Bayne POV

“Has anyone heard from Ryker? He missed check-in this morning.” I asked

my brothers, Lynx and Syn.

“Nothing yet. I tried mind-linking but all is quiet.” Lynx responded.

“I left you to deal with that when he went AWOL last night.” Syn added.

“Well, I haven’t heard anything since he walked off with that female bearing a certain look in his eyes, like he had a purpose. He’s not here obviously, and I’ve never known him to spend a whole night with any female by choice. I have a bad feeling about this.” I concluded. The three of us sit around the plain living room, drinking coffee at 7:00am. I am working on the computer while they clean their weapons on the coffee table with the tv on in the background.

I attempted to trace Rykers’ phone again, but no luck. I’m the computer genius out of the four of us. We are brothers, but not by blood. Each once of us has a unique skill that benefits our team. Ryker is the Alpha or leader of our pack whereas I am the tech genius. I deal with anything and everything technical. Linx handles the public relations aspect and is the shoulder to cry on for the families after we have no choice but to give them bad news. I have always suspected he has some empathic abilities he tries to hide. Syn on the other hand is the opposite. Where he lacks empathy, he makes up for in weaponry and muscle. He tends to keep to himself most of the time, always quiet and watching everything. Syn is the one who notices things others usually don’t. He does not let anything ever distract him.

We grew up in multiple orphanages and foster homes mostly separated almost our whole lives back then. We can’t really remember a time before that, though if any of us did we don’t talk about it. Ryker is the oldest of us so he may remember more then any of us do. We have been close since our pack was wiped out and we ended up on the streets fending for ourselves at a very young age. We can’t really recall what life was like before, but it had to be better then instantly becoming rogue over night. The only reason we are not anymore is because Ryker took the mantle as our Alpha, the way it was meant to be, as soon as he hit the age of sixteen. Which is almost unheard of for a male to become alpha so young. Unless, of course the previous Alpha died and left a male heir. We didn’t have to live apart anymore, which we were all grateful for.

As we sit in our temporary home we share, I continue to brainstorm ideas of how to track our leader. There has been times over the years when other Alpha’s would occasionally try to take us over and force us to merge into their much larger pack. They tried to make us submit. But it’s in Ryker’s nature to protect us. His father must have been a true Alpha which would make Ryker one as well. We are all that is left to my knowledge. Now we follow him out of faith and loyalty. As it has always been the four of us, we are now well known as Orion’s Guild, or the OG for short. We are an elite team of Rogue Hunters, rogues of all types and species. We occasionally handle the worst of the worst.

Suddenly, the front door whips open with a very rough looking Ryker literally dragging his feet. It’s been quite some time since I’ve witnessed such a state, at least not from him, especially not being bathed in blood. The three of us jump up at the sudden unexpected intrusion, blades at the ready. After recognizing the intruder, we sheathed our blades to assess his damage.

Lynx inquires before I get the chance, “What the hell happened to you? You look like you have one foot in the grave.”

His hair in clear disarray. Not just bed head but maybe sex hair. Plenty of fingers went through that hair, whether from stress or otherwise. His plain black jeans and torn black t-shirt have definitely seen better days.

“Keep your F-ing voice down. I have the worst Hanover of my life.” Is all he says when he goes into the kitchen and pores himself a shot of bourbon. We all follow to investigate, so curious since this is so unheard of for him to even get a hangover at all.

He stands there, leaning against the bar counter with another shot at the ready and his eyes closed. After no response for a few minutes, I ask him, “ What happened last night, Brother?”

  • Orion’s Fate   Chapter Twelve

3rd Person POVIt’s now Wednesday and Mocha Munchies is now closed for the day. The three girl friends work at the shelter tonight. Lyric awaits impatiently for the text results from her appointment from the previous day. They needed about 24 hours for them to complete the tests. So long as she comes back clean, she’s in the clear. The night at the club will be behind her finally. She dealt with everything else, like if she even became pregnant and also dealt with the man himself. Telling him that that night is in the past now and we can move on separately, though she won’t admit it, she’s disappointed about it. She’s not sure why though since she knows nothing about the man, but the fact he’s intimidating, handsome, and seems like he requires submission. A part of Lyric wants to give that to him but another part would rather fight tooth and nail over it. She’s not sure what she was expecting anyway out of the encounter. Lyric as sure all he wanted was a one night stand with anyone wh

  • Orion’s Fate   Chapter Eleven

Lynx POVI have never been so at a loss for words before. I’m the talkative, always fill in the silence, type. I’m not shy, but I’ve never had a reason to be. Luka, my wolf, has been berating me since we got here. Basically, I should have laid my claim to her as soon as I laid eyes on her. He’s angry because he doesn’t understand why I haven’t. What a barbarian. He doesn’t understand I can’t just throw her over my shoulder and leave which is exactly what he wants me to do.When Bayne looked into Lyric’s social media and the three seemed as thick as thieves, he looked into theirs as well. Kinsey only ever seems to post life events or advertising for business for her meal on wheels vendor. It’s supposed to be a great place to eat and help the needy at the same time. The funds keep the shelter in business. Instead of just giving money to homeless people on the street, which a lot of people are uncomfortable doing since they don’t know if that money is going to feed an addiction instead

  • Orion’s Fate   Chapter 10:00am

Kinsey POVIt’s 10:00am now and I’m preparing the dishes for lunch for the hungry. Today I’m making homemade tomato basil soup with grilled cheese with a side salad and some pudding cups. I don’t have the help for breakfast or lunch like I do for dinner so everything is premade and wrapped. My guests know the drill by now. They help themselves to what they want and find their own seats. I don’t even need to be here for it. Luckily, its not as busy during the day as it usually is at night since most patrons are either at work or looking for work.“Good morning, pretty lady. And how are you this fine morning?” One of the patrons, Charles, came up to ask me.“Good morning,, Charles. I’m good today. How is your knee feeling? Did you make an appointment for the doctor yet?” I asked him. It’s the same small talk everyday. He’s had I t rough the past few years since his wife past away. He’s an older gentlemen with African American traits and silver hair. He’s always been nice if not sl

  • Orion’s Fate   Chapter Cloud Nine

Bayne POV I took the tray of coffees and muffins over to the table for us to enjoy while we talked about any ongoing theories and new suspicions. My wolf Knox is all over the place inside my head, spouting nonsense I can’t understand since he wont calm down. Ryker started us off. “What do we think?” “She hasn’t said anything incriminating. I haven’t scented a lie. Only disappointment in her boyfriend.” My wolf growls in my head at that. Then he says the one thing I least expected him to say as I take a quick glance over and smile toward her. “Mine.” I tune out to have an internal exchange with Knox. “What did you just say?”” “Mine.” He repeated. “Who?” “Mate. Standing right there.” “You gotta be F-ing kidding me.” “We must go talk to her.” “What? I cant. You do realize she is a suspect in a multiple missing persons case, and you want me to blow my cover to talk to her.” “She’s innocent. How dare you accuse our mate of such a thing.” Knox says, growling. “Fine, whatever. S

  • Orion’s Fate   Chapter Eight

3rd Person POV Paityn is happily working in her little cafe, Mocha Munchies. She felt she was exactly where she wanted to be in life. This was her dream, a dream come true. So why does she feel so empty? Paityn thought reaching her dreams would fill tha emptiness. She refuses to believe it’s because she just needed someone to share it with. Yes, she has Eric, but if Paityn is honest with herself, she’s only wit him so she doesn’t feel so lonely. Yes, she has lyric and Kinsey as well. Her sister and best friends. She loves them, but… yes, there was always a but. She wants to be loved on a level they are not capable of. They can’t satisfy her needs. Which, of course, Eric doesn’t either. She should just end it so she’s not leading him on. It’s not like it would be hard for him to move on. He had his eyes on the waitress practically the whole night we were at the club, to celebrate MY birthday. After I finish restocking from the morning rush, I helped out the few more late customers we

  • Orion’s Fate    Chapter Seven Minutes Until Interrogation

3rd person POV It’s only Tuesday morning and Lyric already can’t wait for the week to be over. The three friends, Lyric, Paityn, and Kinsey had fun the night before during their girls night. They put in a random movie and binged on popcorn and ice cream, though barely watched any of it, preferring to chat about life drama, careers, and of course, boys. During which time Kinsey and Paityn decided to pick on Lyric about her one night stand. Not long after, she bailed on preference for her quiet, warm and cozy bed. Safe to say it was not a dreamless sleep. All night long, Lyric was haunted by the most vivid of dreams containing the mystery man from the club. It seems even her subconscious can’t get him out of her head. She awoke too hot, covered in sweat, with the most sensitive skin. Even the blanket brushing against her was too much. Still not feeling back to her usual self on this extra warm Tuesday morning, Lyric popped two pain relievers and readied herself for work. Just becaus
