.”I ordered a drink while we scrolled through fashion pages.“But Anna, how are we going to get these dresses delivered before evening?”“Don't worry. The more the cash, the faster the delivery.”Anna and I never had the same opinion about any dress we chose. She kept complaining.“Nah, this one is too lengthy.”“Look
Essa lightened up the moment she saw Anthony.Apparently, she had come to surprise him with test results showing she was pregnant.I couldn't stop laughing in my room. She was now the one surprised to see her cover had been blown.Anthony didn't raise his voice. He quietly asked her to leave his house.Essa didn't argue. After much apology and explanation that fell on deaf ears, she eventually left.I was really hoping she'd claim Anthony was wrong and prove her faithfulness. But that's not how betrayal works. It feels like you're dreaming at first, but eventually, you'll accept it as reality.Anthony left the house after their conversation, leaving just me alone in the house.Minutes turned into hours, and night came.Still, Anthony wasn't home.I had prepared dinner and was waiting for him to get back. I sat on the couch in the living room, watching a movie while waiting for him. From the little while I've lived here, I could tell Anthony didn't keep late nights.I could have gone t
I got a reminder notification on my phone.Today, I had to go and see my son and spend some time with him.I handled a few things around the house before heading out.“Hey, Jayden,” I said with a smile. He turned and saw me, then immediately stood up from the ground where he had been playing with his toys.“Mummy!” he shouted as he ran into my arms.I hugged him so tight. He was looking good and healthy.“Aunty Lisa has been taking good care of you, huh?”He nodded.“Where's Aunty Lisa, by the way?”He pointed towards the kitchen.I carried him in my arms as we headed towards the kitchen. I had missed him so much.“Hey, Lisa.”“You're here,” Lisa replied.“Yeah. I can see how good my boy is looking. Thank you so much for looking after him.”“You're welcome. Jayden is a good boy, and he doesn't give me any trouble.”I gave her some money for his expenses since I had been paid at the beginning of the month. Then I took Jayden to the children's park.I watched him have fun. I just wanted
