Chapter 2

"She's late?"

Woody was a little surprised to see an empty road ahead of him. The scenario that he had expected didn't happen.

Pamela had promised that she would be there to welcome him and give him a warm embrace the moment he was released. But she wasn't there.

However, Woody didn't mind it. He'd rather she drive slowly and stay safe. So he stood there and waited in silence.

It wasn't until the sun had set and a light shower began drizzling down that a car slowly drove toward him from down the road.

When the car pulled up beside him, Woody quickly hurried over. However, the person who got out of the car wasn't his wife, Pamela. Instead, it was her best friend, Miriam Warren.

"Miriam, why are you here? Where's Pamela?" Woody was surprised to see her.

Miriam walked over indifferently with an umbrella in her hand. "Ms. York isn't here today. I'm her secretary. She wanted me to pass this to you."

She opened up a document file and showed it to Woody. He was greeted by a jarring header. It was a divorce agreement!

Caught off guard, Woody chuckled. "Quit fooling around. Come on, tell Pamela to come on out!"

A contemptuous look flashed across Miriam's face, and she said coldly, "No one's fooling around, Woody! Society isn't as you think it is anymore! You're no longer good enough to be with Ms. York!"

"What's that supposed to mean?" Woody looked straight into her eyes.

Miriam continued flatly, "You and Ms. York are now of entirely different social standing. She's now doing amazing in the business sector with a net worth of at least several billion dollars. They call her the prettiest CEO in Tiusto City!

"Your background will affect Ms. York's reputation and company, so if you know what's good for both of you, you should take the initiative to stay away from her. Do not be a hindrance to her!"

"And what background is that?" Woody asked.

"You're an ex-convict! Ms. York is an up-and-rising star in the business sector, and she's got all eyes on her! She rides sports cars and lives in lavish hotels, and she has connections with all the rich and famous in the elite circle!

"And look at you! Wake up! Do you think you're good enough for her?" Miriam huffed in disdain.

Woody tried his best to suppress his anger as he countered, "Are you not aware of the reason I ended up in prison?"

Miriam scoffed and answered meanly, "At the end of the day, all you're after is money, isn't it? How much do you think you're worth? Name your price. Ms. York has no lack of money now."

Woody's gaze became increasingly cold. "Get Pamela to talk to me. In person."

"There's no need to bother Ms. York over such a small matter. She's a busy person with important people to meet."

"So you consider divorce a small matter? So trivial that she doesn't even have time to meet me? How arrogant of her!"

Miriam was instantly angered. "Woody Henderson! You'd better know what's good for you!

"Many things have changed in the time that you were away! Things far beyond your understanding. So what if she meets you? Nobody can change Ms. York's decision!

"If you agree to the divorce, you will be getting a house, a car, and an additional three million dollars in cash! This is Ms. York's repayment for you. Even if you do not agree to it, nothing will change. The outcome will remain the same.

"To tell you the truth, the scion of Donnel Corporations is wooing Ms. York, and she's ready to accept him."

"Donnel Corporations? You mean Kurt Donnel?"

"That's right! It's him. I'm sure you know very well how the Donnel family always gets what they want. You know what's going to happen to you if you keep hanging around Ms. York," Miriam threatened.

Woody clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

Kurt Donnel was the scumbag who had barged into Pamela's dressing room back then. He was the reason why Woody ended up in prison for four whole years.
