ETHAN'S POV

I finally drag myself through the front door of my apartment after what feels like an eternity.

My body aches, my head is pounding and every muscle in my back is screaming from hours of being hunched over a desk.

My father has been working me nonstop, piling on responsibilities I never asked for, keeping me away from home for days. He thinks the way to keep me in line is to drown me in work until I forget about everything else.

He's wrong.

I kick off my shoes in the hallway,

ISABELLA'S POV The penthouse is packed with guests I invited for dinner because I needed it after such a wonderful accomplishment. Warm golden light spills from the chandeliers casting a soft glow over the crowd of Miami's elite and the clink of champagne glasses mingles with laughter and the low hum of conversation. Everywhere I look people are smiling and drinking and fanning over me like I'm the queen of this city well at this point I am. I hold court on the velvet chaise near the window with a half-empty glass of champagne in my hand. The city sprawls below glittering and indifferent but up here all eyes are on me. "Can you believe it?" Valerie says. She's a socialite with too much Botox and too little sense but she's useful for spreading rumors. "Isabella Reyes and Damien Cross. The wedding of the decade. Everyone is talking about it." "Please" another woman chimes in. "They're calling you Miami's power couple. You're practically royalty now. You have everything—a rich

ETHAN'S POV I can't sit still. My leg bounces under the table and my eyes keep drifting to my phone. Nothing. Still nothing. Emily pushes her chair back with a harsh scrape against the floor. She stands up, her face pale, her hands shaking. "I'm leaving," she says. "I can't just sit here waiting. I need to do something." I stand up too. "Where are you going to go? Where will you start looking? We don't even know where to begin." She stops and stares at me. I can see the frustration in her eyes, the helplessness but she knows it's true so she sinks back down into her chair and presses her palms against her eyes. Her whole body was shaking. "We don't know anything," she whispers. "We don't know where she is or who took her or if she's even" "Don't." I cut her off. "Don't say it." I don't want to imagine that such could happen to her She drops her hands. "Then what do we do? What else can we do?" I couldn't meet her eyes cause I knew telling her r this would make me l

My father has been working me nonstop, piling on responsibilities I never asked for, keeping me away from home for days. He thinks the way to keep me in line is to drown me in work until I forget about everything else. He's wrong. I kick off my shoes in the hallway, loosen my tie, and drop my jacket on the nearest chair. The apartment is dark and cold. I don't bother turning on the lights I walk to the couch and collapse onto it and close my eyes for a moment I reach for the remote on the coffee table and turn on the TV. The screen flickers to life on a news channel. The anchor is speaking but I'm not really listening. I'm too tired. My eyes drift closed. Then I hear a name that makes my blood run cold. "Damien Cross." My eyes snap open. I sit up

DAMIEN'S POV The private jet touches down in Italy just as the sun begins to set, painting the sky in shades of orange and gold that feel wrong somehow. I don't deserve such beauty right now. I walk down the steps onto the tarmac and the air is warm and smells of olive trees and earth, older and quieter here the world moves at a slower pace than the chaos I left behind. Nina is waiting for me by a black car with her hands clasped in front of her. She looks older and smaller than I remember her silver hair pulled back but her eyes are still sharp as ever. She doesn't say anything just walks toward me and wraps her arms around me. I stiffen but she doesn't let go. "Damien" she says quietly. "You look terrible." I almost laugh. "I feel terrible." "Come." She pulls back and studies my face. "We'll talk inside." The drive to her estate is quiet and I stare out the window at the rolling hills, ancient stone walls, and vineyards, everything slower here, quieter the chaos of Miami i

DAMIEN'S POV I don't know how long I will stay on the floor. Hours may be longer. The penthouse is dark and silent except for the distant hum of the city outside. The shattered glass is still on the floor where I dropped it, the whiskey pooling around my shoes and soaking into the carpet When I finally stand up my legs are stuff from lying on the cold floor and my aches. My knuckles are raw and bleeding from hitting the wall earlier,I walk to the bar on unsteady legs and pour another glass. My hand shakes so badly I spill half of it across the counter, the whiskey burns going down and I welcome the pain because it's something real, something I can feel besides the crushing weight in my chest. Then I pace. Back and forth, back and forth, the penthouse feels like a cage with the walls closing in with every step, the ceiling pressing down on me until I can't breathe. I stop at the window and stare out at the city lights glittering below, indifferent and bright, as nothing has

LEAH'S POV They shoved me back into the room after what felt like hours in that other room where I learned that my screams don't matter. I stumble through the doorway and my knees buckle. But before I hit the ground mom is there, she catches me and lowers me down gently, cradling my head before it hits the ground. She's on her knees beside me, her hands everywhere, my face, my shoulders, my arms, my chest. "Oh my baby" she cries, her voice breaking "Oh my baby, look at me. Leah, look at me. What did they do to you? What did they do to my baby?" I try to look at her and tell her I'm okay, everything is fine but everything is blurry and everything hurts. Her fingers touch my split lip and they come away red. She sucks in a sharp breath. "No, no, no. Leah, please. Please open your eyes. Please stay with me." She was crying and I could hear it in her voice as she pulled me into her lap and held me against her chest rocking me back and forth like I'm a little child. She can undo
