Chapter 159

Author: Bodhi Blossom
It was a clear and sunny Monday, and it was hard to be grumpy when the weather was this perfect.

Natalie's car idled outside the building as she sat in the driver's seat, one hand on the steering wheel and the other holding her phone as she viewed today's hottest gossip. She was smiling the entire time.

About three minutes later, she stored her phone away and glanced at the woman in the passenger seat. "Ms. Cheney, you can go up now."

Rita nodded, then opened the car door and left.

Meanwhile, in one of the rooms in the hospital ward, Victor was nearing his wit's end.

He'd already had his hands full looking after Daphne and pulling strings to help Hugh's case. But Sienna just had to get into trouble, pick a fight with Natalie, and land herself in the hospital. Now, Victor had to look after her, too.

In just a few days, Victor had lost a considerable amount of weight. It was obvious he'd been run ragged.

Daphne hurried out of her room and into Sienna's to comfort the latter. "D

Bruce was none other than Goldcrest's general manager and the one who coordinated the Dejah Port shipment."This isn't something he can solve by just denying it. The weapons and ammunition are worth an enormous sum. There's no way Bruce was able to finance that alone," Natalie said.Benjamin sighed. "You're right. We all know that there's someone behind him, but as long as he refuses to give up that person, it'll be difficult to tie this to Jason. The car crash and the medical cover-up three years ago won't be enough for a death sentence."A person like Jason would never openly expose his own weaknesses to others—not unless he had leverage over that person."Does Bruce have any family?""I know what you're getting at. His parents passed away a long time ago, and his wife died during childbirth. The only family he has left is his daughter, who's studying overseas right now.""And where's she right now?""Missing," Benjamin answered grimly. So, that was it. That daughter was the

Natalie gave a small laugh. "Getting to see you all get what you deserve is already the best ending I could ask for."With that, she turned around to leave.Daphne stared at her, her glare as sharp as blades. Suddenly, she let out a guttural scream. "Natalie, go to hell!"Then, she pulled out a knife from who-knew-where and lunged for Natalie. Alarmed, Victor tried to stop her, but it was already too late. As Natalie spun around, she realized that the blade was already inches away from her. But in that split second, she felt a strong force shove her aside. In the next second, her head jerked up in shock to see Susan, who was the one who had shoved her. Daphne's knife was already embedded in Susan's shoulder. She quickly snapped back to her senses and immediately kicked Daphne aside before rushing over to hold Susan up. "Hold on. I'll take you to the hospital right now."Susan's face had already gone pale from the pain, but even so, she didn't forget to reassure Natalie. Forc

After all, Jason was someone who had been making his living in seedy Grendale for so long, with ties to both sides of the law. Keeping tabs on him was certainly not going to be an easy feat. Natalie furrowed her brows. "Alright, got it."The case involving the large seizure of weapons and ammo at the dock had far-reaching implications. To avoid widespread public panic, the case and its surrounding details were all kept under wraps. As the victim, Natalie also filed a report, and authorities reopened the investigation into the car crash and medical cover-up from three years ago.She then brought the two who had been involved to Grendale. They told the authorities everything they knew, and after verification, the police found their testimonies to be truthful. The evidence against Jason and Sienna was solid, and they were to be arrested. On the day Sienna was apprehended, Natalie was right outside her apartment building. It was only after Hugh signed the asset transfer agreement t

The sea was calm, with not a ripple in sight. A shipment was expected at the port today, and the receiving crew had arrived an hour earlier to wait for its arrival. Not long after, a massive cargo ship came into view. Accompanied by the growing rumble of its turbines, it slowly pulled into the dock.Shirtless workers went on board and off again, hauling the goods. The blazing sun scorched their skin, making it sting. They casually grabbed the towels draped around their necks and wiped the sweat off their faces, then they continued unloading. After much effort, several tons of goods were finally offloaded onto the dock. Just then, a few workers who were responsible for the daily operations of the port walked over. "Routine inspection. Open them up," one of them said. Cory Ventino, the man who was here to collect the cargo, frowned. What was going on? Hadn't they already taken care of all the personnel working there? Why was there a sudden routine inspection? Had something gon

Natalie set her fork down and walked over to stand behind Susan. She carefully studied the new artwork, and the fire in her chest burned even hotter. A faint smile played on her lips, but it was a cold and unfeeling one—the kind that foretold the chaos to come."It sounds foreboding, doesn't it?"That was exactly what Susan thought, but she stopped herself from saying it out loud. Frankly, the painting gave her chills.Natalie explained, "This is a gift for someone."That confused Susan even more. Natalie was going to give such an eerie painting as a gift? She turned to Natalie, a puzzled expression coloring her face.Natalie, however, didn't elaborate. She merely gave a soft smile and said to Susan, "The fruit is very sweet, and the cupcake is delicious."That made Susan snap out of her stupor. She was thrilled to hear Natalie's praise, and the smile on her face stretched from ear to ear. "I'm glad you like them. Oh, and why hasn't Shane been coming by lately? How about I ma

Regret suddenly filled Rowan. He shouldn't have said anything to her earlier. But he did have his own selfish reasons. He wanted Natalie to hate Jason more—even if just a little. Suddenly, Natalie felt his strong fingers press gently between her brows. She immediately turned to look at him. His touch was as cool as the rest of his body, and it carried that familiar, unique scent of sandalwood. And in those deep eyes of his, she could see a reflection of herself. That was when she heard him say, "Natalie, don't frown."He wanted to smooth her furrowed brows, and he didn't want to see her so worried about him. There was a burning intensity in his eyes, and underneath it hid emotions too complicated to read. "Jason isn't worth your anger, and I'm not worth your guilt. Don't forget—we're allies. I can't have you charging headfirst into battle all the time."Rowan withdrew his hand and straightened up. All traces of intimacy vanished in an instant. Natalie moved her lips, wanting
