POV: Chloe

"Don't," I whispered, but it came out weak. Pitiful.

"Don't what?" Tristan's voice was a murmur against my ear, his breath warm on my neck.

"Don't touch you?

Is that what you really want?"

His fingers reached the edge of my underwear, and my hips jerked involuntarily.

"She's trembling," Ethan observed from my other side. His hand had moved from my hip to my stomach, pushing the shirt up inch by inch.

"Is that fear, Chloe?

Or something else?"

Both...

It was both, I want

  • One Mate Was Never Enough    Ethan Rejected Her

POV Chloe I waited for them in Tristan's room. After everything that happened in the kitchen, I decided not to wait in my room or the sitting room.We needed to have a talk, and I want to have that conversation in a familiar space, with our scents, theirs especially.I chose Tristan's room because it smelled like cedar, and even though our bond felt distant and strange, I needed to feel close to him while I figured out how to fix what Ella had destroyed.I sat on the edge of his bed and waited. I waited, and waited, and waited. But, they never came...I could hear Ella. The bedroom door hadn't closed properly. There was a small gap, just enough for every sound to travel through the hallway.Ella wasn't even trying to be quiet. She wanted me to hear her, wanted me to know that she has their attention finally.First came her soft whining."It hurts...""Can you move this?""Can you get that for me?""I can't reach it."One request after another. Small things that kept Tris

  • One Mate Was Never Enough    They Don't Believe Me

POV: Chloe Elixir settled down warmly, and watchful in the back of my mind.“Let her play her games,” I thought In my head.“Let her think she's winning.”Through the bond, I felt Tristan's attention turn toward me, brief and curious. I guess something in my emotional current had caught his notice, too calm perhaps, or too still.I let him feel the surface of it, acting composed, pretending to be fine, pretending that everything is under control.I turned the page of my book even when I know that I hadn't read a single word of it.Yes I was learning to be patient in ways I hadn't been before, and patience, it turned out, had teeth and claws.Ella just didn't know that yet.*****It had been the perfect afternoon... until it wasn't.It had been two days since Ella fell down the stairs. I had done everything I could to avoid her.Until today. That's the thing about happiness. It arrives without warning, and it leaves just as quietly. The time between those two moments is

  • One Mate Was Never Enough    Ella Is Pretending

POV: Chloe I knew the moment I let her stay that I'd made a mistake. No, wait...I didn’t not know immediately, not straight away. Standing on that doorstep watching her press her forehead to the stone, I'd convinced myself I was being reasonable. Being the kind of person who doesn't make decisions out of fear or jealousy, who can look at a messy situation and find the sensible way through it.The sensible path, I'd told myself, was this. Ella had grown up alongside the brothers. She was something close to family to them, in the way childhood closeness creates bonds that adult behaviour struggles to undo. And I wasn't entirely without blame for her situation either, Ethan had leaked those documents for me, had burned her family's finances to the ground in my name, and whatever Ella was or wasn't, the damage from that decision was real.So I let her stay...God, I wish I hadn't...The first three days, I tried. Yeah, I really did, I want that on record that I genuinely,

  • One Mate Was Never Enough    She Has A Plan

POV: Chloe Ella smiles...She could tell that her words were getting into their heads, I could see that too, I could feel it in the bond that they are not so angry anymore I can tell from the way their eyes soften, as if they were recalling the past, like she suggested.“If you kick me out now, I have no one else to turn to and nowhere to go. Please Alpha,” she begs.“Ethan... Please forgive me, I’ve changed completely, I beg you. I’m not the same Ella that caused so much trouble, I’ve really changed.” She said, looking from Ethan to Tristan and then back to Ethan.I almost laughed out loud as she acts pitifully in front of the two brothers and still ignores me as if I wasn’t even standing there."It wasn't me or my brother you offended," Tristan said. His arms had crossed over his chest in the way that meant a door was closing, politely but completely. "Why are we the ones receiving apologies?" he asks her. Her eyes moved, slightly uncertain."You hurt Chloe," Ethan said, beside m

  • One Mate Was Never Enough    Ella Show's Up

POV: Chloe We had been living at the mountain estate for three weeks before it started to feel different. It feels like something other than a very beautiful, very complicated situation. The estate was large enough that three people could coexist without constant negotiation.Tristan's wing on the east side, Ethan's rooms on the west, my bedroom in the centre of the upper floor with windows on both sides and a view of the valley that made waking up feel like an event worth attending. My own space... My own walls. The brothers had insisted on this, separately and then together, with the united front they'd been showing more often since the hospital.“You need somewhere that's yours, Ethan had said. Not ours, Tristan had added. Yours.I had stood in the doorway of the centre bedroom with the valley light coming through the windows and felt something ease in my chest that I hadn't known was tight.Living together was... not simple. I want to be honest about that. There were

  • One Mate Was Never Enough    I Can Be Naughty Too

POV: Chloe Jerome's composure held, but the slight pause said enough."I came to remind you of your obligations to the council," he said. "Your arrangement with miss Nora...""I'll stop you there." Tristan's tone stayed perfectly level, which was the most dangerous version of him, and they both knew it. "I am not engaged to anyone. The council proposed an arrangement. I considered it the way I consider all proposals, without commitment. I neither accepted nor rejected it." He paused. "That consideration is now over. Nora is not my mate and will not be my mate. That is my position and it doesn't need the council's blessing to be final.""The laws of this pack...""Are mine." He said it simply, no emphasis, the way you state facts that don't need defending. "I made them. I know what they say and what they mean. And I’m pretty sure they don't allow any elder, regardless of seniority, to enter my home while I'm away, speak to my household, and issue threats dressed up as leg
