Chapter two

One week later, Sloan and I were closer than ever. We weren't dating but we were closer than some couples. We promised to always be there for each other and so far, we've been doing that just fine.

Daddy wanted me to go back home but I let him know that I couldn't because I was looking for a job. Back when I was in Montana, we usually depended on whatever daddy made from his bakery and it wasn't much so I wanted to get a good job so I could help him.

I lost my mom when I was very little and daddy never remarried since then because he spent all his time working. The least I could do was to make sure he lived a comfortable life.

After two weeks of searching with no luck, I told Sloan about it and he promised to help me. He called later that day that he already got me a job. He said his mother needed a new sales girl at her pizza shop, that I could work there for the meantime and when I find a new job, I could stop.

I was very excited because I was finally going to be able to send money home to my dad at the end of the month. The pay was nice and I didn't have to wake up early because it wasn't far from where I stayed.

That month went smoothly and the new month came with good news and surprises. I was walking to work with my headphones on, listening to my Ed sheeran playlist when Olivia called.

"Hey gurl, guess what?." Excitement was obvious in her voice.

"What?"

"I asked you to guess, you can't just ask what."

"Just tell me, you know I'm terrible at guessing."

"Fine I'll tell you. Ava and i...are engaged!." She squealed happily and it made me laugh. Ava had been her crush since we were freshmen in college. She tried everything she could to get Ava to notice her and when she finally did, Olivia felt like she was going to die.

They've been dating since then and hearing that they were engaged filled my heart with joy. "Congratulations Olive."

"Thanks. I gotta go now, I haven't told Naomi yet."

"Okay, I'll see you at home."

"Actually, no you won't. I'm spending the night at Ava's."

"Okay, see you tomorrow then."

"Yeah. Bye."

I hung up and hurried on to work so I wouldn't be late. When I got there, I saw Sloan with a Lady that looked like model. She looked elegant in her dress that stopped at her knee, her blonde hair tied up neatly in a bun. She sat cross legged across him and was laughing so hard that I wondered what could be so funny because he was laughing too.

I walked up to their table, pretending not to see Sloan. "What can I get you?" I asked and smiled before Sloan called my name. "Oh you're here, I didn't notice you." I lied and he seemed to notice because he smiled and said "Sure you didn't."

He introduced me to the blonde girl as his girlfriend and it made me blush a little. The blonde girl, Tracy turned out to be his cousin and that made me blush even more because I was jealous for no reason.

Sloan couldn't stay long because they needed him back at work. I asked about the work he was doing and he said he was an intern at northern view hospital. It was Impressive because that was the biggest hospital in las Vegas.

Two days later, after I had gotten back from work, Naomi rushed in shouting and going on about modeling. She talked about their pay, how much recognition they got and how it Improves their. She kept on talking like Ella reciting a prophecy from a book she read.

"What's wrong with you, are you drunk?"  I asked as she hugged me.

"No, I'm not drunk. I'm happy!".

"Mind telling me why you're happy?".

" I'm happy because I got a job." She held my hands screaming happily and I joined too. I was really happy for her, our celebration was cut short when I felt dizzy all of a sudden. I sat on the bed and placed my hands on my temples feeling like I was about to throw up.

"Are you okay?." Naomi asked as she came to sit beside me.

"Yeah, I'm fine."

"Are you sure?, that's the third time this month. Maybe you should see a doctor."

"I will, but maybe later."

"Okay, but make it fast."

"Yeah okay."

I sat at the coffee shop feeling a bit nervous about what Sloan wanted to say. He called me saying he wanted to talk about something serious and he sounded serious on the phone. He arrived five minutes later and sat in front of me.

"You're probably wondering what I wanted to talk about." He started without meeting my eyes.

"Yes, it sounds like it's something serious."

"Yeah it is. You know we're pretty close right?."

"Yeah?."

"I was thinking... Why don't we get closer?"

I looked at him, knitting my brows in confusion. "What are you talking about?."

"I'm asking you to be my girlfriend."

I blinked in surprise and smiled before answering. "Yes."

"Yes?"

"Yes, I'd love to be your girlfriend." He let out a relived sigh and came to hug me. "What are you doing?, we're in a public place."

"I was worried, I thought you'd say no."

"Why would you think that?"

"I don't know. I was just worried, thank you for saying yes."

A week passed and Sloan and I spent most of our time together. He couldn't see me often because of his work but whenever he was free, he came to see me.

He had a week's break and decided to spend it with me. We were going to Montana to see my dad and I was excited. When we got there, daddy was happy to see me and I was happy to see him too. I hugged him and all my worries seemed to fade away, we spent the day drinking and celebrating like we were having a party.

That night as I laid in bed thinking about how happy daddy was, I missed my mom. I would have been happier if she were here today. I took out a photo of her admired it. Looking at her again, we really looked alike, outsiders might think she was my sister.

Her chestnut brown hair, silky and long reaching her waist, just like mine. Her grey eyes, smart and her full red lips, just like mine. I didn't have much memory of her but I remembered her sweet smile and the song she always sang for me. I missed her and I know that daddy missed her too.

Sloan took my mind off her as he came to lie beside me. "Hey you." He said as he kissed me and I smiled. "I was wondering where you ran off to."

"Where's dad?."

"He went off to bed and we should too, its pretty late." He kissed me again before turning off the lights. "Good night babe."

"Good night."
