HAILEY’S POV

Just four hours to get myself out of this God-forsaken place if I still valued my life. I hurriedly packed all I could into my bag as I continued having flashbacks of Matilda.

I knew she wasn’t the type to bluff and she wouldn’t hesitate to kill me. Killing me won’t do anything to her and I knew she wouldn’t think twice before doing such.

I didn’t want to take the risk to see what she could do because I knew I’d end up paying for it with my life.

I knew I still had a whole lot to pack if I wanted to get everything but there was no way I was going to do that without being caught.

If I packed everything, it wouldn’t take them long to discover that I was gone and start searching for me, and that way they had higher chances of getting me.

I decided to leave a whole lot and arranged my bed like nothing was going on.

As soon as I was done with anything, I searched around to be sure I wasn’t missing anything important. Even if I was, that was it because I was not ready to put my life on the line.

I wondered how Matilda managed to put up a smile in front of Alpha Zach. That wasn’t who she was, she seemed scary and brutal and she didn’t even think twice before hurrying the dagger into the guard's stomach, sending him to his death.

I didn’t want to be the next person therefore I was going to do exactly as she asked. The thought of being caught by Alpha Zach himself sent shivers down my spine.

The punishment he would give me might be more than what Matilda would herself. He told me that if I tried to run away before the wedding he wasn't going to come over just me, but everyone I love too.

I gulped in hard as I pondered on what to do. I wouldn’t dare defy Matilda but at the same time, I wasn’t sure I wanted to risk it with Alpha Zach.

Why do things have to be this difficult for me?

Time was far spent and any wrong move now would end my life one way or the other.

I checked the time and I only had two hours till midnight. Matilda wasn't going to spare me if she found out that I was gone by sunset.

I heard a knock on the door interrupting my thoughts. I wondered who it could be as I hesitated to answer the door.

Could it be Matilda? And she was here to kill me because I was hesitating?

Or was it Alpha Zach and he already knows that I’m trying to escape? Different thoughts ran through my head without specific answers to any of them.

I hid the bags I packed behind the bed and stood

for a while still pondering if I was to go and open the door or not.

The Knock was persistent and I was forced to open the door.

I was ready for whatever was supposed to happen because there was no other way.

I was relieved to see that it was just the mean old maid again.

“Didn’t you hear that I was knocking on the door?” She yelled, staring at me with her usual frown plastered on her face.

“I was busy with some things, so I didn’t. What do you want?” I asked eagerly. I wasn’t going to let her be the reason for my death.

“What do you mean what do I want? What is so important that you’re doing that no one must know about?” She scoffed glaring at me as she walked into the room.

“And that is none of your business, leave me be already.” I snapped back at her.

Her eyes widened in shock and I knew not in a million years would she have imagined me talking back at her.

“What did you just say to me? Have you suddenly gone out of your senses?” She yelled charging at me like she was about to slap me but I stood my ground.

“Don’t you dare lay a single finger on me, else you’re ready to lose your job. No one gave you the right to speak to me in the manner which you please. Don’t you forget that I am going to be wedded to the Alpha soon, I won’t let you speak to me in such a manner!” I glared at her and she retorted in shock.

I feared she was going to see the bag if she moved back a little bit and I couldn’t risk that happening. She was going to report me, especially after the stunt I just pulled now.

“And if you have nothing else to say, please leave my room.” I walked to her and signaled at the door.

She wasn’t able to say anything and she just walked out. As soon as she got out I sighed in relief and locked the door behind her.

I didn’t have any more time to spare. It has to be now or ever, I knew she was going to be on my nerves now and the fear of being caught gripped me.

I packed the bags and stared at the door for a while summoning the courage to go through with this.

I opened the door and peeped through the corridor. The hall was silent and there wasn’t a sign of anyone in the vicinity.

I turned the door knob fully and stepped outside holding the bags in my hands. I walked slowly to make sure no one would hear my footsteps.

As I reached the staircase, I carried the bags so they wouldn’t make any noise that would sell me out. Just as I stepped on the first stair I heard a familiar tone behind me sending shivers down my spine.

“And where do you think you’re going!”

“Nowhere, I Uhm…….”
