Chapter 13 - Freya’s POV

Drew reeled back, spluttering. I could feel the air pressure drop as everyone in the cafe gasped. Someone laughed nervously.

Water dripped from his perfect hair down onto his furious face. His designer shirt was sticking to his chest.

It was wonderful.

His lip curled and for a moment I saw his wolf in his eyes. His voice was a low snarl.

“I don’t need you,” he said. “You need me. Nobody else will want to be your partner. You’re nothing without me!”

I met his glare without flinching. “Oh, don’t worry,” I said. “Michael has already said he’ll be my partner.”

The crowd of watching students gasped again.

My heart pounded with the lie, but I couldn’t let him win. He really thought I was his meek little puppet. That, after everything he’d put me through, all he had to do was crook his finger and I’d come running.

Drew barked out a laugh. “Yeah. Right. You’re bluffing. You barely even know Michael.”
