Emilia

The morning after the fundraiser, everything felt like a blur.

I was still trying to process the events of the night before. The fundraiser had been full of surprises, from meeting new faces to the sudden arrival of Elena Smith.

The way she had stepped into the spotlight and o was now sure that she planned to take over her father’s position at Kane Group. The fact that she was Katherine’s sister and Marcus Smith’s daughter made it even more complicated.

Something about her presence made me uneasy. I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more going on than I could see.

The day started like any other, or at least it should have.

We were heading into a board meeting, a usual part of Richard’s routine, but today felt different.

It was about the expansion of Kane Group, a big deal for the company, but I couldn’t focus.

There was too much on my mind. Maybe it was because of her sudden appearance, or perhaps it was Jayden's presence

Whatever it was, I couldn’t shake the sense

EmiliaAfter my brief little talk with Elena, I said to myself I wasn’t going to let her get under my skin. I had already had enough of everyone who were trying to intimidate me just because they had a fancier last name or a bigger title.I wasn’t here to play games or prove anything to anyone, no not anymore. I had my husband's support, I knew what I was doing, and if I am being honest, I had enough on my head without having to worry about Elena Smith and her quiet threats. So I took a very deep and long breath, straightened my composure, and pushed everything she said to the back of my head. If she wanted a fight, she’d have to come a bit harder than that. I wasn’t backing down, not now or ever.As I made my way across the hallway, I walked by one of the newer employees, a shy young guy from the finance department. I actually recalled his name, Daniel. He looked like he was trying to decide whether to talk or just keep moving.“Good morning, Daniel,” I greeted him with a little smil

RichardThe office felt weirdly tense and the air was thick with the weight of the discussions that had already taken place. I sat at the large wooden table in Elena office, across from her and Emilia was present as well. She seemeda bit odd, I assume I had something to do with my mother'sunexpected visit. The tension between Elena and Emilia was subtle but not unnoticeable, a quiet clash of strong wills that neither of them even tried to hide. I couldn’t blame Emilia for being wary of Elena. After all, Elena was a Smith and Katherine's sister and she hasn't had much fun with that family.“Richard,” Elena began withher voice smooth and controlled, “as we look at expanding the company even further, I think we need put some focus on streamlining our resources. Some departments need restructuring if we want to scale properly. This isn’t just about growth, it’s also about stability.”I nodded, my mind already processing the details of her proposal. “I agree. The new subsidiary needs to

JaydenI walked into Elena’s office, the meeting alongside a feeling, a familiar mix of both annoyance and frustration. I wonder, why do i even have to be here in the first place. The last thing I needed to do today was sit through another one of these boring corporate discussions. I didn’t care about the bloody expansion. I didn’t care about the company’s long-term goals or whatever. All I cared about was getting what I want and only what I want.I looked around as I entered the room. Richard sat at the head of the table, his usual intimidating presence filling the space. Beside him, Emilia sat quietly, looking just as perfect and composed as always. I could feel the tension between them, but I wasn’t here for that. I was here to do my part. I had to, whether I liked it or not.But the way Richard just stared at me, like he was questioning me, it bothered me. It was very subtle but I could tell. He had been giving me that look lately like he was trying to figure me out or something,

Emilia"Is everything set?" Richard’s voice echoed from the kitchen, louder than usual."Yes, the table is set!" I called back making sure my voice was loud enough so he could hear me.I stepped back a little and took a moment to admire the dining table. I had put in a lot of effort, and it definitely showed. The table looked beautiful it was almost like something out of a magazine. There were red roses placed on both sides, giving the whole setting a soft, romantic feel. Each plate, white marble with a smooth shine was surrounded by silver spoons, forks, and knives, all lined up perfectly. The dining towels were red too with a shiny gold stripe running down the middle. It felt fancy, like the kind of setup rich people like Richard probably grew up with. But one thing kept bothering me, why was Richard always the one cooking? He had a housekeeper, but she never touched the kitchen. Every time we had guests or even when it was just the two of us Richard insisted on doing it all himsel

EmiliaI sat at the far end of the table, as far away from Richard as I could manage without being obvious about it. My heart felt heavy, and I knew exactly why, Richard’s mother was sitting right next to him on his right side, while Jacob sat beside him on his left. Elena, always playing the perfect part, was seated beside his mother, the perfect picture of someone who belonged. The food in front of me seemed like it would never end, but I forced myself to keep eating. I stabbed at the turkey on my plate, cutting a piece and putting it in my mouth mechanically. The same process over and over again. I could feel the weight of Richard’s family bearing down on me, but I refused to look up or say anything. If I just kept eating, maybe they’d stop looking at me. Maybe, just maybe, they’d leave me alone. But that wasn’t the case. I could feel Richard’s mother’s eyes on me, a constant, piercing gaze that seemed to judge every move I made. I cut another piece of turkey, but before I could

EmiliaSomething inside of me snapped. It wasn’t just the words she had spoken. It was everything, The pressure, the words, the stares—it all became too much. I felt my chest tighten, and the constant judgment, the subtle insults, the way Richard’s mother had made me feel less than, every single time. My hands began to tremble under the table. My throat burned with anger, but it wasn’t just that—it was pain too. Deep pain.I could feel my chest tighten, my hands tremble, and my heart beat faster. My blood was boiling as I looked directly at her. And before I could stop myself, I just lost it.“How dare you accuse me of something like that?” I snapped, my voice loud and shaking with anger. “Do you have any idea what you're accusing me of, huh?”My face was red now, and my vision blurred from the hot rush of emotion that flooded over me. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. This was a new low. The woman who was supposed to be Richard’s mother, the one who should’ve been supportiv

RichardI stood there, staring down at my plate. My mind felt numb, and my body was stiff with anger. I didn’t know what to do, what to feel, or even how to react. I glanced over at my mother. She sat there, completely unfazed, like she hadn’t just ripped my wife apart emotionally.Emilia was still sobbing quietly. I could hear the soft sounds of her tears, and every one of them hit me like a slap. How could my mother do this? How could she say those things, attack the woman I loved so mercilessly? Then, suddenly, everything went quiet. Emilia stopped crying, and I looked up just in time to see her stand. Her face was red and swollen from the tears, and her eyes were filled with pain. I could see the hurt in them, but she didn’t say a word."I think I’m full," she said, her voice shaky, barely a whisper. She didn’t even look at me. "I’m just gonna go to bed now," she added, turning around to leave.I opened my mouth, about to call out to her, but the words got stuck in my throat. I

RichardAs I stepped inside the building, the usual buzzing and soft chattering of employees filled the air. The sound was almost comforting. The hum if a productive office, phones ringing, shoes tapped against the tiled floor, keyboards clicked nonstop, it was the typical morning scene at Kane Group. Most days, I would pause for just a moment right at the entrance. I had this habit of stopping, lifting my head slightly, and waiting for people to notice me. That slight pause always made them hurry back to their workstations, pretending they hadn’t just been chatting or joking around seconds ago.But today... today was different. I wasn't paying attention to any of that. My mind was elsewhere.I didn’t stop.I didn’t wait for anyone to notice me.I just walked straight in, my head slightly lowered, my eyes fixed on the ground ahead of me. A few murmurs all around my but I couldn't care less. Thoughts ran wild in my head. My head was preoccupied with a thousand things at once and non

RichardThe morning sun slipped through the curtains, warm and soft on my face. I turned over slowly and saw Emilia curled up beside me, still asleep. Her breathing was soft, calm. I smiled a little and brushed a strand of hair away from her face.“Emilia,” I said gently, my voice low. “It’s morning.”She stirred but didn’t open her eyes. “Just five more minutes,” she whispered, pulling the blanket closer.I chuckled, leaning down to kiss her forehead. “We have that meeting this morning with the partners.”She groaned lightly and rolled onto her back. “I know. I didn’t forget. I just feel… off.”That made me pause. “Off? What do you mean?”She opened her eyes slowly. “Like I’m gonna be sick. I feel lightheaded too. Probably just tired. Or maybe it’s the food from last night.”I sat up and placed a hand on her forehead. She didn’t feel hot, but I didn’t like how pale she looked. “You should rest,” I said. “Don’t push yourself. I can go without you.”“But—”“No buts,” I said firmly. “I’

JaydenThe second our plane landed in Miami, I let out a long sigh and stretched my legs under the cramped seat."Finally," I muttered, rubbing the back of my neck. The flight had felt like it lasted forever. Sitting in economy didn’t help either. My knees were squashed the entire time, and no matter how I shifted, I couldn’t get comfortable. Every time I looked over at Nora, hoping she'd say something or even glance my way, she acted like I wasn’t even there. She had her earbuds in, reading some thick novel with a serious face, like we weren’t on the same row, like we hadn’t shared a million memories.I leaned in slightly, trying again.“Hey, are you gonna ignore me the whole trip?” I asked, keeping my voice low.She didn’t even take her eyes off the page.“I’m reading, Jayden,” she replied flatly.“I can see that,” I said, chuckling awkwardly. “You’ve been reading since takeoff.”“That’s because I don’t want to talk.”I sat back and shook my head. “Unbelievable.”Once we got off the

EmiliaI stepped into the hotel room—or suite, or whatever it was called—and my jaw almost dropped. The place was insane. Big wasn’t even the word. It was stunning. The kind of room you only see in magazines or movies. The floor was all marble, so shiny I could probably see my reflection if I looked down long enough. Right in the center of the ceiling, this massive chandelier hung down like it belonged in a palace. It sparkled like stars were trapped inside it.The walls were spotless and smooth, painted in this soft cream color that made the gold decorations pop even more. Every little thing in that room looked expensive. Even the handles on the drawers and cupboards—they weren’t just metal, they looked like real gold. I didn’t know if they were, but still, they had that kind of shine.I walked into the bedroom and paused right at the door. It was beautiful. The bed was huge—like, you could roll around for hours and still not fall off. The sheets were bright white and looked so fr

RichardIt was already afternoon when our plane touched down in Miami. The flight had been smooth and peaceful.Emilia and I were now sitting in the back of a sleek black SUV, cruising through the city streets. She was sitting quietly next to me, her head turned toward the window as she stared outside in awe.I couldn’t help but smile as I watched her eyes light up and her mouth fall slightly open with every tall palm tree or colorful building we passed."First time in Miami?" I asked, leaning a little closer to her with a grin. She didn’t take her eyes off the window when she answered. "First time anywhere, to be honest."I raised an eyebrow. "Really? You’ve never been out of the city before?"She shook her head and let out a small laugh. "Nope. Never had the chance.""Wow," I said, genuinely surprised. "Well, I’m glad your first trip is with me then."She turned her head and looked at me, smiling. Then she suddenly smacked me lightly on the arm. "You didn’t tell me you had a freakin

EmiliaI took the elevator and made my way up to my office. Just as I was about to walk in, my secretary stood up from her desk and gently stepped in front of me."Excuse me, Mrs. Kane," she said, holding a small tablet in her hand. "You have a new schedule today."I stopped, slightly confused. "What new schedule? I thought I was done for the day."She tapped quickly on her tablet, her eyes scanning the screen. "There's an impromptu board meeting. I just got the update. It’s scheduled for 1 PM."I glanced at the clock on the wall behind her. It was already 12:50."1 PM? That’s in ten minutes," I said, raising an eyebrow. "Do you know who called the meeting?"She typed a bit more, then looked up. "It was... Mrs. Smith."I didn’t even try to hide the frown that formed on my face. "Of course it was," I muttered.Without another word, I turned around and headed into my office to grab a file and straighten up. I didn’t want to give Elena the satisfaction of seeing me caught off guard.---

EmiliaDinner last night was a disaster. I was attacked by Richard's mum and that smug called Elena, head on.Even Richard's cousin Jacob insulted me. I wonder why his family decided to pick on me, even suggested that my child isn't his. What the hell??Last night was an absolute disaster, A full-on nightmareBut like every bad dream, the morning always comes. And when it does, I shake it off. I move on.I knew what Emelda and Elena were trying to do. Their plan was clever, I'll give them that but it was very petty. They wanted to humiliate me, to make me feel small, like I didn’t belong. They might have gottento me last night but I wasn’t going to let it stick. I wasn’t going to let two bored women with too much time on their hands ruin my peace. Not after everything I’ve been through.I wasn’t going to let any of them see me flinch. So today, I made sure to look like I was glowing.I wore a sleek, fitted dress , black, simple, elegant. My heels clicked confidently on the floor as I

RichardHer expression shifted for a moment. It was small, barely noticeable, but I caught it. There was something in her eyes. A flicker of hesitation, maybe even discomfort. She opened her mouth to say something but paused, like she was trying to find the right words. That told me everything I needed to know. This wasn’t just a casual chat.Nora had never been the type to hesitate. She was sharp, always composed. So seeing her like this—unsure, quiet, almost nervous—was new. And it made me curious.I hadn’t spoken to her in a long time. The last time we saw each other... things were complicated, to say the least. We hadn’t parted on bad terms, but there was unfinished business, words left unsaid. Now here she was again, standing in front of me, looking like she had something important to say.“I just...” She stopped and looked down briefly, then back at me. “I wanted to catch up, Richard.”Her voice was softer than usual, but it was still steady. She forced a small smile, though it

Elena I walked into my office with a slight smile on my lips. Last night had gone exactly how I wanted. Emilia was shattered. I could see it in her eyes. Every word Emelda said at that dinner, every glance chuckle I had, every smirk, I did it on purpose. And it worked. She was falling apart. I slipped off my coat and hung it carefully on the brass hook behind my door. As I turned, my reflection caught my eye in the large glass window. I paused and looked at myself, perfect makeup, flawless hair, fitted dress. Powerful. Beautiful. Intimidating. I moved to my desk and sat down, slowly crossing one leg over the other. I opened my laptop, but I wasn’t really reading the emails. My mind was still at the dinner last night. Emilia had looked like a deer caught in headlights. She didn’t fight back. She just sat there, quiet, eyes dull, like someone who had finally realized she didn’t belong. She’s breaking. She’s going to leave on her own. And when she does, I will finally break her ju

RichardI felt a little bit of relief now. Emilia seemed okay, and I was okay too. After everything that happened, after all the shouting, the hurt feelings, the coldness between us,just hearing her voice so calm and seeing her smile again made me breathe easier. It was like a heavy weight had been lifted off my chest. Things weren’t perfect yet, but they were better. And that was enough for now.I leaned back a little and looked at her. She was seated on the couch in her office, her hands gently resting on her desk. She looked calm, peaceful even, but I knew her well enough to still be worried. What happened last night wasn't something anyone could easily brush off, especially not her. But still, she had this strong way of holding herself together."I'll make it up to you, I promise," I said, keeping my voice low and sincere. I meant it with every part of me. She deserved that, at the very least."With what? A French toast?" She teased as she gave me a wink."Okay, good one," I co
