Chapter 7

作者: Tiny
The wedding venue was only separated from the site Adrian had booked by a single road, yet this was the lawn wedding I had always loved most.

All media were stopped at the entrance. The only people seated inside were my family and friends.

My father held my hand, tears streaming down his face. "I told you long ago that you deserve the very best, my dear daughter. That good-for-nothing from the Coles was blind. Look at what he put my precious girl through! If it weren't for you, I would have driven the Cole Group to total ruin!"

My mother passed away early. To make up for it, my father had given me almost everything.

If I had not insisted on marrying Adrian back then, the Warren Group probably would never have partnered with the Cole Group in the first place.

Now, Julian stood at the center of the ceremony hall, his eyes filled with nothing but me.

Holding my bouquet, I was just about to step onto the rose-lined aisle when someone suddenly grabbed my wrist.

  • Our Final Goodbye   Chapter 6

"Where's Iris? Did you upset her again?!"Adrian looked as if his soul had been ripped out of him. He lowered his head and murmured, "She's not marrying me."Zoe walked up to him carefully, forcing a smile. "It's okay, Mr. Cole. If the Warrens won't invest, there will always be someone else who will. Just like this wedding. There will be other women willing to marry you..."The expectation in her eyes did not escape Mr. Cole. He grabbed her by the hair and roared, "It's because of you that my daughter-in-law was driven away, you little vixen! I should have forced you out earlier!"Now that even the Warrens refuse to invest, who in all of Alderidge would be stupid enough to take this loss?!"Adrian, who had always been unable to bear seeing Zoe hurt and could never stand to see her cry, remained unmoved this time, staring blankly at the scene in front of him.At that very moment, he truly realized that he had lost Iris.Zoe screamed shrilly, "Mr. Cole! Ade, it hurts!"Adrian fro

The instant he heard the announcement, Adrian's expression swung between disbelief and fury. "Iris, are you serious?"I gave a small nod.Everyone present knew that Adrian and I had grown up together for more than twenty years, and that our two families' businesses were tightly intertwined. Every major media outlet had already drafted its coverage of the wedding of the century. No one expected me to call it off on the spot.Adrian stood at the center of the crowd, the regret in his eyes impossible to hide. The media surged forward."Miss Warren, what prompted you to make the decision to call off the engagement?""Was it the financial state of Cole Group, or the involvement of a third party?""Is Zoe Bennett the third party mentioned?"...The noise was overwhelming. Watching Adrian's face grow paler by the second, I quietly left him the last shred of dignity.Under the blinding flashes, my thoughts drifted back to that year.Adrian had attended a yacht gala with Zoe, who had

He was the one who knelt in front of my father and swore he would treat me well for the rest of his life. Only then did my father agree to invest.I let out a sigh and turned to leave. "Since you think this was leveraging favors for repayment, then let's call off the engagement."The moment the door closed, violent arguing erupted on the other side. The elevated roads of Alderidge were as congested as ever. I looked up at the giant screen displaying wedding photos of Adrian and me and felt nothing but irony.Three messages popped up on my phone."Iris, stop making trouble. I've already had the wedding dress cleaned and sent home. Tomorrow, you'll look beautiful wearing the wedding dress I made, and you'll marry me.""I'm calling in all the major media outlets to record this important moment of alliance between our two families.""Iris, I didn't break the promise I made when we were eighteen."Calmly, I pulled out the SIM card and tossed it out the car window. Along with it went

From the time I was eighteen, I had been waiting to marry Adrian.Even after making up my mind to call off the engagement, feelings like that could not be severed overnight.I was just about to speak when the front door was pushed open. Zoe burst in, crying. "Mr. Cole, Iris's wedding dress got stained during transport by accident… The wedding is tomorrow. What should we do?"Adrian could never stand seeing Zoe cry. He pulled her into his arms, full of concern. "Well, if it's dirty, then change it. It's nothing serious.""I happened to pick a simple one for Iris. I'm not sure if she'll like it."I looked at the wedding dress in her hands. The fabric was cheap, hanging loose and shapeless.I could not help mocking, "Is that a wedding dress, or clothes for mourning?"Leaning against Adrian's chest, Zoe's face slowly drained of color. "This is my fault. I shouldn't have decided to change the wedding dress on my own. Don't worry. Even if I scrub my fingers raw tonight, I'll wash the

"Don't think that investing ten billion buys my personal freedom."I clenched my phone tightly, tears spilling down despite my efforts to hold them back. The hotel I booked was right next to the company. The next morning, as soon as I stepped downstairs, I unexpectedly heard Adrian's voice."For the bridal bouquet, go with Phalaenopsis orchids. My wife likes them."My nose stung. I remembered when we were eighteen, when he planted an entire estate full of Phalaenopsis orchids to confess his love to me.For a moment, it felt as if I had forgotten everything that came before. I hurried toward him. Then I saw Zoe standing in the middle of the sea of flowers, holding the bouquet and spinning in place."Phalaenopsis orchids are too old-fashioned. Irises look much better. If I could walk down the aisle holding irises and marry you, I would have no regrets in this life."Adrian stared at her for a long time, then smiled gently. "Alright. We'll do what you want."My legs felt as heavy
