Chapter 3

Author: Local Universe
Hearing what Casper said, Adam could only open his mouth as tears rolled down his cheeks uncontrollably. "Daddy..."

Perhaps that word finally moved Casper. He frowned, the coldness in his eyes icier than the frigid snowstorm. "Alright, say it, then. What do you want this time? Money or a house?"

Adam's hands were balled into fists, but he was too afraid to speak against him. He had once told Casper that Sydney was bullying him, but all it took was a crocodile tear from Sydney to make Casper believe that I was jealous of his affection toward her and that I was inciting our son to frame a woman.

That time, Casper had locked me in the basement for a whole week.

My son had also had nightmares for a whole week.

Adam couldn't help but shiver when that memory crossed his mind. He lowered his head and said softly, "Daddy, I can't wake Mommy up. Can you give me your quill?"

Casper's heart skipped a beat, and he subconsciously asked. "What do you mean you can't wake her up? Didn't your mother only donate 400cc worth of blood..."

"Casper!" Sydney suddenly cut him off.

Casper turned his head, a look of shock on his face. "What is it?"

Sydney stiffened and awkwardly changed the subject as she felt Casper's inquisitive look.

"Today is New Year's Eve. If Adam gets home late, Winnie will get worried. All he wants is a quill, right? You should hurry and give it to him. Let's not disturb their New Year's celebration."

Casper's attention was quickly diverted, and his expression softened slightly. "You're still so sympathetic. In that case, come with me."

The group entered the villa, and the wound on my son's face looked even more frightening under the bright lights. Sydney's daughter came over and looked at my disheveled son, asking curiously, "Daddy Casper, who is this? Is he a beggar? He's so dirty."

The girl's innocent words made my son's face flush red.

He looked weakly at Casper, hoping he would explain it to the girl. However, his father was seemingly triggered by something and looked at him with disgust. "Is this how your mother taught you to act to gain others' pity? Do you think I'll feel sympathy for you if you look more miserable? This is ridiculous…"

The redness on my son's face slowly faded as Casper voiced out his thoughts, replaced by paleness and fragility.

Adam thought that… His father really didn't love him anymore.

Wiping the tears from his face, he looked up again. Casper had already gone upstairs, and only Sydney was left, looking at him triumphantly with her eyes full of pity. "Tsk… How sad. Even your father doesn't want you anymore. Let me think… Why don't you call me 'Mommy'? I suppose I can let you stay and be my pet dog. How does that sound?"

"Never!" Adam's body was trembling with anger as his fists clenched tightly, and his eyes were red. "You're not my mommy. I only have one mommy, and her name is Winnie, not you! Don't be so smug! When my mommy wakes up, she'll get back at you for me!"

Adam gritted his teeth and said those words with so much conviction, but I was in so much heartache I could barely breathe. I couldn't imagine how devastated he would be if he found out I would never wake up again.

How could he face the future?

He was only six years old!

Just as tears blurred my vision, Sydney was also completely enraged. She looked around, and the moment she saw Casper coming downstairs, she suddenly fumbled in her pocket and shouted in feigned panic. "My phone? Where's my phone?!"

Sydney frantically searched all over herself until her eyes finally fell on my son. There was a faint smile on her lips as she said, "Adam, did you steal my phone?"

My son was startled and immediately shook his head. "I didn't! Didn't you..."

Slap!

He was forced to swallow every word he wanted to say.

Casper's eyes were filled with disappointment as he held the quill in one hand and pointed at Adam's swollen, red face with his other hand. "I knew it! I knew you were up to no good coming back this time! It's bad enough that your mother taught you to frame Sydney previously, but now, you've learned how to steal, too? What did I do to deserve a son like you?!

"Tell me now! Where did you hide the phone? Give it up right now!"

"Ms. Sydney Edwards, you are suspected of being involved in child abuse and murder. Please come back to the station with me for the investigation," Captain Stone said.Sydney was stunned, and her eyes immediately turned red. "What are you talking about? I was just rehearsing a play with my daughter in the room. Those were all lines from the play. Did you mishear it?"Then, she looked at Casper in a panic and said tearfully, "Casper, please help me explain this to him. You know I wouldn't even dare to kill a chicken, how could I dare to commit murder? There must be some sort of mistake."Casper felt sick to his stomach when he saw her put on the pitiful act. He had never realized that Sydney could act so well. She was nothing like Winnie. No, she wasn't even worthy of being compared to her.The hatred in Casper's eyes grew stronger when he remembered my face. "Sydney… You dare lie to me!"He reached out and fiercely choked Sydney, his voice so cold it chilled her to the bone. Syd

"I clearly told the doctor to only draw 400cc, there's no way he drew 2000cc." Casper's eyes were red as he asked in disbelief. "You're lying to me, you must be lying to me!"Then he sneered and said to himself. "I get it, you're not the real police. You must be actors that Winnie hired. How much did she pay you? Tell me! How much did she pay you to pretend to be the police? How much?!"Captain Stone shook his head and said, "Whether you believe it or not, that is the truth. Mr. Hawthorne, please come back to the station with us."After saying that, he took out a pair of handcuffs and was prepared to arrest Casper, but Casper still didn't believe it and resisted fiercely. However, Mr. Smith seemed to have remembered something, and his face turned deathly pale. "Don't tell me..."Casper paused, his eyes so red that they were almost bloodshot. "Mr. Smith, do you know something?"Captain Stone also immediately turned to the butler. "What do you know?"Mr. Smith bit his lip and expl

Adam hid in my arms in fear and asked me in disbelief, "Mommy, is she really Lily's biological mother?"Seeing the confusion in his eyes, I was also at a loss for words. But soon, I was even more surprised by what Sydney did. When she saw that Lily was too scared to say a word, her anger flared up again as she pinched the inside of Lily's thigh hard.As she pinched her, she said, "You useless witch! I've already gotten rid of Winnie and that worthless son of hers for so many days. Why haven't you managed to charm that idiot Casper?! Isn't that what you do best? Why did you fail this time?!"If you had really made Casper forget that kid, I wouldn't have been so scared like this. It's all your fault, you witch!"Sydney would pinch Lily firmly each time she said a sentence, as if she was venting all her frustrations on her. Meanwhile, Lily seemed to have long been accustomed to it, and she didn't dare to resist at all.She just lowered her head numbly, not even having the courage to

Casper lowered his eyes to look at Adam, who looked like he was just sleeping in his arms. He felt like there was now a vast emptiness in his heart. However, his rationale told him that hiding the cause of his son's death was the right choice.Sydney also quickly said, "Casper, Mr. Smith is right. You might not have meant it, but things have already come to this. We should hurry and hide Adam."Casper stared blankly at Sydney, his voice hoarse. "Sydney, I killed Adam, and now I'm hiding him. He'll never forgive me."A trace of impatience flashed in Sydney's eyes, but she quickly put on a gentle expression. "How could he not? Adam has always been a sensible boy. He'll understand how hard this is for you and won't be angry with you. Don't worry."My son pouted, his eyes full of disgust. "I'll never forgive him!"But Casper seemed to have found comfort in those empty words. "You're right, Adam definitely won't be angry with me."With Casper's agreement, Mr. Smith quickly moved Adam'

Casper had not yet recovered from his grief as I finished reminiscing, but Sydney couldn't help but ask Casper, "What's wrong? Who are you thinking of? Are you thinking of Winnie?"She smiled, a cold glint in her eyes. "Speaking of which, it's quite strange. It has been quite a while, and Adam is already like this right now, so why isn't she here yet? Even if she wants to use Adam to get your love, isn't this going too far...?"Casper was stunned for a moment, then he immediately remembered Mr. Smith saying that Adam had fainted in the snow.He suddenly skipped a beat.He stood up, pushed Sydney aside, and ran outside.Sydney was startled by what Casper was doing. Before she could say anything, Casper had already run downstairs. She frowned and quickly followed. But when she got downstairs, she was startled by what was happening before her. She saw Casper rushing into the snow as he took off his own coat, wrapping it tightly around the stiff figure on the ground.Tears rolled, f

The chair was violently knocked over, and a deafening noise echoed in the study as he received the call from the police department. Casper frantically put the phone to his ear and asked, "What rental apartment? Who are you?! This joke has gone a bit too far!"The person on the other end seemed very familiar with this kind of situation. His tone showed no change in tone after hearing what Casper had to say. He said in a formal tone, "Mr. Hawthorne, please calm down. We're from the Central City Police Department. An hour ago, we received a report about a strange smell coming from a rental apartment. "When the police arrived, they found the body of a young woman who had been dead for three days. According to her identification, we found that the deceased is your ex-wife, Ms. Winnie Carlson.
