I stared at my reflection in the mirror one more time, satisfied that I looked decent enough to attend the monthly pack meeting.
I couldn’t wait to tell Nathan the good news, my heart beat a little faster with every second that ticked by.
I envisioned his reaction when I finally got to tell him, his shocked look and then he would kiss me until my lips would be swollen and I would get breathless from lack of oxygen.
I shook myself off from those thoughts, a blush stained and my face warmed up as I thought of our moments together.
I walked as fast I could to the location the pack members gathered for the monthly pack meeting.
I smiled when I noticed Nathan, as the Alpha he was surrounded by the pack’s werewolves and he talked to everyone who walked to him. It was obvious how late I was for the meeting.
Walking closer to him, I tugged on his shirt, calling his attention to my presence. He turned to me with an unreadable expression on his face.
He shrugged my hand off, his expression still unreadable.
“I need to talk to you.” I managed a smile but my voice came out slightly muffled and weak.
He stepped away from me, my heart pounded with every step he took away from
me as I kept wondering what was wrong.
I gaped at him, wondering what was going on. I could hear subtle whispers from the pack members and it made me feel like I missed a big announcement because I came late.
The air around me started to chill.
His aura darkened and it suddenly became harder to breathe.
“I reject you as my mate and the Luna of the pack.” Nathan announced in a booming voice. He gave me a bored look, the disdain on his face obvious as he pushed me away from him when I walked closer.
My whole body froze, the air was so heavy and tense that it felt like it would explode soon if someone just breathed too much.
No one spoke. No one moved. The only thing audible was the beating of my own heart in my ears.
I couldn’t believe what he just said, I blinked twice. “What did you say?” My voice squeaked, barely managing to reach the end of my sentence, I didn’t even know I could sound so small and terrified.
Nathan scoffed, his nostrils flared and his eyes flickered with annoyance, his eyebrows furrowed with anger. “I reject you as my mate.” He repeated himself slower and louder this time.
My hands trembled as I tried to clutch them together. I stared at my mate, the man I planned my future together with, the man who took my virginity while we mated a month ago, tears spilled from my eyes.
Nathan’s jaw clenched tightly as the rest of the pack watched us, his face remained impassive as I stumbled backward, unable to take another step towards him, my chest heaved with sobs.
My heart broke, broken into a million tiny pieces, my mind started screaming at me that it wasn’t real, it couldn't happen, that it was all part of my imagination.
A searing pain from the broken bond suddenly shot through me. A sharp stabbing sensation that made my entire body shake.
The pain intensified again, the burning intensity slowly subsided until it eventually disappeared completely and I dropped my head.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
“Why?” I managed to whisper, my voice quivering with emotion. It was clear that no matter how hard I tried to stop the tears I failed miserably. “Why now?”
He stared at me, his eyes were empty, exposing nothing.
“You have no right to question my decision.” He replied.
“The meeting is over and every announcement that should be made, has been made.” He added before walking away with his Beta.
I suddenly heard whispers, every pack member available began to murmur amongst themselves again.
I kept silent as I cleaned the tears that streamed down my face and my vision blurred with unshed tears.
“I can’t believe she thought she’ll get the chance to be the Luna.” A voice said, a mocking tone laced its voice. The words made something inside me snap, my body stiffened with anger as I wiped my tears.
I tried to walk away, but I was too embarrassed to move, and my legs seemed to be frozen.
I stood there, unmoving. As I stood there watching Nathan’s retreating back, I thought about his earlier statement and behavior.
A knot formed in my stomach when I recalled how Nathan rejected me in front of them, how cruel it was and how it made my heart burn.
I couldn’t take it anymore, I couldn’t hold the pain any longer, the overwhelming emotion threatened to drown me.
I forced myself to move, trying to find a quiet place to cry out heartache.
“Look at how pathetic she is.” Another voice mocked me, another person walked past me.
I clenched my fists, holding back the urge to scream at someone.
I was used to their weird treatment of me, and how they normally made fun of me, but I couldn’t handle the ridicule at the moment. It made me more upset than I already was, my eyes stung with unshed tears and I felt helpless. I bit my lower lip to keep my sobbing at bay.
My breathing got ragged, my heart beat so loudly in my chest that I knew it must have been noticeable.
I could feel my body shaking violently with the force of my cries, I didn’t know if my body or my spirit wanted to collapse onto the ground, maybe both.
“Weird weakling.” One of the powerful Gammas of the pack who made it her hobby to embarrass me often, shoved me, making me stumble, I groaned in pain as her sharp claws pierced my hands.
I managed to walk past her after minutes of torture and mockery from her.
When I finally reached a quiet corner, I collapsed on the floor, hugging my knees close to my body, trying to calm down.
Slowly, I regained control over my breathing and body. My mind stopped racing as much, my heart stopped thudding against my chest with fear.
I yelled when hands patted my back,
I snapped my head up, fear making my heart pound as I stared at the source of the touch.
Nathan’s POV.I could see the annoyance on her face, it made me wonder if she’ll let me in.Alana has made it clear with her actions recently that she wasn’t going to forgive me anytime soon. She stared at me with narrowed eyes, a sigh slipped past her lips.I remember how she sent me away yesterday, how she let Alpha Ethan walk in.I clenched my jaw, the memory of him being treated like he’s Liam’s father made my fist clench as well.I understand that she has every right to treat me this way, but it still felt like someone had stabbed me in the chest with a knife.I wanted nothing more than to start again with her, but she didn’t give me the chance to do so.“What are you doing here?” She asked with an unimpressed look that was supposed to be cold, but I could sense the underlying tension between us.My brows furrowed, “I came to visit Liam, see how he’s doing.” The words left my mouth slowly, I didn't want to sound too eager or desperate for her attention, but I was tired of waiting
Alana’s POV.I watched him walk away, his shoulders down a little, I couldn’t help but feel slightly bad for sending him away.He walked slowly towards the route leading him away from my place.I felt a little regretful, but I couldn’t change my decision, I had to stand on the fact that his change of mind and his sudden niceness towards me might not last.Alpha Ethan comes in with a smile, “So how is he?” He asked, his head inclined towards Liam.I rushed towards my son, my heart beating so loudly it made my cheeks hurt. I could hear him breathing heavily under my grasp and I let out a small sob.His eyes were closed but tears were streaming down his face, as if he was going to cry out loud again at any moment.“It’s okay, he’ll be fine.” Alpha Ethan said reassuringly while rubbing circles into my back. I didn’t look up, I could tell that he was looking at me worriedly. “I can’t believe this happened, he already hurt his hand and now this happened.” I sighed and began pacing the room
Nathan’s POV.I ran towards the direction of the border immediately. Alpha Ethan’s beta announced that rogues were trying to break in.The commotion made it difficult to get through the crowd and I could barely see what was going on. All I knew was that there’s a group of people trying to come into our territory. I paused when I noticed Alana and Liam, Liam screamed as he held leg.I turned to my beta who ran beside me, “Join his beta and him to the border, I need to check on my son.” I ordered. My beta nodded before she turned around and followed them. “Stay safe.” I told him as I ran off.It was hard to make out everything clearly from where I stood, but I moved towards them.“Please help me move his leg.” Alana said, tears were falling down her face and her face was pale. Her hands were shaking as Liam kept screaming.I lifted the cupboard off his leg and winced when I saw the damage. The nail from the cupboard had pierced his skin deeply. Blood trickled slowly onto the concrete
Alana’s POV.I rushed to Liam’s side and carried him up immediately, the bruise on his arm looked more serious up close, as well as his cut lip which was bleeding profusely.I had to stop myself from screaming,”I’m so sorry my love.” I patted his head.“It’s okay mom.” He replied teary eyed with a shaky smile as he stumbled while trying to stand.I tore part of my clothes and wrapped it around his wound, my heart hurt for him seeing him like this, my wolf howled in pain.I turned to Aurora who started laughing, “Look at how stupid you both look, mother and son standing there like idiots.” She snorted.I made Liam sit silently by the tree trunk, I stalked closer to her.My palm landed on her face as I snapped at her, “Shut up. You’re not funny Aurora.” I said coldly.“Why would you do that to my son?” I demanded.“Did you just hit me?” She yelled back.“Yes” I answered simply.Aurora tried hitting me back but I grabbed her wrists tightly, my nails dug deep into her skin until I heard h
Aurora’s POV.I watched Nathan from afar, I could see the longing in his eyes and how he wanted to hug his son immediately Alpha Ethan hugged him.I sighed, frustrated that everything so far didn’t happen the way I wanted. I yelped slightly when I realized the root of the tree I held on to pierced my hand through a thin branch as I was about to jump up. “Oh crap.” I mumbled under my breath. I stared at the direction of Alana’s house and realized that Nathan left, my anger at watching them increased, it made me upset that this wasn't going the way I planned.I turned around and walked back to my house, my anger not dissipating , I just wanted everything to go back the way it was before we came back here.I yelled to the empty house immediately I got in, throwing my bag on a chair, I let out an irritated sigh, “What am I going to do now?” I thought miserably. “Maybe if I ask the seer to say something else it would work.” I murmured to myself before turning away from the table toward
Nathan’s POV.“I went to your place and I couldn’t see you.” Aurora glared at Alana, her gaze lingered on Liam for a while before she stared at me.“Why are you looking for me?” I asked, my brow furrowed. She looked away from me but not without glancing at me once again. “I had something important to tell you.” “Okay, this is the part where I’ll go,” Alana interrupted, she grabbed Liam, “come on Liam let’s go.”I watched her walk away, the urge to follow her immediately came over me, but I knew I couldn’t do that with Aurora here.“What is it?” I turned to her with a frown.“You’re really not behaving like an Alpha anymore, you keep following Alana around, I know I’ve said this before, but it’s not looking good.” She crossed her arms over her chest, “you need to remember why you ended your relationship with her, you’re the one who told me what the seer said.”“Okay.” I didn’t plan on saying more, the seer’s words were still fresh in my head, I didn’t tell anyone what she said yet.“
