Chapter 2

作者: Camelyn
Only after I had everything settled did I slowly head home.

My wife was arranging things in the living room when I returned home. Her face still carried a faint blush. She clearly had a great time.

Everything suddenly made sense now after I saw her expression. No wonder she had seemed off lately. It turned out that she had been cheating on me long before today.

I was such a blind fool for not noticing, but it wasn't too late now.

My wife didn't show the slightest warmth when she saw me. Instead, she sneered, "So you've finally decided to come home?"

I hummed softly in response. She became even more irritated after seeing my attitude.

However, I didn't comfort her like I used to. Thinking about what I had witnessed that morning made my stomach churn.

I pretended not to notice her mood and plopped onto the couch before scrolling through my phone.

She stomped into the kitchen to cook, clattering the utensils loudly as if she were deliberately doing it so I would notice.

I put on my earphones and began executing the first step of my plan, which was to contact a private detective.

My in-laws had returned from their day trip by the time my wife finished cooking, and I had already briefed the detective on several matters.

My in-laws didn't even bother disguising their disdain. They thought I was nothing more than a dead-end laborer.

It was funny how they forgot who bought the apartment they were living in.

In that case, I wouldn't hesitate to take the apartment back.

"Dad, Mom, you're home. Hurry up, dinner is ready," my wife called from the kitchen, poking her head out and completely ignoring me.

I walked toward the dining table. The moment my father-in-law, Tommy Frost, saw me, he scolded, "Even your walking posture is sloppy. You look like some street thug. Why can't you be more like Dylan? He's such a polite man!"

He often compared me to Dylan, saying that Dylan earned more and behaved better than I did. Sometimes he even said he regretted marrying off my wife to me and that he should've chosen Dylan instead.

However, they seemed to forget that I wasn't the one who had begged to marry my wife before my family business went bankrupt. It was them who had insisted that she marry into my family.

Now they conveniently erased the past after I had fallen on hard times. How shameless.

I had no intention of arguing with my father-in-law. I needed to act exactly as I always had before everything was in place. That was the fun part.

Everyone was criticizing me at dinner as always.

They complained that I was already this old yet still so useless, that I never helped with housework, that my salary hadn't increased in years, and that they couldn't afford to travel overseas because of me.

I simply acted as if I heard nothing.

Their words didn't affect me, as I had 60 million dollars sitting in my pocket.

I stared at the familiar bed back in the bedroom. Strangely, I felt no desire to lie on it. The thought of them doing it here this morning made me feel sick.

I had only caught them once. But who knew what else they had done behind my back?

The thought of that made me feel like the floor was filthy.

"Why aren't you showering yet? I'm tired. I want to sleep!" My wife's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I turned around and saw she had already showered.

Her words made me laugh silently.

Tired? Tired from what? Was it because she had cheated on me?

How absolutely disgusting.

"I'll take a shower outside. You should go to bed first. I still have some work to finish, so I might not come back tonight," I said.

A wave of displeasure crossed her face the moment my words fell.

But she didn't argue and simply muttered a short response before lying in bed.

I left immediately at the sight of that. I even switched off the bedroom lights when I left. After all, I was still the one paying the electricity bills.

I unconsciously breathed a sigh of relief the moment I stepped into the study room. I felt uncomfortable staying in the bedroom. Every second in there felt nauseating.

The detective I hired earlier had completed his job and sent everything to my phone by the time I finished showering.

I opened our chat to find a flood of photos, videos, and detailed explanations.

What Dylan didn't know was that Cael was the kind of man who valued his reputation above all else. Cael would rather believe Dylan seduced her than accept that his wife had been unfaithful of her own accord. After all, this was a matter of his pride.Cael's face grew darker.Yet, Dylan kept begging pathetically. "Mr. Renard, it wasn't me!"Meanwhile, my wife stared at Dylan in disbelief. She had no idea that he was this kind of person. It was fine that she didn't believe it, because her turn was next."Alright, that's enough!" I shouted.Dylan immediately froze. He looked at me with gratitude in his eyes.Gratitude? I didn't need it!I pressed the TV remote. I had already plugged in the USB drive before they were here. I had been waiting for this moment. The screen lit up. A video of my wife and Dylan tangled together was played on it."You guys must've been tired from yelling. Let's watch something to relax," I said.My wife instantly froze. She couldn't utter a word. My mo

I finished the lines with trembling shoulders before I lowered my head without another word. I was afraid that I'd laugh if I looked at his twisted face."You idiot! What did you tell me before? How could he run away?"What about my house and my money? What am I supposed to tell your mother? Oh my God!"How could you be so useless? You can't even judge someone properly!"He raged continuously before hurling a teacup at my head.Fortunately, I reacted fast enough. Otherwise, I would've ended up in the hospital. This old bastard was just ruthless. The next day, he would pay for the suffering he had put me through."Tommy, I'm really sorry. I don't know what to do now," I said.Honestly, I really didn't know what to do. After all, the house deed was with me."Are you asking me? You were the one asking me to sell it! What does it have to do with me? I didn't know anything!"I was so furious at his words that I laughed. How shameless he was!I heard the sound at the door before I

My wife had prepared the dinner while I was lost in thought. But to my surprise, my mother-in-law had returned home from shopping, and Dylan was trailing behind her.Dylan used to come over for meals all the time.Back then, I naively thought he really liked my wife's cooking. It turned out that what he liked was her.The way they exchanged glances in front of me now was practically dripping with desire.I pretended not to notice and greeted him warmly with a cheerful face as I introduced every dish my wife had prepared.Although Dylan was smiling, I could still see the contempt and mockery in his eyes.He could mock me all he wanted. He wouldn't have a chance to show up in front of me at all soon.My wife sat beside him as usual during dinner. He would sit in my seat whenever he came over.According to her family, Dylan was a guest and should be treated respectfully.I was clueless back then, but I understood now. Cael was Dylan's highest-ranking boss. It was said that Cael was recovering at home because of a recent car accident.Interestingly, I had discovered that the car accident had everything to do with Dylan during my investigation.Dylan and the female supervisor had been caught together in the company parking garage before the crash.Cael had given the supervisor her current position. Therefore, Dylan and the female supervisor came up with a plan to kill Cael in a car accident. That way, not only would they be safe, but they could also inherit Cael's assets. However, the accident didn't go as planned. Now I was giving his words back to him.As expected, my father-in-law touched his nose awkwardly after hearing my words. But it only lasted for a moment. He immediately resumed that haughty expression and said arrogantly, "What late? How can you be so weak? My daughter really suffered marrying someone like you!"He really knew how to twist the truth.I complained silently but kept my face neutral. He saw me stay silent and suddenly stretched out a hand before saying matter-of-factly, "Do you have any money? Give me 200 thousand dollars."200 thousand dollars? He really thought I was his personal ATM."Tommy, 200 thousand dollars? That's a huge amount. I don't have that kind of money. You know everything I have is with Mori."Mori was my wife's nickname. It made me nauseous to say her name now.My father-in-law launched into another round of insults after hearing my answers, calling me useless, a leech, someone who lived off a woman, and every nasty word he could think of.I l
