Chapter 74

Eleanor's POV

I called the investigator as soon as I arrived at the office the following morning.

The photographs he had sent me the previous evening were still fresh in my mind. I had studied them several times, hoping to recognize the man standing beside Lara, but his face remained unfamiliar. Whatever their relationship was, I couldn't understand why she had gone to such lengths to keep their meeting private.

“Have you found anything else?” I asked when he answered.

“I'm still loo

  • Oops! My Ex-Wife Is Now My Boss   Visit.

Chapter 82Eleanor's POVIt had been a few days since Julian moved out, and I was beginning to realise how much his presence had become part of my everyday life. The house was quieter without him. I no longer ran into him in the kitchen in the mornings or heard him moving around downstairs when I returned from work. Even our occasional disagreements had become part of the routine, and his absence left an uncomfortable silence I hadn't expected.I told myself I was only going to visit because I wanted to see how he had settled into his new apartment. There was no particular reason to make the trip, and I certainly wasn't going because I missed having him around. At least, that was what I kept telling myself.I arrived shortly after five in the evening. Julian's apartment was in a modern residential building, with a private entrance and a security desk in the lobby. I called him when I reached his floor, and he opened the door before I could knock a second time.He looked surprised to s

  • Oops! My Ex-Wife Is Now My Boss   Confession again

Chapter 81Ryan's POVThe question caught me off guard, not this time again.Claire stared at me, clearly unsure whether I was serious."Why would you ask me that?""Because you've been acting differently around me since you saw us together. I thought perhaps you wanted to ask about her but didn't know how to bring it up."She looked away, adjusting the strap of her handbag."I don't think it's any of my business who you spend your time with. I've been acting different ever since I started working with you too. This isn't about what I saw.""You're right. It isn't. But I'd rather explain than have you drawing the wrong conclusions."She gave a small sigh. "You shouldn't care about what I think, because I really don't care. whatever happened between us is gone and there's no reason to visit old wounds."I was still going to explain regardless of what she had to say. "The woman you saw is someone I've known for a while. We met through mutual friends, and we've occasionally spent time t

  • Oops! My Ex-Wife Is Now My Boss   Off guard

Chapter 80Claire's POVI arrived at the office earlier than usual on Monday, hoping to get through some of the exhibition preparations before the rest of the team came in.The past few days had been uncomfortable, and I wasn't particularly looking forward to seeing Ryan. I had spent most of the weekend trying not to think about what I had witnessed in his office, but the image kept returning whenever I had nothing else to occupy my mind.I knew I had no right to be upset. Ryan and I weren't together, and whatever happened between him and another woman was none of my business. Still, seeing him kiss someone else had brought back memories I had spent a long time trying to put behind me.I had thought I was over everything that happened between us. Apparently, I had been wrong.I dropped my handbag beside my desk, switched on my computer and opened the exhibition schedule. The event was only a few weeks away, and there were several things I needed to finalise before the end of the week.

Chapter 79Julian's POVAdrian's call left me with more questions than answers.I had barely processed what he told me before he started lecturing me about my relationship with Eleanor and the consequences of getting involved with her. I didn't appreciate his tone, but I couldn't dismiss the information he had given me either.Someone had been sending her threatening messages. The thought bothered me more than I wanted to admit. I couldn't understand why Eleanor hadn't told me, especially when the messages concerned both of us. However, Adrian had made it clear that she wanted the matter kept from me, and I wasn't going to confront her about something she'd deliberately chosen not to share. Our last conversation hadn't ended well, and I wasn't interested in giving her another reason to avoid me. We had barely spoken since our argument about Lara, and I wasn't sure whether she was still angry with me or simply preferred to keep her distance.I really missed her and I wasn't going to li

Chapter 78Adrian's POVI couldn't get Eleanor's messages out of my head.I had tried to occupy myself with work after leaving the café, but my thoughts kept returning to the photographs and the threats that had followed them. Someone had taken the time to capture Eleanor and Julian together, send the pictures to people and make it clear that they intended to expose their relationship. The more I thought about it, the angrier I became.Stacy.Her name came to mind almost immediately.I couldn't think of anyone else who would have a reason to cause Eleanor this much trouble. Stacy had spent years creating problems between us, and I knew she wasn't above using other people's secrets against them. She had lied to me about Eleanor, manipulated my trust and played a significant part in the destruction of my marriage.I had never completely forgiven her for that. Now, someone was threatening Eleanor, and I couldn't shake the suspicion that Stacy was behind it.I picked up my phone and calle

Chapter 77Eleanor's POVThe past few days had been peaceful, and I was beginning to enjoy having a little room to breathe.Ever since Julian and I had spoken about finding the root of the problems surrounding my father's death and the recent acquisition of Caldwell shares, I hadn't done much else. I had put the investigation on hold, just as I had stopped asking questions about Lara's movements. I needed time to think, and perhaps Julian was right about one thing. I couldn't keep chasing every suspicion without knowing where it would lead.I also hated the fact that he was really angry at me and I'm sure that must have also triggered my emotions and made me stop looking into things too. Claire had also started her new job, which made me happy. She seemed excited about the opportunity, and I hoped her father would eventually recognise her efforts and give her the acknowledgement she wanted. She still hadn't told me the full story about what happened between her and Ryan, but I und
