Chapter 14 - Freya’s POV

I could see the silver alloy glinting in the chains, smell it in the air. The bitter, biting scent of the only metal that could hold a werewolf.

“Michael, what have they done to you?” I murmured.

He didn’t reply, still curled up in a miserable ball on the cold concrete floor.

I took a cautious step forward.

That’s when he moved. His head snapped up and he lunged at me with otherworldly speed.

I screamed and retreated. He hit the end of his chain just inches away from me and fell back.

His power was coming off him in waves, raising the hair on the back of my neck and gooseflesh along my arms. I was shaking with adrenaline and tried not to whimper.

Then he crumpled to the ground, his body trembling with pain. Those silver chains must hurt like fire.

The mate bond pulsed in my chest and I could feel him. All his rage, pain, and confusion flooded into me like a storm surge, filling my eyes with tears.

I had to do something.
