Richard

It was already afternoon when our plane touched down in Miami. The flight had been smooth and peaceful.

Emilia and I were now sitting in the back of a sleek black SUV, cruising through the city streets.

She was sitting quietly next to me, her head turned toward the window as she stared outside in awe.

I couldn’t help but smile as I watched her eyes light up and her mouth fall slightly open with every tall palm tree or colorful building we passed.

"First time in Miami?" I asked, leaning a little closer to her with a grin.

She didn’t take her eyes off the window when she answered. "First time anywhere, to be honest."

I raised an eyebrow. "Really? You’ve never been out of the city before?"

She shook her head and let out a small laugh. "Nope. Never had the chance."

"Wow," I said, genuinely surprised. "Well, I’m glad your first trip is with me then."

She turned her head and looked at me, smiling. Then she suddenly smacked me lightly on the arm. "You didn’t tell me you had a freakin

EmiliaI stepped into the hotel room—or suite, or whatever it was called—and my jaw almost dropped. The place was insane. Big wasn’t even the word. It was stunning. The kind of room you only see in magazines or movies. The floor was all marble, so shiny I could probably see my reflection if I looked down long enough. Right in the center of the ceiling, this massive chandelier hung down like it belonged in a palace. It sparkled like stars were trapped inside it.The walls were spotless and smooth, painted in this soft cream color that made the gold decorations pop even more. Every little thing in that room looked expensive. Even the handles on the drawers and cupboards—they weren’t just metal, they looked like real gold. I didn’t know if they were, but still, they had that kind of shine.I walked into the bedroom and paused right at the door. It was beautiful. The bed was huge—like, you could roll around for hours and still not fall off. The sheets were bright white and looked so fr

Sitting in economy didn’t help either. My knees were squashed the entire time, and no matter how I shifted, I couldn’t get comfortable. Every time I looked over at Nora, hoping she'd say something or even glance my way, she acted like I wasn’t even there. She had her earbuds in, reading some thick novel with a serious face, like we weren’t on the same row, like we hadn’t shared a million memories.I leaned in slightly, trying again.“Hey, are you gonna ignore me the whole trip?” I asked, keeping my voice low.She didn’t even take her eyes off the page.“I’m reading, Jayden,” she replied flatly.“I can see that,” I said, chuckling awkwardly. “You’ve been reading since takeoff.”“That’s because I don’t want to talk.”I sat back and shook my head. “Unbelievable.”Once we got off the

I smiled a little and brushed a strand of hair away from her face.“Emilia,” I said gently, my voice low. “It’s morning.”She stirred but didn’t open her eyes. “Just five more minutes,” she whispered, pulling the blanket closer.I chuckled, leaning down to kiss her forehead. “We have that meeting this morning with the partners.”She groaned lightly and rolled onto her back. “I know. I didn’t forget. I just feel… off.”That made me pause. “Off? What do you mean?”She opened her eyes slowly. “Like I’m gonna be sick. I feel lightheaded too. Probably just tired. Or maybe it’s the food from last night.”I sat up and placed a hand on her forehead. She didn’t feel hot, but I didn’t like how pale she looked. “You should rest,” I said. “Don’t push yourself. EmiliaAfter Richard left, I stayed in bed for a while with my hand resting on my stomach. I didn’t move much. Everything felt heavy. My eyes, my arms, even my heart. I turned on my side, hoping it would help, but it didn’t. The room felt too quiet, like it was pressing in on me.Another wave of nausea hit me hard, stronger than before. I covered my mouth with one hand and breathed through my nose. I didn’t know if it was the pregnancy or just stress, but either way, I knew I couldn’t stay like this forever.I pushed the blanket off and slowly sat up. I waited a second as my head spun a little, then stood up on shaky legs. My feet touched the cold floor, making me shiver a little. I walked slowly to the bathroom and turned on the water. When I let the cold water run over my hands and splash my face, I gasped. It was freezing. But honestly, it helped. The cold pulled me out of that dull feeling. I let the water run down my arms and leaned over the sink, just breathing. After a while, I

Richard’s POVThe beeping of the monitor was the only sound in the sterile hospital room. It kept rhythm with my pulse, reminding me that Emilia was still here, that she was still alive. I sat beside her, holding her hand gently, watching her sleep. She looked so peaceful, but I knew better. I knew the fear and anxiety she must have been feeling before all this happened. And I couldn’t stop blaming myself for it.I kept staring at her face. It hurt to see her like this. I had no idea things would go this far. I shouldn’t have agreed to that drink with Nora. I should have said no, walked away, gone straight back to my room. But I didn’t. And now look where that got me.I leaned closer and brushed a strand of hair away from Emilia’s forehead.“I’m sorry,” I whispered. “I swear I didn’t mean for any of this to happen.”There was no response. The nurse stepped in quietly and checked the monitor. Richard’s POVThe room was silent again, all that could be heard was the soft beeping of the machines and the occasional rustling of the bed sheets as Emilia shifted slightly. I just sat there, watching her, not knowing what to say next. The weight of everything, the fight, the lies, the secrets, hung heavily between us. But I had to try, I had to make things right. After what felt like an eternity, it was Emilia who broke the silence. Her voice was weak, barely above a whisper, but I could tell she had been thinking about what had happened.“Why didn’t you tell me about Nora?” she asked, her eyes still closed, but I could see the hurt in her voice. “Why didn’t you tell me the truth?”I flinched at the question. My gaze dropped to our intertwined hands, and I squeezed her fingers gently, almost as if I could offer her some comfort through that small touch.“I didn’t want you to feel insecure about her presence,” I said softly, choosing my words carefully. “Nora’s part of my past,
