Chapter Six Acts To Action

Ryker POV

“First, we should separate them for the interview to check and see if any stories they may have, line up.” I started off with the preparations as soon as we arrived back at our humble abode. I waited patiently to see if anyone else had anything more to offer.

“This is going to be tricky. If they are human and are completely unaware of our kind, we could be risking exposure. If we were to separate them in, let’s say different rooms of the coffee shop, we will have to be very careful with our questions.” Bayne pointed out. I simply nod in agreement. Syn made a suggestion,

“We could catch each one when they are already separated at their places of employment.”

“Then we would have to do all the interviews at the same time so they don’t have a chance to contact one another afterwards to warn them.” Bayne stated.

“That seems to be the best option for this. Though, obviously I won’t be able to offer any questioning to Lyric.” I said ringing my hands through my hair, noticing I could use another buzz cut again.

“What questions are we going to ask once we have them?” Syn wondered aloud.

“We could make it seem flirty, as if we are just trying to get to know them.” Suggested Lynx.

“If we do it that way, they won’t tell us anything about being witches or anything about spells, like how they put a spell on Ryker. Or how to take it off. Which they probably wouldn’t anyway since it would be incriminating them. Or they are just human and know nothing about it anyway.” Bayne, ever the psychoanalyst.

“Well, what other option do we have then to just ask them? We can’t torture interrogate innocent human females if that’s what they are.” Lynx thought for a moment. “Syn and I could play good cop, bad cop.”

Bayne pursed his lips before saying,

“I’m afraid Lyric isn’t going to talk to any of us about your scandalous night together or how she put a spell on you, no matter what we do. She doesn’t even know us. At least you, Ryker, she recognizes. She may talk to you. It’s possible that’s the only least risky and most informative way to figure out what happened.” I sighed at this. Somehow I knew it was going to come to this. As much as we need answers, and I want to talk to her, it’s like talking is not what my body wants to do. Just thinking about it sends a shiver up my spine and goosebumps from thrilling excitement spread over my body.

“Well, if that’s the case, I can’t do it alone and what about the other girls?”

“I can hack all their phones for us to view any incriminating evidence they may send each other or I can block any communication between them.” Bayne and his wits saves the day again.

“All right. Watch out for anything they might say. Any clue at all, we can keep it as evidence for the mission. We can go tomorrow morning, together. Bayne, you will do the hacking while Syn, you keep an eye out on anything suspicious about her or otherwise. Lynx, try to keep me from making another mistake. We will have to do this one at a time. Maybe we’ll get lucky the first go around.” It seems this operation is starting to come together.

“Wait. Isn’t Lyric a teacher of a bunch of young kids in a school?” Lynx reminds us. “We can’t exactly walk in there, even during her lunch break. Everyone of those children will run screaming and crying in terror.”

“Right, of course.” Damn it. My mind really needs to get back to normal. That definitely should have occurred to me already. Shaking away some of the remaining fog in my head from the hangover, I reissue,

“Alright, then we meet outside the coffee shop, next to their apartment for Bayne to set up the labtop to hack their phones while we discuss how to approach her, after her sister leaves. Afterwards, we can swing by the coffee shop since it’s next door. Morning rush should be over by then.
