Chapter 58

ผู้เขียน: Bodhi Blossom
Lately, Natalie had been living a pretty relaxed life. Out of all the interview requests she'd gotten, she'd only chosen one, setting it for three days later.

Once Sadie settled down, she checked in with Natalie to confirm she'd arrived safely. So far, everything was going exactly as planned.

Natalie stayed in her hotel, catching up on the latest financial news. Spencer Group's stock price had crashed in the wake of Sienna's scandal, wiping out hundreds of millions of dollars within days.

That was no small loss for the Spencers. Hugh would definitely pin all the blame on Sienna.

A moment later, Natalie's phone buzzed. She checked it and saw a message from the private investigator asking to meet at a nearby cafe.

Natalie got up from the couch, grabbed a simple white outfit from her suitcase, and changed quickly before heading out.

The cafe was only a ten-minute walk from the hotel. When she pushed the door open, she noticed a man in a black baseball cap sitting at a table in the b

Natalie couldn't understand why. She clearly couldn't move past what Susan had done all those years ago, and thus, she had thought that she didn't care for that mother of hers anymore. Yet, when Benjamin called to tell her that Daphne had brought people over to look for Susan, her heart had clenched so tightly it felt like it would stop beating right then and there. Natalie couldn't wait for Benjamin to pick her up, and so, they agreed to head over separately and rendezvous in Brin County. Natalie practically floored the gas pedal the whole way there, but she still felt like time was deliberately working against her. It was only approximately 60 miles away, so why did it feel like she would never reach it?Anxiety and frustration surged through her. She kept checking the remaining distance and stared at the number that was decreasing ever so slowly.…Brin County was located about 60 miles away from Grendale. Ever since Susan had been released from prison, she had been livin

Natalie froze for a second before answering in a low voice, "Let me think about it first, Ben.""Alright. Call me anytime after you've thought things through," Benjamin said.…When Natalie left the law firm, she headed back to the restaurant to get her car. She drove straight for the overpass and sped down it, lowering her convertible top and allowing the cold wind to whip against her face. That felt like the only thing that could calm her down at this point. After a long drive, by the time she returned to the city, night had already fallen.Natalie parked her car at the docks and stood on the pier, feeling the sea breeze against her skin. There wasn't a hint of an expression on her face. However, her face gradually turned paler. And as she hadn't fully recovered from her previous cold, it wasn't a surprise when she came down with a fever again that night, although it wasn't as serious as before.Natalie took some fever medication before soaking in the bathtub. She thought abo

Benjamin hemmed and hawed. When he finally got to the big bombshell, he looked up at Natalie. "The other sample… belonged to Hugh Spencer."Hugh Spencer?Natalie froze at hearing this unexpected piece of news. She was so still, it was as if someone had cast a spell on her.For about ten minutes, she said nothing, and even her breathing became shallow. Her delicate brows knitted tightly, and her eyes appeared as icy and as deep as a bottomless frozen lake—just one glance would be enough to send a chill down anyone's spine.Natalie continued staring blankly ahead. After a while, she picked up her coffee and took a big gulp, as if trying hard to hide the anxiety and unease coursing through her."And what were the results?"Benjamin pursed his lips. "Results show that he's your biological father."With that, her last sliver of hope shattered. Her hand holding the coffee cup jerked, and what little remained of her coffee spilled all over her.She should've seen it coming. Susan hadn

There was no hiding the loneliness in Jason's eyes. Sienna, still holding his arm, said softly, "It's only natural that Natalie hates me. I have nothing to say, no matter what she does to exact her revenge. I… owe her that much."Jason stared deeply at Sienna. His gaze was rational and clearheaded, completely different from how he looked at Natalie. After a while, he asked, "Do you really mean that?"Now that Jason was feeling guilty toward Natalie, Sienna—in order to get on his good side—naturally had to say what he wanted to hear. Sienna nodded. "That's what I truly think, Jason. I'm willing to do everything in my power to make it up to Natalie."Hearing this, Jason pulled his arm out of her grasp and said coldly, "Indeed. You do owe her."With that, he turned and walked off.Sienna clenched her jaw as her gaze turned ruthless. "Just you wait, Natalie," she hissed to herself.…Natalie had intended to go back to the hotel, but on the way, she received a call from Benja

Natalie frowned slightly, and she felt a faint grip on her wrist. She looked down, only to find Jason holding onto her wrist. Before he could say anything, she forcefully flung his hand off. She stared at him coldly, her eyes filled with disgust. "Don't touch me with those filthy hands of yours."Natalie's attitude toward him in these past few encounters made Jason realize a problem—earning her forgiveness wasn't going to be an easy thing. Though she had once loved him deeply, her heart had been thoroughly wounded. Not only that, but there was Xavier, who was lying in wait, waiting to pounce, and in Jason's eyes, he was the biggest threat. When he saw the distance in her eyes, Jason's gaze darkened. "Natalie, I'm not filthy. I've never touched Sienna. Really—you have to believe me."Natalie was utterly disgusted. How could he even manage to say those words with a straight face? Putting aside whether he had actually slept with Sienna or not, wasn't there also another Jane Yell

Though Jason was certain that he no longer loved Sienna, the connection they had forged by depending on each other in their youth still lingered, and this made him more patient with her. Thus, when Sienna intimately looped her arm through his like she used to, he didn't pull away and embarrass her. He merely grunted his agreement and started heading upstairs. As Seth watched the three of them leave, he joked, "Amanda, have you never thought about winning Mr. Pereira back?"Seth had known Natalie before she became famous, so he knew a bit about that part of her past. Natalie only shook her head as she gave a small smile, and not a sliver of lingering affection could be found in her cool expression. In order to please Jason, Sienna had ordered sharing platters according to his tastes. She sat right next to him, taking the chance to try to win him over. "Jason, I remember you love duck confit. Try this and tell me if you like it," she said as she took a serving and placed it on
