Alaia POV

As we arrived at school, a sense of dread began to wash over me.

I’d never been 100% comfortable in social situations, and it showed. I only had one friend, Jordyn, who’d been with me for as long as I could remember. She knew all my secrets and fears and never judged me. She was my sister, if not through blood, absolutely through bond.

Aaron parked the car, and I spotted his group of friends by the front entrance.

With Aaron being who he was, people flocked to him like moths to a flame. All the “popular” kids hung with him and hung on to his every word.

I knew my brother was awesome, but I sometimes wondered if they really liked him or if they were just hanging around because they knew he was their future alpha. Either way, we both got out and grabbed our bags from the back seat.

As was his habit for as long as I could remember, Aaron looked over and asked me, “You good, sis?”

I gave him a small nod, which he returned with a smile. He then turned toward the entrance and headed for his friends. When he reached the front steps, his best friend and soon-to-be Beta, Alexi, stepped forward to greet him.

Alexi was a god amongst men, if I did say so myself. He was the same height as Aaron at 6’2 with a muscular build, gorgeous tan skin, impossible gray eyes, and dirty blond hair that looked like silk and made me want to run my fingers through it.

But unlike Aaron, Alexi was a man whore.

He changed girls like socks, always with someone new, and he had never once looked in my direction. I wondered if he avoided me out of respect for my brother or if I was just too dull for him. Either way, I wished he were mine.

I don’t know how long I had been standing and staring, but Jordyn walked up to me and snapped me out of my thoughts.

“Stop drooling before you slip in the puddle,” she said while giggling.

“Oh shut it,” I replied before I grabbed her arm and swung her towards the cafeteria.

“Need. Food. Now.” I said dramatically, making her roll her eyes.

As if she already knew, she asked, “Snoozed through breakfast again, huh?”

“You know me all too well, don’t you, my love? Come on, we’ve got to be quick, so I can grab a snack and tell you about my morning.”

At this, her eyebrows shot up.

“It’s not even 8:00; besides you lusting after Alexi, what would have already happened this morning?”

I ignored her comment and told her about my mom’s revelation about my birthday party this Saturday.

“On top of all that, my dad is inviting four alphas from our neighboring packs to the party, too. Aaron is so excited to meet his mate finally, but I don’t know how to feel. What if my mate feels like I’m not good enough? If he’s an alpha, will he want me to be his pack’s Luna? What if he doesn’t want me and rejects me? What if...”

Before I could finish my thought, Jordyn pinched my nose and shut me up.

“Girl, chill out and breathe; all of these ‘what ifs’ are only going to drive both you and me crazy. Just relax. There is no guarantee that you’ll meet your mate on Saturday, but when you do, he will love you and treat you like the goddess you are. If he doesn’t, he’ll have to deal with me, and he won’t want that,” she said with a wink.

As one of the strongest warriors in the Opal Moon pack, Jordyn was a force to be reckoned with, and we all knew it.

“No, he definitely doesn’t want that,” I said with a smile.

A little calmer, I finally made it to the cafeteria and rushed over to the snack machines. I really would have preferred some bacon and eggs, but this pack of mini blueberry muffins and a bottle of orange juice would have to do. Jordyn and I then headed back to the main hallway before parting ways to go to our homeroom classes.

***

As I took my seat in Mrs. Mitchell’s class, I tore into my breakfast. I was so consumed by the blueberry goodness that I didn’t even notice Alexi sit next to me until he let out a small laugh.

“Hungry?”

I immediately choked on a piece of muffin and had to chug some juice before I could clear my throat and reply.

“Oh, hey, Alexi. Sorry, my mom and your BFF made me miss breakfast this morning, so I’m a little hungry.”

I felt my face getting red as I looked over and saw the small grin tugging at the corners of his delicious lips. Oh, if only I could have licked those lips. I could have done all kinds of dirty things.

I was pulled out of my dirty girl fantasy when Victoria, Alexi’s flavor of the week, walked by and purposefully bumped into me. Her sickly sweet perfume almost made me gag, and when she opened her mouth, it sounded like the wailing of a dying banshee.

“Babyyy, why are you sitting back here with this nobody instead of at the front with me?”

To make her point, she crossed her arms under her poorly stuffed bra, pushing up her faux cleavage, and gave Alexi her best pout. I rolled my eyes and began to turn back towards the front of the class before I snuck a glance at Alexi. He looked at her, and I saw a look of exasperation flash across his face before he hid it with one of his megawatt smiles.

“I’ll be right there, Valerie; I just needed to talk to Alaia real quick.”

Her face dropped when she realized that Alexi had just called her “Valerie” instead of “Victoria,” but before she could bring it up, Alexi spun her around and gave her a small push towards the front of the class.

I let off a small chuckle before I could catch myself, which Victoria heard. She glared at me over her shoulder and gave me her best sneer. Oh, if looks could kill.

Alexi got my attention again by saying, “I heard about the party the Luna is throwing. Good luck finding your mate. I hope he’s everything you deserve.”

With that, he was up and out of the chair, heading towards a smiling Victoria.

“What. The. Actual. Fuck?”

That was the first real conversation I’d ever had with Alexi, and it left me more than a little confused. For a moment, I wondered if he did see me and wanted me as much as I wanted him, but then I saw him and Victoria sucking face, and quickly wiped that idea from my head.

“He was just being nice and nothing more,” I said to myself. Now, if only I could convince myself of that.

  • Once Rejected, Twice Desired   Epilogue

Alaia POV I fully believe that wolves handle grief differently than humans do. With Alexi being human, it made it so much harder for him to get over the fear that gripped him when he found out I had sacrificed myself to Vincent. When they all arrived to rescue me, he looked like he couldn’t believe I was still alive. Maybe he had convinced himself I was already gone as a coping mechanism. Whatever it was, we had plenty of nights afterwards where he would leave the room and wander the house or the grounds around it alone. He was still an amazing father to the boys, and he took care of the pack with all the love and attention one would expect of him. But when it came to me, he remained distant. He was hurting deeply, but he never said anything. I had tried so many times to talk to him about it, to try and heal him, but he never wanted any part of it. But I couldn’t understand why. Maybe it wasn’t for me to understand. That night I found him in the gym was the final straw. I had to

FOUR MONTHS LATERAlexi POVI felt myself tossing and turning in bed. I was having the same dream that had kept me up for months. I thought it was behind me and behind us, but I was wrong. She had gone to Vincent. He had drained her. She was gone. My heart beat erratically in my chest; these memories were going to kill me. I shot up in bed, my clothes clung to my soaking wet frame. I looked around, and it was still dark out. My phone on the table read 3:07 AM. I still slept in the room that we shared with Alaia. I could not bring myself to leave it, not when everything still smelled like her. But maybe it was those scents that lead my mind down the rabbit hole each and every night. “I’ll never get back to sleep. Maybe I just need a run,” I said as I slipped out of bed.I pulled on some sweats and went down to the gym and hopped on the treadmill. This had been my ritual for months now; the insomnia was impossible to contend with, so I had to run out all my energy if I had any cha

Alexi POV To My Loves,Please take care of our sons. They will need you now more than ever. I know you can help raise them to be men I would be proud of. Always let them know that they are loved, and that I loved them so much that I sacrificed myself so they could live. And please don’t let this choice I have made break you. Continue to work with each other and lead this pack. I know this will be hard, but you two can do it. Tell Matt that Taylor is lucky to have him, he shouldn’t waste any time with her. It’s precious and we never know when it will run out. And to Aaron and Jordyn. I’m sorry I won’t see them have their first child or get married, but l have always loved them both. They kept me going until I found my way to you two. I’ll be forever grateful. Alexi, and Xander. You two have been my moon and my stars. Being your wife as been my greatest gift. But as the Amethyst Wolf, my obligation is not just to you but to my pack, and to all. No one should die for something I ca

Alexi POV “So we’ve got it now. We’ll strike Vincent tomorrow after nightfall. We will have all those who are unable to fight protected down in the tunnels until we return. Alaia and the twins will be among them.”Alaia had sat in on the meeting and when she heard the plan she shot up from her chair. “What kind of plan is that, Alexi? Sending all of the pack into a fight? They will die, maybe not all of them but enough will.”“Angel, this is how these things go. No member of this pack is unwilling to die for the life of their Luna. We aren’t doing anything out of the ordinary.”She looked around for a moment, then turned to Xander and me. “And Aaron? Is he coming along, too, or will he just send extra guys over to us?”I knew just what she was getting at. But I also promised to never lie to her. “He is coming. Jordyn will stay home but he wants to personally make sure Vincent dies.”She then turned to look at Matt. “You just found your mate, Matt. Doesn’t that matter? Taylor may

  • Once Rejected, Twice Desired   SEVENTY-FOUR(3) | Bonus Scene

Alaia POVAfter we had our dinner, Xander drove us to the movie theater where the guys picked a random action spy movie for us to watch. It seemed interesting enough, but after the scene in the diner, I didn’t really care what we watched. I was distracted; all I wanted to watch was one of these two go down on me. That’s the movie I’d pick. I chose seats all the way in the back of the theater, I didn’t want any distractions for what I had planned. The lights dimmed a little for the previews and I lifted the arm rests on either side of me so that I could have easy access. The guys were watching some explosion on the screen when I reached out both hands and grabbed onto their dicks through their pants.Xander seemed surprised at first but Alexi, he was ready and waiting. He’d made me a promise at the diner and I intended for him to keep it.I leaned over to each of them and whispered “Zippers down, you know what I want.”They quickly obliged, and I put my hands into their pants and grabb

  • Once Rejected, Twice Desired   SEVENTY-FOUR(2)

Alaia POVKatherine and Kimmy decided that they would come and watch the babies while Xander, Alexi, and I went out for the night. We didn’t get to have a honeymoon, and things at the house had been less than romantic with all the plotting to kill Vincent. I decided that I wanted to have a laid-back kind of date. I didn’t need anything fancy; I just wanted to spend some quiet time. So we did dinner and a movie. We found a small diner outside of Jade City that was said to have some of the best burgers in the area. Luckily, the place was small and relatively empty. The looks we got when we walked in were comical. They didn’t know what to make of me showing up draped across two tall, gorgeous men, but we didn’t care. We picked a booth at the back corner and settled in. The waitress came over and immediately started giving the guys “the eye,” but instead of being sexy, she looked like she was having a stroke. She leaned over the table towards Xander before saying, "I’m Trina, your ser

  • Once Rejected, Twice Desired   CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN(2)

Alaia POVAn hour later, the pack returned to the house, ready to welcome their new Alpha and Luna. My parents stood on the left side of the stage with Aaron and Jordyn on the right. Alaia POV I was absolutely right! Alexi had some kind of ancient erotic sorcery flowing through his fingers. If I thought the dream was good, it was nothing compared to the real thing. Xander POV These meetings seemed to drag on and on, and I was becoming restless. There was some serious shit going down in my office, and I had no idea what exactly it was. Two hours after I had arrived, the lawyers present were still bickering back and forth about clauses and amendments, but I ha
