LOGINI got a reminder notification on my phone.
Today, I had to go and see my son and spend some time with him.
I handled a few things around the house before heading out.
“Hey, Jayden,” I said with a smile.
He turned and saw me, then immediately stood up from the ground where he had been playing with his toys.
“Mummy!” he shouted as he ran into my arms.
I hugged him so tight. He was looking good and healthy.
“Aunty Lisa has been taking good care of you, huh?”
He nodded.
“Where's Aunty Lisa, by the way?”
He pointed towards the kitchen.
I carried him in my arms as we headed towards the kitchen. I had missed him so much.
“Hey, Lisa.”
“You're here,” Lisa replied.
“Yeah. I can see how good my boy is looking. Thank you so much for looking after him.”
“You're welcome. Jayden is a good boy, and he doesn't give me any trouble.”
I gave her some money for his expenses since I had been paid at the beginning of the month.
Then I took Jayden to the children's park.
I watched him have fun. I just wanted to spend some quality time with him. Although I was away, he shouldn't feel abandoned.
A few hours later, it was time for me to go back home.
Jayden felt bad. I could see the sadness on his face, and I didn't want to leave either.
“Don't worry, Momma will come back, alright?”
He nodded.
I gave him some candy, hugged him, and went back to the house.
When I came back home, the house was quiet.
No one was in the living room, but Anthony's car was outside, so he had to be somewhere in the house.
Even though he could have left with any other car.
Then I saw him on the balcony, sulking and sipping wine.
“Do you want to talk about it?” I asked as I joined him.
He looked at me and didn't say anything for a few seconds.
“I wasn't in love with Essa,” he said.
“So why were you with her?”
“Because my mom wanted me to. I just wanted to make her happy.”
“Then you should be happy you have a reason to keep her out of your life.”
“No, Emma, you don't get it. We've been together for a couple of years. I proposed. I thought that maybe, just maybe, it was going to work out, and I was faithful all these years.” He said, blinking his eyes like he was about to cry.
“She was going to pin that pregnancy on me. You know what? Never mind. I shouldn't bother you with this,” he continued.
I could feel the pain in his voice. Essa really did him dirty.
“No, you're not bothering me, and it's a good thing you don't love her. I know you've spent a lot on her and you were taking care of her, but that's what we do for people we care about.”
He stared at me and continued with his drink.
“And if it makes you feel any better, I was betrayed by my fiancé and best friend the night before my wedding, and I…”
I couldn't get myself to tell him I had a one-night stand with a stranger and got pregnant.
He was quiet for a moment.
“I can't imagine what you went through,” he said.“But I know what it feels like to have someone you trusted disappoint you.”
I looked at him. “You do?”
He took another sip of his wine.
“Let's just say I've learned not to trust people too easily.”
I nodded.
“So what did you do?” he asked.
“I cancelled the wedding the next day at the altar, with me in my wedding dress.”
“To be honest, my pain is nothing compared to what you must have gone through.”
“Yeah”.
This was the first time I was ever having a free conversation with Anthony.
Seeing him not all bossy and cold, just the Anthony I could have a friendly conversation with, felt strange.
We talked and laughed until we didn't know when we had gotten so close.
At some point, he stared deep into my eyes.
I had never been one to maintain eye contact, but I did this time. His eyes were so beautiful.
I didn't know how I felt, but it was so awkward.
“Um, we should go inside,” I said, stepping back from him.
“Yeah, sure. After you.”
We went back inside, but lo and behold, there was Essa.
I gues
s she wasn't aware her secret was out like wildfire.
I just went to my room to wait for the reaction to this situation.
Days passed, and we tried to keep our relationship professional. But there were still awkward moments because, no matter how much we tried, we'd already crossed a line. That morning, I woke up to Anthony knocking on my door.I opened it.“My PA is taking two days of sick leave. I'll need you to follow me to the office today and tomorrow,” he said, his arms crossed.“That’s not in my job description,” I blurted out immediately.“I’ll add something to your salary at the end of the month,” he replied, looking me straight in the eyes.I didn't respond.I mean, that's more money, right? He took my silence as a yes.“Get ready. We'll be leaving in thirty.”He turned, and I shut the door.Oh God. I had just woken up, and now I was supposed to get ready in thirty minutes.I got ready anyway, taking an extra ten minutes._We drove to the office in his car.The building was big. Really big.The Williams Empire dominated the business world—real estate, high-end restaurants and hotels, technolog
Later that night, I came downstairs to the kitchen to get some water.I hadn't seen Anthony since earlier that day, and I hoped it would continue that way.I walked quietly into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge. Then I caught the scent of his cologne.I froze.I turned around, and there he was, standing in the doorway.Grey joggers. White singlet.I immediately looked away and tried to leave the kitchen, but he gently caught my wrist and pulled me back.He placed both hands on the counter, leaving me standing between them."You've been avoiding me," he said, stepping closer.I swallowed."I haven't."He looked directly into my eyes, but I couldn't hold his gaze."You have. Since the kiss."I didn't respond. He took another step, closing the little space between us.For a moment, neither of us said anything. Then he looked at me."God, Emma. You're so beautiful."My heart started racing.I opened my mouth, but no words came out.Gosh, this man had too much of a
Lisa told me over the phone that they were in the hospital.I left and rushed to the hospital immediately.Thankfully, it was a minor accident.Jayden had slipped and fallen in the bathroom, but he was okay now. The doctor said he could go home in the morning.Lisa agreed to stay with him while I went home.As soon as I reached the door, the next thing that came to my mind was the party. Then the elevator. The kiss.I went inside the house, and just as I had hoped, Anthony was already in his room.I quietly went to my room, showered, and got ready to sleep. But each time I tried to shut my eyes, the scene of that kiss came back to me.I knew I had felt something when he kissed me, but whatever it was, I couldn't let it grow stronger.I buried my face in the pillow, wishing it could smother the memory._I woke up earlier than usual the next morning. The plan was to make breakfast, set the table, then retire to my room before he came down. After what happened last night, all I wanted t
The next day, Anna sent me an address to a restaurant where I was supposed to meet her during the day.She was already there before me.“Hey, girl,” I said as I sat down.“You're right on time,” she replied.“Shouldn't you be planning your party? Why did you ask me to come here?” I asked.“Girl, relax. I've got someone doing that. I wanted you to come here so we can make our choice of outfits.”I raised my eyebrows. “You don't have your outfit ready?”“No.”“You know, Anna, you could host a simple party. Just drinks, you know, nothing loud.”“There's no fun in that.”“Girl, you are always looking for a reason to throw a party. Well, this one is worth it. I'm proud of you.”I ordered a drink while we scrolled through fashion pages.“But Anna, how are we going to get these dresses delivered before evening?”“Don't worry. The more the cash, the faster the delivery.”Anna and I never had the same opinion about any dress we chose. She kept complaining.“Nah, this one is too lengthy.”“Look
Essa lightened up the moment she saw Anthony.Apparently, she had come to surprise him with test results showing she was pregnant.I couldn't stop laughing in my room. She was now the one surprised to see her cover had been blown.Anthony didn't raise his voice. He quietly asked her to leave his house.Essa didn't argue. After much apology and explanation that fell on deaf ears, she eventually left.I was really hoping she'd claim Anthony was wrong and prove her faithfulness. But that's not how betrayal works. It feels like you're dreaming at first, but eventually, you'll accept it as reality.Anthony left the house after their conversation, leaving just me alone in the house.Minutes turned into hours, and night came.Still, Anthony wasn't home.I had prepared dinner and was waiting for him to get back. I sat on the couch in the living room, watching a movie while waiting for him. From the little while I've lived here, I could tell Anthony didn't keep late nights.I could have gone t
