Chapter 44

Christian's POV

She didn't move. There was no indication that life was in still in her body if not for her standing posture. Dead people didn't stand.

"Mother." I called to get her attention, to make sure she was okay. I knew I wasn't supposed to tell her, this was what I had been avoiding. But it was better and easier for her to find out from me than from someone else. She would be less hurt that way.

"Mum." I called again, moving closer to her. "Are you okay?"

She blinked twice, to confirm she was alive and then looked at me with pain in her eyes.

"What do you mean it's back?" She asked. "The doctor assured us that it wouldn't return. It is not supposed to return, Christian."

"I know mum." I said, trying not to sound worried. "Both of us being worried at the same time wouldn't help anybody. But it is back." I continued. "I'll just have to learn to deal with it."

She shook her head vigorously, dropping her bags on the floor and cupping my face in her hands
