(Author’s POV)

Kai pulled up outside the studio, his engine purring softly, and glanced at his watch.

He parked directly in front and stepped out, scanning the doorstep where his presence was always noticed, especially by Vivian’s team. Inside, he spotted Martha at the reception desk, busy on her phone but alert the instant she saw him.

“Martha,” he called politely, folding his arms as she approached.

“Oh—Mr. Reyes!” she said brightly. “You’re early. Miss Vivian’s almost done downstairs.”

“Good,” Kai said, giving her a small nod. “Thanks.”

He moved toward the stairs and leaned against the banister, waiting as Martha resumed typing.

Moments later, Vivian descended the second-floor landing—high heels clicking on the tile. Her eyes widened when she spotted him. She tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, smoothing her skirt.

“Hi,” she said softly.

Martha, unable to resist, chimed in. “Mr. Reyes has been waiting for you, Miss Vivian. A gentleman’s anticipation.”

Vivian shot her a warning lo

(Vivian’s POV)I sat in silence. The lamp beside the sofa cast a dim glow over the living room, soft enough to blur the edges of everything, including my own thoughts. The room was quiet now, save for the subtle sound of Kai’s breathing—uneven and raspy, with the fever still clinging to him like a ghost. My white dress had a faint smear of red where he’d clung to me earlier, and for some reason, I hadn’t bothered to change. It didn’t matter. I wasn’t here to stay.My eyes lingered on Kai’s face. His brows were furrowed in his sleep, lips parted as if murmuring something I couldn’t hear. His skin was flushed, too warm, too pale. He looked like someone who hadn’t reste

  • Owned By My Best Friend's Uncle   CHAPTER 118 - FALLING APART

(Vivian’s POV)The moment I stepped inside Bar Haven, I saw it.Him.Kai.His tall frame slouched in a chair like a broken statue, hand drenched in dried blood, eyes glassy and unfocused. His usual tailored shirt was half open, sweat clinging to his skin. The bar was eerily quiet—too quiet for a place like this. No customers, no music. Just silence, tension, and a room full of staff who looked too afraid to even breathe near him.Willem walked up to me in surprise, brows lifted. “You… came.”He clearly didn’t expect it. To be honest, I didn’t either. When he called, I said I didn’t care. I even meant it—at least I thought I did.“What happened?” I asked calmly, scanning the space before landing my eyes back on Kai.Willem exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck. “He got into a fight with a guest. Said something about the guy being too close or whatever. Glass shattered. He wouldn’t let anyone treat the wound, and now—” He looked at Kai, helpless. “I think he has a fever too. He wouldn’t

  • Owned By My Best Friend's Uncle   CHAPTER 117 - WHAT DO YOU WANT?

(Kai’s POV)I stood in front of the now-empty building—Vivian’s studio. The name sign was gone, and the windows were bare, like a heart stripped of its soul. A “For Sale” banner fluttered slightly in the breeze, mocking me with its silent message: She’s really gone.My jaw clenched.I pulled my phone out of my pocket and dialled a number. The call connected instantly.“Follow her,” I said coldly. “She left an hour ago. I want to know where she’s staying. Find out everything—where she lives, who she’s with, her daily routine.”“Yes, Sir,” came the immediate reply.“And find out if this building’s been bought. I want the name of the buyer.”“Yes, Mr. Reyes.”I hung up without another word.I didn’t move. I just stood there like a fool, staring at the place that used to be filled with her laughter, her stubborn voice, her scent. Everything about her had become a ghost I couldn’t shake off.I had no right to still want her.I told her I didn’t believe in love.I told her I couldn’t give h

(Vivian’s POV)The moment I sat inside the car, I closed my eyes and took a long breath—one that was meant to calm the storm inside me, but all it did was make me feel even more suffocated.Martha sat beside me, silent for a moment before asking gently, “Miss Vivian… are you okay?”I opened my eyes and looked at her. She was watching me with genuine concern, her brows furrowed, her lips pressed tightly. She had worked for me for so many years—loyal, professional, and more than that… someone I could trust.“I’m okay,” I said, even though my voice came out softer than I intended. Weak. I hated sounding like that.“Are you sure?” she asked again, her hands wringing on her lap. “You don’t have to pretend with me. I know seeing Mr. Reyes again… must’ve been—”“I said I’m okay,” I cut her off gently, not because I was mad, but because if she continued, I would fall apart.Martha nodded, then glanced at the documents in her lap before hesitantly speaking again. “Miss… I just want you to know

(Vivian’s POV)Six months later…“Miss Vivian, should I ask the staff to bring these documents as well?”I turned around and saw Martha walking toward me with a stack of documents in both hands. I approached her, checked the documents, and took them from her hands.“I’ll carry them,” I said. “Have all the items been moved?”“Yes. The movers left five minutes ago,” Martha informed me. “And also, Miss Vivian… There's a small issue. I mean, not exactly an issue. It’s just that…”“What is it? Just tell me.” I reached for my bag lying on the floor. I had already checked all the belongings and documents in my office, and everything had been packed into the truck and my car.The only thing left was to find someone willing to buy or lease the place. Since I had hired someone to help promote it, I was confident we’d find someone soon.At least now, I could finally breathe a little easier.“Well, it’s… um, how do I say this…”“What kind of problem is making you stutter like that? No need to be

  • Owned By My Best Friend's Uncle   CHAPTER 114 - SHE'S GONE

(Kai’s POV)“I’m going to get you some water,” she said, standing quickly. “I’ll be back.”Those were some of the last words I heard from Vivian—words I clung to, replayed, and tried to decode. She vanished after that, like smoke drifting through my fingers. She didn't visit me in the hospital the next day. She didn't return to the penthouse. Not a text, not a call. It was as if she had never existed. Now, it has been nearly a week. Not a whisper. Not a glimpse on my end of things. My phone sat silent. My doorbell was unmoved. I controlled the business, the bar, life, everything—but I could not control her absence.I sat at the bar late in the evening. The overhead lights were dim, and the usual hum of patrons felt distant. I nursed a whiskey that was more of a starch than relief. The seat across from me remained empty, like a void that demanded to be filled.Willem appeared a minute later, his gait unsteady in that way only someone close could appear after a few drinks. His expressio
