Hagan's POV

I froze at her words as my hands found my mouth in disbelief.

She was…mated?

Why didn't she mention it back at Moonstorm?

So was he the father of her pup?

“Why did you never mention this?” I questioned.

“You never asked?” She said. I exhaled. “And we agreed details of each other's personal life didn't matter. Back then, atleast” she explained.

I stared at her silently, still trying to make sense of the situation.

“Who else knows about this, you being mated? And the pregnancy?

Ever’s POV “What?” I stared at Hagan, seriously confused. “What do you mean? Why did I do what? What did I do?” “And now, you act oblivious?” His tone sharpened. “You've changed, Ever.” He let out, somewhat disappointed. “And I don't mean that in a good way.” Wha... ‘I’ changed? Really? His words were so laughable. “I know.” He told me. I almost laughed. “Know what, Hagan? You always think you know. But every single time you keep getting it wrong,” I told him mockingly. “You've revealed the news of Rhaeya's pregnancy, Ever.” Hagan said, his voice already edged with frustration. My jaw fell open. He? He knew? She was really pregnant. I hadn't guessed wrong. “Why did you do it? After all these years of being on my neck about making us public, why would you make things even harder instead of coming to me directly? Why tell everyone?” My eyes shot up to meet him as he asked. The question hurt more than I expected, especially because it confirmed the one fear I'd had

Ever's POVMy eyes caught Hagan, who was the first to come through the entrance and beside him, Rhaeya. The crowd erupted as she waved past them and towards the high table.Following behind was Zeke. He looked…different today. Replacing his usual cold and irritated demeanor was a warm one. His sister Aya was right beside him as they made their way to their seats at the table. And finally, the elders, all surrounded by guards and warriors on duty, followed. The crowd bowed as they passed, and once they reached their designated seats, the claps and cheers died down and everyone slowly straightened again. The music had stopped. The entire festival grounds had gone strangely quiet and the air became awkwardly tense. One of the elders looked around, clearly confused by the sudden silence. “Why has everyone stopped?”No one answered as everyone's gaze remained quietly fixated on the high table. Then Elder Owen stepped forward with a grin.“What are you all waiting for?” he jeered. “The roya

Ever's POVMila popped a grape into her mouth, chewed for barely two seconds, then her eyes widened. “Oh my God. This is heaven,” she said, taking another. “Compared to that stale bread and infested soup they serve back at the ranch.”Kia burst out laughing, and I couldn't help but join her as Mila immediately reached for another handful, stuffing a few grapes into the folds of her dress before looking around as though she had just committed a serious crime.“You're actually stealing them?” I asked, laughing.“Stealing?” Mila scoffed. “I'm securing provisions. And don't just stand there. Help! Get a bag or something.”Kia laughed harder, but before Mila could defend herself any further, she froze.I followed her gaze to Hannah, who was standing a short distance away, watching us with her eyes specifically on Mila.Mila slowly lowered her hand, sweating profusely as Hannah approached. On reaching us, she looked between the three of us before glancing at the grapes Mila had hidden.“I,

Ever's POV“Wait,” she said and I gulped. “Please wait…I wanted to say something,” she added in a tone unusual for her usually hardened self. Was she trying to make me comfortable, then strike when I least expected it. Because whatever tone this was - it honestly didn’t feel like Hannah. She slowly let go of my arm, then, struggling with words, she finally spoke.“I…I’d heard what you'd done.” Shit, I was done for, wasn't I? What had I done? Did she want to pay me back for it? She swallowed hard, then continued. “Like what you'd said when Luna suggested you reassume the Head Maiden position,” she told me, and my memory clicked.Ohh, was that what this was about? So she…wasn't here for revenge?“No one's ever stuck up for me that way. Even if you didn't mean it, thanks,” she told me, and my eyes widened.I stared at her for a few seconds. What the hell was happening today? First Zeke was being nice to me, and now Hannah was…thanking me?“You're serious?” I asked.“Hey, I'm trying my be

Ever’s POV“I should get going,” I told him, still surprised by what he'd just said. I turned to leave, then I stopped just before leaving, turning back to look at Zeke, with my lips pressed tightly together. For a second, I didn't know what to say, because the offer he had made earlier was probably the nicest thing I had ever heard come out of his mouth. I had no use for it, because I didn't plan to leave Greymark, not now, not anytime soon. But I should really thank him properly - this asshole's first show of goodwill.“And thanks for the offer…” I finally let out, then dropped a light bow. “Alpha Zeke.” I finally said, and the words felt strange coming from me to him. I beamed at him and walked out, shutting the door behind me.He only gave me a small nod, so I turned and stepped outside, pulling the door shut behind me before leaning against the wall, one hand pressed over my chest as I tried to catch my breath. What the hell had just happened? Zeke had actually said something nic

Zeke's POV“And how did you come to know this?” I asked her, lost for words at what she'd just told me.She lowered her gaze briefly before answering, her voice kept to the same quiet tone they had maintained since the beginning of their conversation.“It was easy to note, with the type of concoction her body only responded to, Alpha. The incident put both her and her unborn pup’s life in danger, and there being another life inside her, she needed medicine enough for two.”I couldn't help but smile at the confirmation. Was it good news or bad news, I had no idea. But it was definitely a complicated one, at least for Hagan.I moved away from the table and picked up one of the small glass bottles scattered across it, turning it idly between my fingers.“And Hagan?” I asked her. “Does he know about this?”“I have no idea if she shared it with him. But when I'd told her, she seemed anything but pleased. Panic-stricken, if truth be told,” she added. There was definitely something going on.

Ever's POV I wasted some time before I eventually stood up.
