Chapter 4

Author: Local Universe
My mind went blank in an instant, and I hurried forward to shield my son. I wanted to question Casper—What right did he have to hit my son? Why must he believe everything Sydney said?

But no one could see my rage.

Adam looked at the man in disbelief, tears falling uncontrollably. "I didn't take her phone! My Mommy didn't teach me anything bad. It was her! She did it on purpose! She's not the good person you imagine! She's been bullying Mommy and me all along! She lied to you!"

But my son's tearful accusations didn't make Casper believe him. Instead, it enraged him even further.

Casper threw the quill in his hand away and pushed my son to the ground, starting to tear at his clothes. "Say it! Where did you hide the phone?!"

Piece by piece, his clothes were stripped in the open. Adam's dignity was also trampled under Casper's feet, just like those clothes that were thrown off.

Adam struggled as much as he could. "I didn't! I really didn't take it!"

Casper didn't stop. Instead, he became even more forceful as he pinched my son's body, leaving bruises all over.

Adam cried out in pain, and my heart ached so much that I was going mad. I kept reaching out, trying to pull Casper away.

But I couldn't.

I was just a useless soul.

Sydney watched this scene in glee, the disdain in her eyes apparent.

Once he was completely undressed, my son stopped fighting. All he could do was glare at Casper with pure hatred.

Casper was stunned at first when he couldn't find anything, but when he saw the hatred in Adam's eyes, he completely snapped.

Casper stood up and threw the naked Adam out into the snow.

"Since you won't listen, then kneel in the snow and clear your head." My son was about to get up, but Casper added. "Kneel until I'm satisfied, then I'll give you the quill."

I was instantly chilled to the bone.

I knew Adam would obey everything Casper said for my sake, but I didn't want that.

Adam didn't move, and he just knelt there on New Year's Eve in the icy snow. He simply let the snow slowly cover his body.

Sydney held her daughter in the warm room and asked with fake concern. "Casper, Adam is still so small. Isn't that a bit too cruel?"

Casper's eyes were fixed on the window, disappointed. "Cruel? He did something wrong first. If he can't even handle this, how is he supposed to become the heir to the Hawthorne family later?"

The smile on Sydney's face froze, then the jealousy in her eyes bloomed. It was almost impossible to hide. She had never expected that even after all this, Casper was still thinking of letting that kid be his heir.

However, she felt relieved when she saw the ripped clothes on the floor. So what if he cared? It was still her victory.

Thinking of this, Sydney's smile grew wider, and she diverted Casper's attention with a soft, gentle voice.

There was warmth on this side of the window.

There was only wind and snow outside the window.

Meanwhile, Adam had finally reached his limits and collapsed in the snow.

Before losing consciousness, he was still muttering. "Just a little longer... When his anger subsides, I can finally wake Mommy up."

Two hours later, Casper finally remembered his son when he was working in the study, and he called for his residence's butler, Mr. Smith. "How long has it been? Has Adam admitted his mistake?"

Mr. Smith's face was pale, his voice hesitant. "Sir, it has been two hours. The Young Master has already fainted in the snow..."

"What?!" Casper's face turned into shock, and the pen he was holding fell on the floor.

The phone on the desk vibrated at this moment. "Hello? Is this Mr. Casper Hawthorne? We received a report at the department, and we found a body in a rental apartment rented under your name."

"Ms. Sydney Edwards, you are suspected of being involved in child abuse and murder. Please come back to the station with me for the investigation," Captain Stone said.Sydney was stunned, and her eyes immediately turned red. "What are you talking about? I was just rehearsing a play with my daughter in the room. Those were all lines from the play. Did you mishear it?"Then, she looked at Casper in a panic and said tearfully, "Casper, please help me explain this to him. You know I wouldn't even dare to kill a chicken, how could I dare to commit murder? There must be some sort of mistake."Casper felt sick to his stomach when he saw her put on the pitiful act. He had never realized that Sydney could act so well. She was nothing like Winnie. No, she wasn't even worthy of being compared to her.The hatred in Casper's eyes grew stronger when he remembered my face. "Sydney… You dare lie to me!"He reached out and fiercely choked Sydney, his voice so cold it chilled her to the bone. Syd

"I clearly told the doctor to only draw 400cc, there's no way he drew 2000cc." Casper's eyes were red as he asked in disbelief. "You're lying to me, you must be lying to me!"Then he sneered and said to himself. "I get it, you're not the real police. You must be actors that Winnie hired. How much did she pay you? Tell me! How much did she pay you to pretend to be the police? How much?!"Captain Stone shook his head and said, "Whether you believe it or not, that is the truth. Mr. Hawthorne, please come back to the station with us."After saying that, he took out a pair of handcuffs and was prepared to arrest Casper, but Casper still didn't believe it and resisted fiercely. However, Mr. Smith seemed to have remembered something, and his face turned deathly pale. "Don't tell me..."Casper paused, his eyes so red that they were almost bloodshot. "Mr. Smith, do you know something?"Captain Stone also immediately turned to the butler. Adam hid in my arms in fear and asked me in disbelief, "Mommy, is she really Lily's biological mother?"Seeing the confusion in his eyes, I was also at a loss for words. But soon, I was even more surprised by what Sydney did. When she saw that Lily was too scared to say a word, her anger flared up again as she pinched the inside of Lily's thigh hard.As she pinched her, she said, "You useless witch! I've already gotten rid of Winnie and that worthless son of hers for so many days. Why haven't you managed to charm that idiot Casper?! Isn't that what you do best? Why did you fail this time?!"If you had really made Casper forget that kid, I wouldn't have been so scared like this. It's all your fault, you witch!"Sydney would pinch Lily firmly each time she said a sentence, as if she was venting all her frustrations on her. Meanwhile, Lily seemed to have long been accustomed to it, and she didn't dare to resist at all.She just lowered her head numbly, not even having the courage to

Casper lowered his eyes to look at Adam, who looked like he was just sleeping in his arms. He felt like there was now a vast emptiness in his heart. However, his rationale told him that hiding the cause of his son's death was the right choice.Sydney also quickly said, "Casper, Mr. Smith is right. You might not have meant it, but things have already come to this. We should hurry and hide Adam."Casper stared blankly at Sydney, his voice hoarse. "Sydney, I killed Adam, and now I'm hiding him. He'll never forgive me."A trace of impatience flashed in Sydney's eyes, but she quickly put on a gentle expression. "How could he not? Adam has always been a sensible boy. He'll understand how hard this is for you and won't be angry with you. Don't worry."My son pouted, his eyes full of disgust. "I'll never forgive him!"But Casper seemed to have found comfort in those empty words. "You're right, Adam definitely won't be angry with me."With Casper's agreement, Mr. Smith quickly moved Adam'

Casper had not yet recovered from his grief as I finished reminiscing, but Sydney couldn't help but ask Casper, "What's wrong? Who are you thinking of? Are you thinking of Winnie?"She smiled, a cold glint in her eyes. "Speaking of which, it's quite strange. It has been quite a while, and Adam is already like this right now, so why isn't she here yet? Even if she wants to use Adam to get your love, isn't this going too far...?"Casper was stunned for a moment, then he immediately remembered Mr. Smith saying that Adam had fainted in the snow.He suddenly skipped a beat.He stood up, pushed Sydney aside, and ran outside.Sydney was startled by what Casper was doing. Before she could say anything, Casper had already run downstairs. She frowned and quickly followed. But when she got downstairs, she was startled by what was happening before her. She saw Casper rushing into the snow as he took off his own coat, wrapping it tightly around the stiff figure on the ground.Tears rolled, f

The chair was violently knocked over, and a deafening noise echoed in the study as he received the call from the police department. Casper frantically put the phone to his ear and asked, "What rental apartment? Who are you?! This joke has gone a bit too far!"The person on the other end seemed very familiar with this kind of situation. His tone showed no change in tone after hearing what Casper had to say. He said in a formal tone, "Mr. Hawthorne, please calm down. We're from the Central City Police Department. An hour ago, we received a report about a strange smell coming from a rental apartment. "When the police arrived, they found the body of a young woman who had been dead for three days. According to her identification, we found that the deceased is your ex-wife, Ms. Winnie Carlson.
