Diamond’s POV

I froze for a while as I watched him watch me take in the information before I scoffed. “What do you mean? You take me for a fool now?” I asked. My chest was already beginning to tighten from anger and sadness.

He was about to speak, but I beat him to it. “See... I know that you said you don't like me, and this was all pretence and all, but then, having sex with a man.” I paused and shook my head. “I can't bear this. It would have been better to lose you to a woman.” I said.

I still can't imagine losing him to a male. No matter how I thought of it, it didn't make sense. “I think you didn't quite hear what I said,” he said. He sat, pulling the sheet on himself.

I didn't think that was the case. I heard him deny me a while ago. But I decided to allow him to speak, my heart beating in trepidation. “You are just going to lie again.”

“For fucks sake, listen to me, woman,” he said, his voice a bit over the top. He clenched his teeth and tried to breathe. “I'm Neymar. Nicholas' identical twin brother. “ He emphasised each word. I raised a brow. I wasn't aware Nicholas had a twin.

Well, I didn't know him like that, so I couldn't quite conclude at this time. “And you are intruding in my space.” He said. The man close to him clinged onto him, and I felt something distasteful settle on my tongue. I apologised and stepped out of the room.

My mind was filled with various thoughts. These are things Debra should know. Well, I could simply hide under the guise of having lost my memory, but how long can I do that for? I headed straight back into my room. I sat on the bed.

Memories of how Nicholas had treated me last night rushed back into my mind, and I felt my heart squeeze. I had slept alone on my wedding night, and I suddenly felt like a fool for imagining how passionate the night would be when he didn't even want to be in the same space as me.

Without much thought, I went to sleep. The next time I woke up, it was to the sound of a knock. I rubbed my sleepy eyes and said, “Come in.” I said this to the person at the door. A woman in her late forties stepped into the room. Her hair was tied in a bum, and an apron was tied around her waist.

“Good afternoon, madam,” she said. She didn’t look like the other maids I had seen gossiping about me; I knew I had respect oozing out of her. “Lunch is ready. Would you like to eat here or in the dining room?” She asked.

I bit my lower lips, contemplating where to eat. It definitely wouldn't be at the dining room; I'd rather eat here than go eat where I am being watched and judged. And I didn't want to run into Neymar.

Sunrays streamed into the room from the window. “I'll have my food here,” I said. She was about to step out when she stopped and turned. Her hands were neatly tucked into the pocket in the front of her apron.

“I am head maid, Lucia; sorry for the late introduction.” She said her head was slightly bowed in respect. “I am the one in charge of managing the entire affair; if there's anything you want, I'm just a call away.” She said.

I nodded in acknowledgment and watched her walk out of the room. She came back with two other maids who held trays of food. They placed it on the top of the mahogany table in the room. It was more than I expected. I felt my eyes water as I watched the maid place them gently on the table.

My mind reverted to the past. I had never eaten so much at a time. I fed from hand to mouth, and now here I am. “Is everything okay? Do you not like the food?” Lucia, the head maid, asks in a calm and soothing voice. “Something flew into my eyes.” I lied and dabbed the corner of my eyes.

She apologised, though she wasn't at fault. After lunch, I was torn between what to do and what not to do. Before Lucia had left, I had asked her when Nicholas would be back. He may treat me badly, but I still want him. I wanted to be in his presence.

I stood in front of the mirror. My hair was a mess from the nap I had taken earlier. I sat and brushed my hair with my fingers. I hoped the day would go by quickly. I was already getting tired and bored. Nicholas would be back by 7 p.m. I hoped we could have dinner together.

I stood and walked to the window. I bite on my nails. I liked Nicholas. I know I shouldn't, as technically he isn't my husband or isn't supposed to be my husband, but I can't help it. I want him to want me. “I should make him fall for me.”

I walk back to the mirror, staring at my reflection. I comment, “I am not bad at looks.” Debra was a beautiful girl. The blonde hair and green eyes. The chiselled cheekbone and her perfect chin.

I shook my head and straightened my clothes with my hands; this wasn't Debra anymore. This was Diamond, and from what I remember, Debra wasn't in love with Nicholas; that's what she told me, and Nicholas wasn't in love with Debra, so I can make him fall for me. Diamond.

“But how?” I closed my eyes and opened them, then inhaled sharply. An idea suddenly hit me. I picked up my phone from the bed, opened Safari, and typed as quickly as I could, “How to get a man to fall in love with you, the real you.”

I breathed down and tapped on search. I tapped on the first article that popped up. I scrolled down, my brows furrowed, as I tried to take note of every suggestion that was made. I quickly made a list of things.

Dress attractively, cook for him, don't be rude, connect with him intellectually, work on eye contact, show off your talent, make lingering touches, and be pleasant and smile often.

I scribbled all this on a small sheet of paper and smiled. The article promised that there would be results from the first two weeks. I bit the cap of the pen as I stared at the list I had made. I would follow them one after the other.

First, dress nicely. Wear very attractive clothes, which would subtly provoke him. I would do just that. The wardrobe was already filled with different clothes. I just had to change into something really quick.

I first went into the bathroom to take a quick shower. Your smell is also important. I applied very light but noticeable makeup and styled my hair beautifully. I stepped out of my room to carry out the second function on the list. “I want to cook for my husband,” I said when I got to the kitchen.

The kitchen maids all raised their brows. Staring made me feel like I had gone mad. I walked past them and asked, "What's on the menu for dinner?” I asked. “Ma, you don't have to. We'll take care of this.” I squared my shoulders to look more bold. I am not used to being called ma or madam.

“I insist,” I said. They had no choice but to allow me to do what I wanted to do. I allowed them to assist me, but I remained the head. When everything was almost ready, I left them.

I thought the third tip was as good as done, as I have never been rude to him, and then the fourth seemed to scare me. From the look of things, Nicholas would be intelligent, and it's something I didn't think I could connect with.

I had to learn something about him. I thought of asking the maids, but it didn't make any sense to me. I'll find out about him myself. I decided to walk to his room. I asked a maid to point it out to me. I would be quick. Since he would return by seven p.m., I had an hour to search his room.

The door was locked when I arrived there. There should be a spare key, “Lucia. Get me the key to this room.” I said this when she came to stand close to me. She handed me the spare and left. I opened the room and stepped into it. It was bigger than I imagined it to be.

All exterior colours were white. It was cosy and clean. I walked to the bed and sat on it, creating a big crease on it. Then I laid on it and inhaled sharply, wanting to fill myself with his scent.

When I was satisfied, I walked to a table where a stack of files was. I brush through them; there must be something somewhere. I was so busy trying to find out something about him that I didn't notice someone entering the room.

“What are you doing here?” A familiar voice spoke, and my heart stopped beating.

Diamond's POVShortly after the private investigator had left, I felt somewhat happier, not entirely happy, but I felt my fears ease away. Surely I wouldn't be stuck in prison for most of all of my life. Now I just had to quietly serve my sentence in peace. I have no idea what will happen after that, but my life isn't entirely over. Sometime later, a guard brought some food for me to eat, which I did in silence. After that, no one disturbed me for anything till it was time for me to go back to prison. I was made to take a mugshot before going to prison, and all the time I didn't say a word even as I was given my new uniform, which was an orange jumpsuit without any belts. The reason there were no belts was to stop the prisoners from committing suicide. I wore my uniform and sat quietly. In the bus, I wasn't the only one going, so I had to see the other inmates; the rest of them seemed like hardened criminals, unlike me.I hoped no one would recognize my face as Debra's, so I said n

Diamond's POVI sat in a dark grey room with just a table and two chairs inside. Left alone, I had nothing but my thoughts to think of. Ever since I left the estate, I hadn't said a single word to anyone. No matter how many questions they asked me, I just kept quiet. They left me alone in the room after an hour of wasted interrogations. They probably figured out I needed time to get myself together, not that I had anything to get together in the first place.I was completely broken, shattered, and feeling mangled inside. I didn't know what to do, nor did I have anyone else to call or talk to. Nicholas was my world, the only reason I found being alive bearable, and now he hates me.A knock came from the door, distracting me from my thoughts. A man came inside, different from the person who came earlier to ask me questions. This man I knew was the one who came to take me away from my husband after all.He was the harbinger of my despair; he ruined my life, but strangely, I bore no en

Nicholas's POVI sat down in my room on the chair next to my table, deep in thought. My hair was a mess, my shirt was torn, left on the ground, and my tie was thrown in a direction I wasn't certain of.I felt overshadowed by grief and hate, and what hurt the most was betrayal. My feelings were too much of a mess to make sense of them. I had trusted her, the one woman I had trusted with everything in me.I gave out my soul and heart to her to protect and love her, to cherish and worship her, I adored her beyond myself. I loved her more than I would any walking human alive. And yet, she lied and deceived me.All this time, I had been faithful and loving to her. I had protected her and loved her, she had lied to me every day, her words were deceptions and her actions were falsehoods. The worst of them all was that I gave in; I believed in her; I thought she could do me no wrong; it wasn't possible that she would, and yet here I was distraught.I ignored her screams and pleas; I didn't w

I shouted at the top of my voice, but I was greeted with his back.He didn't turn to face me, nor did he care about me. I felt my world falling apart, my chest refusing to move, and my eyes flooded the carpet with tears. He was leaving me.He couldn't leave me.We loved each other too much, but there I was watching the man I lived for walk away from me with every step of the way. I cried his name out one last time."Nicholas!" But still, I was met with the eyes of others, looking at me pitifully. It wasn't supposed to happen like this, it shouldn't have gone this way.The officer called two other men and pointed at me. Seeing them walk toward me, a feeling of dread wrapped around my heart, leaving me in a state of panic. I turned around and scrambled toward Neymar."Neymar, you promised, you said he wouldn't hate me," I screamed

Nicholas's POV"What the fuck is happening in my house?" I shouted to get everyone's attention. The entire scene before me was a complete mess. First, I came into my estate and met two police cars waiting at the entrance of my door.Second, while I tried to talk with the officers and asked them what the purpose of their visit was, I saw Ivan standing inside my house, and he was casually laughing and talking to my wife, Debra.Surely I was seeing things, so I walked into the house, leaving the officers behind me, and I was shocked by what I saw.Neymar sitting down with Lucia standing behind him, an officer standing in the center of my living room with a computer on my table.Ivan and Debra, my wife, standing and laughing together, and lastly, I saw Debra again. At the same time, in the same place, I was looking at two women that looked exactly the same…body stature, build, height, face, everything was the same, which left me beyond confused. The officer walked up to me almost as imm

Diamond's POVI stood frozen in shock as I saw Ivan standing behind a woman that looked exactly like me. The room was deathly silent, not a single person said a word. I looked over at Neymar. He looked at me and the other woman that looked like me. Back and forth, his gaze switched between us. He staggered a bit before he struggled to sit down with Lucia's help.He clenched his chest, then doubled down, breathing deeply as if affected by the situation. Lucia rushed to his aid and brought a glass of water to calm him down.Ivan, on the other hand, looked at me with a coy smile on his face. As if to proclaim his victory, he waved at me with his right hand. The woman I supposed to be the real Debra watched me with hateful eyes…she glared at me, looking me up and down with hostility."Ma'am, if you will please come over here to verify your identity," the officer called out to me once again. My back was against the wall, and I had nowhere to run. I would be caught and arrested before I
