I let out a long, controlled sigh as I watched Esther, my younger sister, arranging her bags in the room. Despite being siblings, there were moments when I forgot how relentless she could be, her temperament often mirroring my own.
"Did you have to make that scene?" I asked, crossing my arms and staring at her seriously.
"What scene, Ethan?" She turned around, raising an eyebrow with a hint of challenge.
"That thing you did in front of Mia," I replied, trying to keep my tone controlled, but unable to completely hide my irritation.
Esther looked at me with that analytical gaze that always made me feel like I was under a magnifying glass. "She's human. I just found it strange, Ethan. You never brought women into this house, which used to be our parents', let alone a human."
I knew she was right. This house was sacred to us, a place that carried memories of our family, and I had always kept it closed off, even to myself. Bringing Mia here, letting her into my life and the house where we grew up, was something I had never done before, with any woman. But I couldn’t find the right words to explain this to Esther.
"I know," I admitted, sighing deeply. "You could've told me you were coming."
"Don't change the subject, Ethan," she shot back, her gaze piercing mine with intensity. "Who is she? And what is she doing here?"
I ran my hands through my hair, feeling the weight of everything I was hiding, even from myself. "It's complicated, Esther. I don't even know where to begin..." The words came out as a whisper, as if speaking them aloud would make everything more real.
Esther continued to watch me, her eyes narrowing slightly as though she was trying to unravel what I was withholding. I knew that, as Alpha, I was supposed to be firm and decisive, and that even my own sister should show me respect. But the weight of the secret I was carrying was suffocating, and I still didn’t know how to tell her that, by fate’s hand, she now had a hybrid nephew, a child who not only shared my blood but was also part human.
I knew I would have to find the right moment to tell her, but the tension was building, and the idea of keeping this secret any longer was unbearable. So, I decided to just get it over with.
"Mia has my son," I blurted out, the words coming faster than I intended.
Esther’s eyes widened, staring at me as though I had just told her the most absurd and unexpected thing she had ever heard. It was as if I had dropped a bomb in the middle of our conversation.
"What do you mean? Is she pregnant?" Her voice came out incredulously, shock written all over her face.
"No," I sighed, feeling the weight of the revelation even more now that it was out in the open. "My son’s name is Lorenzo, and he’s two years old."
For a moment, Esther stood in silence, trying to process the information. When she finally spoke, her voice was filled with surprise and confusion.
"You have a two-year-old son and you never told me? Why, Ethan? Why did the Alpha of the pack keep this from me... from all of us?" She seemed deeply shaken, her posture rigid as she tried to understand how something so significant had been kept a secret. "I'm your sister, for crying out loud."
"And I am here as your Alpha. I demand respect."
I took a deep breath, knowing I needed to explain the situation clearly and directly.
"I didn’t know he existed until recently," I began, struggling to put into words something that still felt surreal. "Mia and I had... one night together, two years ago, at the bar I now own. She came to me for personal reasons, and we got involved. But after that, we went our separate ways. She went back to her life, and I went back to mine, not knowing Lorenzo had been born."
Esther was still processing everything, but continued to look at me with a mix of shock and confusion. "And how did you find out? Why didn’t she tell you before?"
"She didn’t know I was... different. That I was a wolf," I explained, each word heavy. "Mia was living her life, far from this world, until Lorenzo was kidnapped. That’s when she came to me, desperate for help, and that’s when I discovered the truth. Lorenzo is my son, and now we’re all involved in something much bigger."
She crossed her arms, trying to digest the situation. "And now? What are you going to do?"
"I’m going to protect them, Esther. Both of them," I replied, with a firmness that even surprised me. "No matter what happens, Lorenzo is my son, and Mia... Mia is now under my protection."
Esther stood in silence for a moment, processing this new reality. I knew it was a lot for her to take in, but I also knew she would understand the importance of it. I was the Alpha, and now I had a new role to play – that of a father, even though it was a responsibility I never imagined I would bear.
I should have known I was in deep trouble. But all of this was real, and there was no ignoring it.
Esther had always supported me. She was just a teenager when our parents died, and I had to deal with raising a sister, taking charge of a pack, and while my life was spinning out of control, I still found strength to try to be the father she had lost.
She went to study in New York, since she didn’t agree with the rules of our pack. A wolf was meant to mate, find a partner, and have pups. Esther didn’t want any of that, she was a free spirit.
"I want to meet my nephew," she said.
"Later. He’s sleeping, go rest."
She stared at me for a few seconds, and before I left the room, she said, "You screwed her, didn’t you?" She laughed.
"Show me some respect, girl," I threw a pillow at her.
"She was half-naked. With a shirt and her clothes in her hands. Don’t be a hypocrite."
"This won’t happen again. Mia is just the mother of my child, and I’ll keep her under my control until the danger that caused Lorenzo’s kidnapping is over."
I left Esther’s room, closing the door with a sigh. My mind was racing, trying to process everything that had happened in the last few hours. I could still smell her on my body.
When I approached the office, I stopped when I saw Mia inside, sitting in my chair, holding her phone. The tension between us was palpable, a mixture of unresolved desire and the pressure of what we were facing.
"I got a message," she said, getting straight to the point, showing me the screen of her phone.
I walked up, taking the device from her hands and reading the text. The words were direct and threatening: "This isn’t over. You may have gotten Lorenzo back, but you’re still in our game. You are the main piece."
My jaw tightened as I read those words. The message was clear, and the problem wasn’t just about me or being the Alpha. Mia was the target, and that made everything even more complicated.
"Who the hell sent this?" I asked, trying to keep my voice calm, though I could feel my wolf stirring with the need to protect.
"I don’t know," she answered, confusion and fear evident in her eyes. "I thought everything was over, that Lorenzo was safe now, but..."
I looked at Mia, realizing that the real danger was tied to something she didn’t even understand. I needed to figure out what was going on, but above all, I needed to protect her and protect our baby.
"This isn’t just about Lorenzo," I said, handing her the phone back. "There’s something bigger going on here, and it involves you. We need to find out what it is before it’s too late."
Mia nodded, her gaze still fixed on me, as if she was looking for answers. The atmosphere between us was strange, charged with everything we hadn’t resolved, but we both knew we needed to put it all aside, at least for now.
"I’ll protect you, human," I said firmly, more to convince myself than to reassure her. "I’ll protect you and Lorenzo, no matter what happens."
She looked at me for a long moment, as if trying to understand just how far I was willing to go to keep my promise.
When she left the office, barely able to look me in the eye, I immediately dialed Nick.
"Nick, find out everything about Mia Miller’s past! Make it a priority."
I knew that if I wanted to get to the bottom of this, I needed to investigate.
Mia MillerI couldn’t close my eyes all night. Every time I felt like I might finally fall asleep, Lorenzo came to my mind. When the sun rose, my stomach turned. I hadn’t been able to eat anything since that damned kidnapping.A knock at the door interrupted my thoughts.“Miss Mia,” the middle-aged woman entered the room with a breakfast tray. “Alpha Darius asked me to bring this to you.”“I don’t want to eat, thank you.”“Miss, those are your father’s orders. Please, eat something,” she said, looking at me.I stared at her. Her eyes seemed sincere. And if I wanted to escape this place, I had to eat. I needed to be strong.“Thank you.”“Claire,” she said with a smile. “That’s my name. If you need anything, just call me.”She seemed like a good person.I devoured the breakfast tray. I was starving. Then I heard footsteps coming toward the room I was in.It was him. The Alpha of Silverclaw. Darius—my biological father. He was tall, with brown hair and tanned skin. His body was ripped, l
Mia MillerMy eyes are blindfolded. I can’t see anything, no trace of where I might be. I only know that I am in a moving car, and I want to get out of here. I try to scream, but I feel weak; he sprayed something inside the car as soon as I got in. I clasp my hands together and ask... if the Moon Goddess, who they always talk about in the pack, really exists, to save me from this and take me back to Lorenzo. The car stopped abruptly. I felt the weight of the silence around me, except for the sound of my rapid heartbeat. Still with my eyes covered, fear coursed through my veins like poison. The doors opened, and I immediately felt rough hands pulling me out, without any gentleness.“Let me go!” I tried to scream, but my voice came out weak. The substance he used in the car still made me dizzy, my body felt slow and heavy. I was dragged over what seemed to be dirt ground. I could hear the rustling of leaves beneath my feet, the wind shaking the trees. Was it a forest? The scent of wolves
Mia MillerThat kiss awakened feelings in me that I thought had died. I knew it was forbidden, I knew he wasn't right for me. That everything was a mistake. But they always told me that the forbidden was more enticing. And even though I knew the Alpha wasn't the person who would make me happy, I gave myself completely. His touches… his warm mouth on mine. Skin on skin. I didn’t know how to react to all of it. On that terrace, naked, looking at the moonlight, I couldn’t think of anything bad. Only the present moment. His fingers were sliding down my body, caressing my waist. I felt something different, like a primitive instinct I didn’t even know existed was taking over me. I was a wolf. And it was hard to accept that. I was in denial. But when I smelled his scent, I forgot everything. While we looked at the starry sky, I broke the silence.“What do you feel for me?” I let the question slip out.“What kind of question is that now?” He smiled faintly.“Just answer, Ethan.”He stood up,
Ethan Greenwood. I hated the feeling of being pressured. Alphas were made to give orders, command, and control their pack, not be pressured.I was in one of the offices inherited from my father. We were respected throughout the city because my father had many businesses here, and all the wolves, humans, whoever they were, respected the Greenwood name. This situation would never have happened with my father. The feared Alpha. For a long time, I thought I was like him. But if I had to choose between marrying a she-wolf I couldn’t stand and protecting my son, I would choose the latter."Alpha." Nick entered the office with the phone in hand."What is it?" I stared at him."The leader of the pack wants to talk to you, Ethan."Oh no... What does that son of a bitch want?I grabbed the phone from the beta’s hands quickly. I was ready to tell him a few choice words."What do you want?" I said through gritted teeth."Is that how you talk to old friends, Alpha Greenwood?""We’re not friends.
Mia Miller "So I have to know how to dodge several wolves in a possible attack?" I ask, leaning toward Ethan."If you want to stay alive, yes," he whispers. The training with Ethan continued. I had been trying to avoid him, but it was impossible. He was the father of my child, and we lived in the same environment. As much as I wanted to avoid him with all my heart, I couldn’t.We paused the training to catch our breath. I glanced at him from the corner of my eye. His sweaty body revealed his perfectly toned abs, and his hair was almost wet with sweat. It was hard to look at Ethan Greenwood without wanting him."When can I go back to the city?" I asked, breaking the silence between us."As soon as it’s safe," he said in monosyllabic words."The people... Well, the wolves here don’t like me, Ethan. And they make that pretty clear. And then there’s Amber.""You care too much about others, Mia. What matters is that I’m the Alpha, and I’m in charge here. You’re the mother of my firstborn.
Mia MillerI think more painful than loving someone and having it go wrong is liking someone and knowing, deep down, that it will never work. This was the suffocating feeling that surrounded me every time I looked at Ethan. He was in all my thoughts, every second of my day. Ethan was the first thought when I woke up, and the last when my head touched the pillow at night. Even though everything in me screamed to stay away, to protect myself from a feeling with no future, I couldn’t. He was a jerk, selfish, and yet, irresistibly a part of me.How did I let this happen? At first, it was supposed to be just one night. A damn night. Nothing more. I went into his arms seeking comfort, trying to escape the pain caused by Collin’s betrayal. But somehow, everything turned into this—a tangle of complicated emotions, a confusion of desires and resentments. Now, I was trapped, connected to him in a way I could never undo.My gaze shifted to Lorenzo, playfully messing with his toys on the floor. T
Ethan GreenwoodThe sun was rising on the horizon, its soft rays filtering through the trees that surrounded our territory. The cold air brought a sense of calm, a peace I rarely felt lately. Mia and Lorenzo were safe here, but the tranquility felt more like an illusion, a prelude to something dark that was to come. The training with Mia went better than I expected. She was strong; we just needed to refine her skills. As I watched the pack training in the distance, I felt my phone vibrate in the pocket of my jacket. The number was from Nick, always pragmatic and direct. I answered on the second ring, already feeling the weight of concern."Alpha," his voice was graver than usual, "we need to talk. Now. I’ll come to you."An alert ran through my body. "What happened?" I asked, feeling the tension rise."Talk on the phone, Beta, I don't have time," Nick paused, which only heightened my anxiety."We received a message from the Blackthorn pack. They’re moving against us."My body immediat
Mia MillerMy body was completely tense. I had never practiced any kind of training; I considered myself weak. The clearing in front of us seemed serene, as if waiting for something to happen. I, however, was far from feeling calm. Ethan had spoken about "training" as if it were simple, but the truth was, I could hardly imagine taking the first step. What did he expect from me?"You'll have to be patient, Mia. The process of transformation doesn't happen overnight. It takes time for your body and mind to accept your nature," he said, as if he could read my thoughts.I crossed my arms, feeling the tension rise in my shoulders. "So, what exactly do you want me to do? Just... transform? Like it’s that easy?"Ethan looked at me seriously, his blue eyes sparkling. "No one said it would be easy. But the more you resist, the harder it will be. You need to start accepting who you really are, and that means awakening the wolf inside you."Those words echoed in my mind. Accept who I really am.
Mia MillerHave you ever felt out of place, as if everything you knew about yourself was a lie? That feeling of urgency in your chest, wanting to change everything happening around you, but you couldn’t, because it was real… That’s exactly how I felt. It’s strange how, in the blink of an eye, your life can go from normal to a whirlwind."Get up, Mia," I heard, as the light flooded my eyes. I looked to the side and saw Ethan’s figure. Great. I never had peace."What’s up?" I mumbled. "It must still be early." He had slept here, on the couch, of course, after our argument last night."I’m taking you to our training grounds.""Training?" I raised an eyebrow. "Do wolves train?""Obviously. We need to get stronger and improve our skills whenever we can."I looked around. Lorenzo was still asleep."Why did you wake me up?""I wanted to kiss you. Will you let me?" He said, making me widen my eyes.I almost fell over at the sound of his voice saying those words."Just kidding, human. Get read
